Is there anyway I can go back to the old grub where I can do things like removing and reordering my menu simply with 9.10 and Lucid when it comes out?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am interested in removing the gnome panels from my desktop in 10.04. I know i can auto-hide the top and bottom panels and there is also an option to delete them. When they auto-hide a small white line is still visible and i accidentally hover over them sometimes briefly showing them also. I also do not want to do anything permanent like deleting them.In some past forum posts i saw people saying go to System>Preferences>Sessions but this option seems to be missing in lucid and these seem to be for slightly older versions on ubuntu. I then added the gnome-session-properties command in the Edit Menu... of System but all it did was launch Startup Applications. One post i saw said to go into Sessions, required sessions and make it empty. Should this work like i want it too and if so, is there an option like this still in Lucid. I basically want to remove the panels completely from my desktop, but still want to be able to bring them back if i want too also (Hopefully without having to edit them again, but i can live with it if i do).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up my system(Ubuntu 10.04hat the main menu and its contents (application, places, system, etc) do not appear(or are hidden in such a way that the user cannot access it). This sounds counter-intuitive. I know. I tried deleting them by hand,but they reappear after every reboot. Is there a system file with preferences that I can edit or something else that can be done?

I have already done a lot but I need help in continuing my endeavour., I come here, having Googled my query and receiving no help, to ask you lot.The icons on the main menu (the one that only has the black Ubuntu logo; not the default three menu one) looks simply vulgar so I want to remove them. I was able to do so in the past but now it eludes me. I think having the icons for everything looks unprofessional and cluttered. Is there a way I can remove those nasty icons from the menu?So it is clear, I'm talking about the Swiss Army knife, cards, and etc on the main menu and all the other icons on the sub-menus.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I search using Places -> Search for Files..., there is an extra directory that shows up in the "Look in folder:" menu. This directory (jim) is unwanted and doesn't appear in the general Gnome menus (such as Places). The attached image of a screenshot shows what I mean.
I cannot figure out how to remove it in the search menu. Perhaps it was put there because I frequently search in that directory. Whatever the case, I'd like to get rid of it. I understand that this isn't the biggest computer problem ever posted in a forum. Nonetheless, I'd really like to hear how to remove that blasted directory.
Have recently installed 10.10 and have several other OS' installed, as well as other NTFS (non-OS) partitions. After a couple of updates, my boot menu shows about 8 entries, whereas I should only have about 4... How is this fixed in Grub2?

I was trying to install Sim City 4 Deluxe when somehow through my mounting an un-mounting of the two ISO's nautilus decided to make an entry in the places menu. I've searched through the forums and most of what I'm finding is how to remove things like the network and desktop items.
Here are three screenshots showing what I mean. Number one shows the entry I am talking about, specifically the SC4DELUXE1 entry. Number two shows that just right clicking and selecting remove like many threads suggest does not work here as it is grayed out. Lastly number three, this is the error I'm given when I left click the entry.
I finally figured out how to fix this. I simply went into the disk utility. Under peripheral devices the unwanted device was listed. Click the check file system button after selecting the device. It reports back that the file system is not clean and removes the device.
I'm using Fedora 12 with Gnome and I have a slight problem with my places menu. I have entries in the list that I would like to remove, but cannot figure out how. I multiboot Fedora with Windows 7 and windows 98. My Places menus looks something like this:

Home Folder
Desktop
Music .....
Now, if you notice there are 2 entries for both my 'Storage' and 'Windows 98' partitions. On of them will actually open up a window showing the contents of the partition, the other displays an error which basically says "Unable to mount, drive is already mounted". Right clicking on the entry has the same effect as left clicking, it just brings up the error message. They do not appear in the Bookmarks menu.
How do I remove old kernels from the Fedora grub menu? I have three currently and I want to keep only one old version to fall back if I have any problems with the current one. When I was using Ubuntu, I had Ubuntu Tweak which had an option to clean up old kernels from the grub menu .. is there something similar for Fedora?
I'm using Fedora 15 32-bit with Gnome 3.
I am using Fedora 15 Live CD and after I did Yum update there are 2 icons of google chrome showing in the applications menu and also there are few other icons I want to remove, is there a way to do that, I searched in system settings but there was nothing there?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a workstation with Fedora 13. This workstation is used for very long remote processes. Recently it has been shutdown accidentally by a user and has caused the loss of some of these processes. As such, for precautionary reasons, I have decided to remove these options from all our workstations so that only the super user can initiate reboots or shutdowns.
In previous versions I was able to do this by using gdmsetup and unchecking the Show Action Menu option. This also added the SystemMenu=false flag under [greeter] in the /etc/gdm/custom.conf file. This was under RedHat EL5. However in Fedora 13 neither of these methods work. Gdmsetup no longer exists and adding that flag to the custom.conf file does not work. I rebooted after editting the file and the shutdown option still appears at login.
I've been searching and searching, trying to find a way to remove the little arrow next to the gnome main menu icon.Found a way by editing gnome-panel/panel-menu-button.c <--- however I cannot locate this in Fedora 12... help me out here, this has been nagging me for quite some time now.

I installed Lucid server to a Dell R210. I configured grub during the install process and I see /boot/grub/grub.cfg is fully populated. However, when I boot my machine no grub menu appears. How do I get the grub menu to appear?

These worked fine in Karmic, but now when I select them, playback freezes on any menu, and I have to kill the front end process. Mythtv is set to use the internal player, but I have the same issue with VLC.
