OpenSUSE :: Change GNOME Menu Back To Classic View?
Nov 11, 2010I am wondering how you can change the view of the classic GNOME menu (Applications | Places | System) in 11.3 to the "classic" view (like in Fedora)? The Applications menu has to much sub-menus. I prefer it flat. The nautilus bookmarks are not directly accessible in Places either, which is not really comfortable.

May 2, 2011As Unity have too much serious regressions to be usable desktop (I'll list some so maybe somebody could get an idea what to change for Ocelot 1110 edition):desktop switcher is obnoxious for somebody who is used to having 8-12 virtual desktops and to see in system tray what desktop is taken and what desktop is free. I do not see Pidgin icon in system tray anymore. And I hate (not dislike, but hate) Empathy, so I do not want to hear "Install Empathy". Have empathy for users who just want their apps in system tray! Launcher is bugged. I added Synaptic to it, place in launcher was taken, but there was no icon until restart. I added dconf-editor, there was no icon for it also after restart. weather applet is no more part of date/time tray indicator, but you can install it separately. Yes, you can install it separately, but you can not add your location, and that applet is not smart enough to read your old settings of weather and 1-5 locations for time zones should I go further? In short, 1104 is stable but default login (Unity) is not functional. It is better than M$ Vista which was not stable, but I expected that Ubuntu would adhere to higher standards than one shitty commercial company which wants only money of users and therefore rushed non-functional software to market.
My question (finally): In Ubuntu classic items I added to right click menu using nautilus-actions are not there anymore. They are still present in Nautilus, but not in desktop right-click menu. I googled a bit and found zilch, so I ask here. Please share how to do it (scripts folder is still there, but that would be regression to be unable to edit right click menu, FFS Ubuntu is not proprietary software so we would be helpless and could not tweak our favorite OS how we like it).
Ubuntu :: 10.04 Blured Menu In Opera When Ambiance Style Is Active
May 9, 2010in latest Ubuntu version 10.04 LTS lucid lynx in default style Ambiance the bar is dark, menus background also is dark and fonts are white. Unfortunatelly in Opera which is Qt application menus background is also dark, but fonts are black so menu becomes extremely blured- you can see the effects on below print screen:

How to force Opera to use GTK style (white fonts etc.)? Settings in qt4-qtconfig don't make any changes (I use Opera built with Qt4).

Jun 21, 2011I had to finally give up Unity because my little netbook was running so slow. However, I loved the global menu because it freed some valuable screen space. In classic, I can't figure out how to get the close/max/min/title into the panel/global menu like it is default in Unity. Is there a way?

follow the instructions in the 'Install' document closely, i found after installing a different package manager called 'Yum Extender' which made things simpler for me, i installed the 'Gnome tweak tool', 'gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme'' and 'gnome-shell-extension-common'', but i also had to install the latest 'Murrine GTK2 engine' for the 'Zukitwo' theme to be recognised in the 'Gnome tweak tool', the location i chose to copy the Zukitwo folders to was.. /home/your username/.theme I'd like to now change just the style of the Fedora 15 login window(as in username/password popup box), but without changing my background wallpaper that being used, i have found a 'login' box style from a website below which i'd like to use.

May 6, 2010I just installed Kubuntu on my machine, but on returning to gde I still have the oxy-white pointer from kde. I went to preferences>appearance>themes>customize>pointer, and changed it back to DMZ White, yet the pointer still looks like oxy-white. I tried it with all of the different pointer options, but none of them will override oxy-white.

Jun 28, 2010Yesterday, my mouse cursor in KDE/Qt apps suddenly changed. I always had the 'classic' theme set in systemsettings, and that resulted in a standard pointy arrow cursor. Yesterday, however, as soon as i logged on I had a weird 'triangle with a circle cut out' cursor. In systemsettings, it says this is "KDE Classic Cursor", 'the default cursor for KDE2 and KDE3'. I personally find it rather horrid, so I changed it. However, When I exit X and log back in, the 'classic' cursor is back. No matter which alternative cursor I choose, it only lasts for that session, although the cursor I actually selected is shown highlichted in systemsettings... I have tried deleting my .kde to no avail.
The only change I made before this started happening was adding a line to my .xinitrc to enable a menu called 'yeahlauch' which is part of yeahwm (Although I use xmonad as a WM and no desktop environment, so these cursor troubles happen only in KDE/Qt apps). EDIT: I have tried commenting out the new line and the problem persists.
Slackware :: Classic Rookie Mistake (LILO)?
May 29, 2010I made this same mistake installing 13.0 several months ago and fixed it back then by trying different things,but I still don't understand why.So here's what I did this time to screw up with 13.1:-Partitioned the hard drive to have /boot partition at sda1 of type ext2 (root partition is at sda3)-manually configured LILO and chose to install bootloader to the MBR-went into that 'add linux' option in the LILO menu and pointed it to sda1When I try to boot slackware 13.1 I get a kernel panic. I'm sure the answer must be obvious but I don't find LILO very easy to understand. What did I do wrong and what should I do to fix this?

Jul 2, 2010I'm brand new to Linux and Ubunto 10.04.On the menu bar at the top of my desktop I seem to have attracted some kind of bug!The Log Out Symbol repeats itself across almost the entire menu bar and I cannot remove it. If I remove other buttons from the menu the space is immediately replaced by more Log Out Buttons.When I hover on the icon I get the message 'Log out of this session to log in as a different user' and when I right-cllick to click on 'Remove from Panel' or 'Move' nothing happens.It is not possible to right-click on another part of the menu bar to change the Menu Properties.
