May 17, 2009I have a laptop with ATI mobility 2400, and ralink wireless, I have not very experience with linux, I have tried many live-cds, ubuntu, opensuse, gentoo, fedora and all crash if I don't boot with the aditional option "clocksource=jiffies", i'm thinking of trying fedora 11 x64 but my main concern is about my ATI mobility VGA, in windows i need to install modded driver as original catalyst are not compatible with my system.

May 28, 2011Title pretty much says it all. I was working fine this morning on f15. Did an update and am now getting the above message. Have no internet access from affected machine. Running "NetworkManager" or "systemctl enable NetworkManager.service" does not fix the issue. Anyone else get this today? I know there was a similar known bug during pre-release.

Jul 29, 2011After a recent update of fedora 15 (2 days ago) I lost my networkmanager icon in top panel completely. Then I check network manager version & found it's version 0.8.0.9997-5.git20110702. After this update I can't connect to internet by any means either via wired or wireless connection. When I try to open Network option from system settings it giving me an error: System network services are not compatible with this version.
I also try to open network-connection-editor by pressing Alt+F2 & typing:
nm-connection-editor
But it not works as well, I can't see any existing network connection there, moreover I can't even manually add any type of network connection there including mobile broadband! Then I do some googling from my windows machine & found this thread- [URL]. According to this thread I try to do downgrading of following 3 packages-

networkmanager
networkmanager-glib
networkmanager-gnome
But I can't downgrade via yumex as there's no internt connection in fedora. so i do a trick of myself. yumex suggests me to downgrade them to previous version 0.8.0.999-2.git20110509
so i manually download those 3 packages from my windows machine & copy them to /var/cache/yum/... folder. After that I do downgrading via yumex. But even after downgrading problem isn't solved. Same things happening still. No networkmanager icon in top panel & no internet
at present, there's no internet connection in my fedora 15 machine & I'm writing this post from my windows machine.
Moreover when I give this command in terminal:

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 - 8.04LTS And 10.04LTS Have A Pre-installed NIC Driver That Is Not Compatible With The Bcm5705?
May 7, 2010I attempted a distribution upgrade from 8.04LTS (32 bit) to 10.04LTS (32 bit). Once converted, I had no wireless or wired internet, along with numerous other bugs. After relentless hours of trying to resolve the problems, I converted back to 8.04LTS and installed the b43 drivers; I have wireless, however, still no wired connection. I've provided the outputs of the "sudo lshw -C network" terminal command below both before conversion to 10.04 and after reversion back to 8.04LTS. You'll notice that the NIC is not even listed after reversion (this is the same output that 10.04LTS gave me as well).
1.) Does anyone know if the terminal command will identify the NIC if the NIC Driver (assuming it's tg3) is not installed?
2.) Does 8.04LTS and 10.04LTS have a pre-installed NIC driver that is not compatible with the bcm5705?

Jun 4, 2010I'm having a weird problem with Lucid: whenever I boot my system, it seems to forget there's a graphics driver. The result is that windows don't have title bars, and anything involving fancy graphics is turned off.When I go to the "appearance" settings, I can go to "visual effects", select "normal", and the machine starts looking for a driver, which is found After that shading effects are once again on, but the windows still don't have title bars If I then start the Compiz settings manager, that window and any window that appears thereafter does have a title bar.That way my desktop configuration is pretty much how I want it. The problem is that after starting up again, all the wonkiness is back.

Ubuntu :: Lucid Will Not Boot After Changing Video Driver
Apr 28, 2010I'm running Lucid (all updates) with an ATI Radeon 3100 video ini a Toshiba Laptop.
I was troubleshooting a problem with XBMC, and tried disableing the propriatary ATI driver. Now ubuntu will not boot. I've tried recovery mode, and it gets to:

And nothing else. I've tried CTRL-ALT-F1 and BACKSPACE, and nothing happens. I know that I just need to re-enable to ATI driver, or possible reconfigure X, but I can't figure out how at this point.
Ubuntu :: 10.04 Lucid Nvidia Driver Second Screen In Standby?
May 1, 2010Plenty of people seem to be having issues with the nvidia graphics drivers, so I thought I'd add my woes to the heap. My issue is that I run two screens under twinview, but the second one doesn't work for some reason. More specifically, the Nvidia-settings tool is able to detect my second monitor, and I'm able to assign it a resolution and position and the like, and my desktop seems to extend over to where the second monitor is, but the monitor just remains in standby mode.
This happened with the drivers proprietary drivers that Nvidia tried to install (version 173 I believe) so I removed them and tried to install the 195 drivers manually, which I eventually figured out how to do (by blacklisting the nouveau module amongst other things). This still didn't fix things, and gave me the same issue.
(As an aside, where can I find the nvidia-glx-195 and nvidia-modaliases-195 packages, as they seem to have disappeared from the LP-PPA-nvidia-vdpau repository where they apparently used to be?)
The strange part though, is that my second screen works fine if I don't install any nvidia drivers, and just use the System->Preferences->Monitors applet. The second screen comes out of standby and works nicely.
One other little thing I've noticed that may have something to do with it, is that if I switch the outputs that the monitors are connected to, the other monitor will work. The output whose monitor doesn't work is always the one that has the DVI->VGA converter. Could this have something to do with it?

