I have winfast tv200 expert tv-tuner. I am using TvTime to watch tv through it. verything is working fine except that sound continues to come even after i quit tvtime. is there any solution for it?
View 3 RepliesSound continues to drop out of flash in firefox. Reinstalling flash will bring it back, but it will drop out next browser session. All audio works in other applications. Skype, Last.fm, Rhythmbox, Amarok, Movie Player, etc. Even downloaded swf files will play sound. It's just in firefox, from what I can see so far. I don't know if Steve Jobs flying overhead in a black helicopter has anything to do with it, but perhaps.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with TVTIME's sound, its scratchy , the sound isn't clear. i can hear the sound & even understand, but there is a scratchy noise along with it,I didn't used to get it in ubuntu9.10 & 9.04,i don't have any issues with windows xp even,the tv tuner card is pinnacle PCTV version 5.

I switched to openSUSE 11.2 because the internet used to be slow on UBUNTU 9.10. INTERNET on openSUSE 11.2 is working like wonders for me as i use 3G internet from a NOKIA N73 MOBILE.ubuntu was was a touch slower on the internet side. i don't want to shift back to ubuntu ,UBUNTU 10.04 release is just 9 days away. FYI - xine,amarok,vlc,mplayer,smplayer all work fine without any issues,
I used to watch and record TV in Vista and Win7 with a SAA7134 capture card, and all worked fine. Using TVTime in Ubuntu 10.10 64bit (no upgrade but fresh install, everything up-to-date), I get picture but no sound. Instead I get this error message when running TVTime from the terminal: Can't open device /dev/mixer, mixer volume and mute unavailable.Using lspci in terminal lists the card as following:

I migrated back from Maverick because I couldn't get Tvtime to work because /dev/mixer is no longer created in 10.10 so no volume control from within tvtime. I'm now back to 10.04. The issue that I'm having is that I have 4 devices that show up as /dev/mixer, /dev/mixer1,/dev/mixer2 and /dev/mixer3. I need to have tvtime use the mixer associated with my soundblaster audigy card.
whenever I reboot, the order of these devices changes. Sometimes the soundblaster is assoaciated with /dev/mixer , sometimes it's /dev/mixer2 etc. Is there a way to ensure that the devices are always in the same place/order? On a related note, sometimes my usb webcam is video1 other times it's video0 , this also causes problems with tvtime. How can I ensure that my system is the same after each boot? I tried dev rules but couldn't get them to work properly.
When I run tvtime with the desktop effects enabled Xorg, compiz and tvtime use a lot of cpu. It's even worse with tvtime in full screen. This doesn't happen with the desktop effects off or when I use vlc for example. The system is a 3GHz P4 Prescott, 1.7GB Ram, Nvidia FX5500. I'm running 11.3 with the nvidia video driver (173.14.27).

I just amazed that ubuntu devs would just shut off this functionality that affects much more the just tvtime and not offer a viable alternative. Is there an alternative? I haven't been able to find after a week or so of googling.

The video unfreezes when I move the mouse, the video then fastforwards to the actual replay position. Video card is nvidia geforce fx5200 on proprietary driver, I have the desktop effects enabled. Any idea what this is about? I discovered the effects causing wine windows to break (no window contents, no foreground, no reaction on mouse) when changing the desktops or minimizing them. Seems like there are some bugs in the window manager / decorator...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get tvtime or any tv package to work with my Pinnacle PCTV HD usb but I have not had success. I have correctly installed every driver imaginable. So, here is what it what it comes down to: When I open tvtime it says "cannot open capture device /dev/video0" and the screen is blue. But my usb PCTV HD stick is NOT /dev/video0 so the question is how can I get tvtime to look for the usb tv tuner rather than video0?

