Jul 6, 2011

Im looking for the force quit keyboard shortcut. Like XKill or what ever the force quit in Gnome panel is. Anything which will kill a misbehaving application which has locked up the mouse.

My Banshee Media Player just crashed, the window to force quit didn't appear, so I opened a terminal and typed "ps aux | grep banshee" to close it using the kill command. I got this output

Code:

As you can see in the 3082 line, the path says /usr/lib/banshee/Banshee.exe... I didn't knew I was backporting Wine to run banshee.

Ubuntu :: The Program "Force Quit" Is Frozen

Mar 11, 2011

I have added to my Panel the "Force Quit" program to click and use so I don't have to type it in on the rare occasions that I need it. I accidentally clicked it today not needing it. Not knowing this would be an issue, I clicked on it thinking it would force itself to quit and just close itself. I know I should have just hit esc to close it.

The problem I have now is that it is now frozen on my screen and for the life of me I cant figure out how to get rid of it. Yes I tried esc. I tried opening System Monitor and looking for it to end the prog and couldn't find it. I know I could fix this by just restarting the x server, but at the moment I happen to have several things open that I either cannot save right now or are actively running.

CentOS 5 :: Keybaord Not Working In X For One User?

Nov 10, 2009

I have about 30 regular user profiles on my system all of which are identical, except yesterday the keyboard stopped working for one when the user starts X both KDE and Gnome, seems like it dosen't even detect the keyboard as num/caps lock light is no longer on. It works on the command line just fine though. Was working fine Friday, no settings were changed at all over the weekend just stopped working come Monday morning.

Works for all the other users on the system. I've reset his profile from the /etc/skel directory still won't work. It's a network login through NIS so tried it on several machines (Centos5.3, Centos5.4, Fedora8, Fedora10, Fedora11 )throughout the building, no difference.Tried USB and PS2 keyboards, tried unpluggin it and pluggin back in during X see if it would detect it that way, tried running system-config-keyboard before logging in as this fixed a similar problem I've had before.Read similar stories where it was a setting in xorg.conf but i haven't tried these yet as the xorg.conf is machine specific (to my understanding) and the problem seems to be user specific.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Rhythmbox Won't Quit?

Jul 21, 2010

If i close rhythmbox using the close tab on the window it closes to a daemon on the application bar. This is both fine and handy but i have a problem in that even when i left-click the daemon and hit 'quit', Rythmbox closes and then appears again a few seconds later. The same happens if i 'killall Rrhythmbox' in the terminal.I can also see, in conky, that Rhythmbox is running as a process when it re-opens and i can effectively 'show Rythmbox from the daemon - so its not just a daemon problem. Can someone either tell me how to permanently quit a running instance of Rhythmbox or tell me what setting i have enabled that keeps Rhtymbox opening?

Ubuntu :: Can't Quit Motion In Terminal / Way To Do

Jul 26, 2011

I have installed this but it is command line and i don't know how to quit the thing. Motion is command line. It keeps capturing unless i shutdown the computer. Very frustrating. I also would like help to understand how to configure Motion if someone can fill in the information gaps on this website
http://www.chriswpage.com/2009/05/se...04-and-motion/
I have also tried zoneminder but it does not want to run for some reason. I have gone to the zoneminder forum and asked but i don't seem to get very far. They got me to download a zoneminder/ubuntu live cd. I used that but it wasn't seeing the camera. Whereas on the distro i have right now cheese, kamoso so see it.
I can live stream with Motion within firefox but i need the motion capturing part configured and without something that will quit Motion the app it's a bit useless. Would appreciate some advice as i have been struggling a long time trying to get this security thing happening

Courtesy of Peacedog I managed to get my usb wireless-n adapter to work in Ubuntu 10.04. Unfortunately, Windows managed to hose the hard drive while I was configuring it so I had reformat and reinstall both WinXP and U10. The USB wireless-n works perfectly under WinXP but nothing happen under U10. The icon in the Panel shows spinning arrows indicating there's a connection but I can't actually get out. Ubuntu Networking :: HP Dv7 Wireless Quit Working Spontaneously

Feb 17, 2010

I just did a fresh install of 9.10 about 4 or 5 days ago on my HP dv7 computer. I have a Broadcom 4322 wireless card. I had some initial trouble getting my wireless to work, but I was able to find and install the Broadcom STA wireless driver necessary for the wireless card to work, and since then it was rough skating, but at least it was skating, until about half an hour ago.

Everything was working fine until my battery died unexpectedly and the computer shut down. When I restarted it I was not able to reconnect to wireless, and although I have the Broadcom driver installed, it says "This driver activated but not currently in use." I have a touch panel to turn on my wireless which is supposed to turn blue when I touch it to signal that the wireless is on, but no matter how hard I try, the touch panel wireless button stays orange. It does not seem to be able to recognize that my wireless card exists.