May 21, 2010I dont know if this issue has already been solved, or if there are other threads dealing with it, but Im quite desperate with this bug that has been annoying me since I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04.
Firs I thought it would be GEM related, but Im using a proprietary graphics card, so thats not the way to solve it. I experience the problems a memory leak provokes, mainly that, as time goes by with the laptop turned on, the system needs more resources to execute simple actions, and it freezes too many times. Plus IBUS will, suddenly, stop working (I still don't know if it is related or not), and, most of the times I log in, Notification Area 2.30.0 will load with errors.

Does someone know how to install a driver with 3D-support? Should I use a driver from[URL].. I had no problems at Karmic, because the driver was found at "Hardware Drivers". Lucid doesn't show me any driver there. Is there any correlation between the big intel-graphic issues and my 'problem'?

May 31, 2010I made the error of installing FGLRX on lucid. After the install, Plymouth resolution sucks and my laptop will not come out of suspend/hibernate. When I use jockey-gtk to disable FGLRX, it will not allow me to use compiz for 3d graphics. However, out of the box, I was able to run compiz no problem.How can I revert lucid back to factory form, where it was able to perform 3d acceleration without the use of FGLRX?

Jun 30, 2010Had mythbuntu/xbmc running for 4 months with vdpau and all the same hardware. I killed it with an update and thought it'd all be easier To build it the 2nd time -- wrong! Fresh install of mythbuntu lucid off cd, Asus p5g43t-m pro, nvidia gforce 9500 gt
What I tried so far...Different drivers with the hardware app thingee. Multiple times -- Purge nvidia, purge nouveau, blacklist list of other video stuff with extra line after, stop gnome, manual install various drivers - 195.xxxxx or Synaptic install various drivers. Tried updates, adding avenard and daily build repos. Everything in combinations. Outcome remains consistant. Lo res error start, can't load nvidia driver, selected but not in use, xorg.conf needs editing.
I'm getting the same error messages as the common nvidia help posts describe but the solutions aren't working for me.
4 days of this, 3 installs plus a shot at Mint, and no progress. I'm pretty frustrated. I'd consider returning to karmic if I didn't think the updates would pork the nvidia driver all over again.
Last install of 9.10 there was a required edit of vmalloc=256M and a shut off of cx18. That's been fixed in lucid? What else ccould it be?

Nov 15, 2010I have also posted this as a question in ubuntu launchpad but I figure I have more of a chance coming across a solution this way- as I had been struggling with no sound issue (and other issues for so long now!) I first had alsa driver version that came with this 2.6.32-25 preempt kernel: ALSA driver 1.0.22, I believe. My maudio soundcard was detected but I couldn't get sound so I found a suggestion in ubuntu forum to install lucid backports. This created 2.6.32-25 generic kernel which I didn't want since I need low latency (and still had no sound). I tried at first to compile and install Alsa driver 1.0.23 (following Ubuntu Sound Troubleshooting Guide), having booted into the preempt kernel- but ALSA driver 1.0.23 only installed into the generic backport kernel. So I proceeded to remove the 2.6.32-25 backport generic kernel via synaptic.
I once again only have my original preempt kernel 2.6.32.25 and 2.6.32.21 in my grub list. I discovered that I had no soundcard detected and no more ALSA installed, according to 'aplay -l' & 'cat /proc/asound/version' 'cat: /proc/asound/version: No such file or directory' so I proceeded to try to install Alsa driver 1.0.23 twice more but each time I get:

It didn't appear to work and I want to fully un-install all Nvidia drivers and do the 'official' (convoluted) Nvidia procedure of logging out of x etc: - [URL] The issue is; I tried to remove via Synaptic, but when I restart the system I get an error stating: - 'Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode. This is actually the error that kept appearing and made me want to remove everything. My question is: - Can I just go ahead and install the 'official' Nvidia driver, even though the 'startup' appears to be getting some kind of reference from somewhere? I understand that I'll have to remove the Nouveau driver as well some how. . .