After installing Ubuntu 10.04 LTS over the weekend I had some problems, which I subsequently solved and thought I'd mention here.
- First, the dreaded Low Graphics (EE)NOUVEAU(0):Error allocating scanout buffer:-12 which wouldn't allow me to change my monitor resolution.
- Second, TVTime television viewer would not launch at all.
Solution to BOTH of these problems:
From Synaptic uninstall xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (experimental) and reinstall xserver-xorg-video-nv.
Now everything works!
Tvtime built in volume control stopped working in maverick because it depends on kernel support of Open Sound System (oss) and ubuntu kernels are no longer compiled with this turned on.
You can get an experimental deb of tvtime for maverick here:[URL]
which will work with ALSA sound system.
Here is a partial solution I found on the Russian Ubuntu board by Alexandris if you cannot get the above deb to work for you:
tvtime configuration file at /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml will allow you to reassign the left and right arrow keys to control whole system volume level while tvtime is running.
Make the following changes in tvtime.xml:
1. comment out existing left and right keybindings by enclosingg them with '<!--', '-->' tags:

3. save changes to tvtime.xml and start tvtime in a terminal window and see if there is any error messages. The Russian Ubuntu board recommended using "amixer -c default" , but I had to change mine to "amixer -c 0" (the number of my sound card) to get things to work. You might have to do the same...
I have been using Tvtime for several years and never had trouble with the video until now. Now it opens, but it's frozen. There is no picture and no sound, just a black screen that I can't control in any way. Even to close it, I have to go through the terminal.I can still get channels using Mplayer, so the tuner should not be the problem. However, t is an Hauppauge 950.I was using Lucid on both partitions. Initially, one quit,but not the other. About a month later the other quit while I was watching which makes me think it may be something I have simply hit on the keyboard. I have since upgraded to Maverick on one and reinstalled Tvtime to no avail

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf i close rhythmbox using the close tab on the window it closes to a daemon on the application bar.This is both fine and handy but i have a problem in that even when i left-click the daemon and hit 'quit', Rythmbox closes and then appears again a few seconds later. The same happens if i 'killall Rrhythmbox' in the terminal.I can also see, in conky, that Rhythmbox is running as a process when it re-opens and i can effectively 'show Rythmbox from the daemon - so its not just a daemon problem.Can someone either tell me how to permanently quit a running instance of Rhythmbox or tell me what setting i have enabled that keeps Rhtymbox opening?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I play games and want to quit the system freezes and can't exit at any way. Sometimes even freezes while playing. Tried Urban Terror, Enemy Territory. 0 A.D. freezed while playing, but i was running it from terminal and in window mode so Alt+tab helped me out.

I switchted my windows friend over to kubuntu and I installed the kubuntu-restricted-extras as well as the ubuntu-restricted-extras and at first amarok was flawless. Now, every time I quit amarok and reopen it, my media library is still there but when I try and play anything it just stops and does nothing.
Then I go to my /.kde/share/apps/amarok directory and clear it and it works again if I open it and reimport the music, but this is a bitch to do every time. I briefly tried rhythmbox also and it seemed to be suffering from the same problem although I didn't try deleting the preferences and testing if it worked after, it also refused to work after quitting. Note: it might get corrupted on reboot only or on quitting
I have an app I've developed in Qt 5.3.1 that has display problems when using 3D accerelation in VirtualBox using Debian Cinnamon. It seems to happen with Cinnamon in any Linux distro I've tried. Once I boot into Debian Cinnamon, how can I stop my Cinnamon session (I think I must start with Ctrl+Alt+F1) , then get a straight X session to run my app without Cinnamon, with 3Dacceleration in VirtualBox?

Anyway, I'm on Debian 8.4 with MATE, only main repo enabled, all packages up-to-date. I turn on ibus (via a keyboard shortcut that runs "ibus-daemon -dx") when I need to type in Portuguese or Esperanto. When I'm done, I quit ibus either by right-clicking its tray icon and choosing "quit" or by using a keyboard shortcut to "killall ibus-daemon". Unfortunately, regardless of how I quit ibus, iceweasel and icedove crash every time ibus quits.
I tried running ibus with "ibus-daemon -d" instead of the above command. Now there are no crashes when I quit ibus BUT iceweasel and icedove ignore ibus altogether (i.e., I cannot type special characters--keyboard input is as if ibus were off).
How to start and stop ibus in a way that both a) causes it to work in all applications including iceweasel and icedove AND b) iceweasel and icedove don't crash when ibus quits?
My Banshee Media Player just crashed, the window to force quit didn't appear, so I opened a terminal and typed "ps aux | grep banshee" to close it using the kill command. I got this output

As you can see in the 3082 line, the path says /usr/lib/banshee/Banshee.exe... I didn't knew I was backporting Wine to run banshee.
So I have force quit and the little window is stuck. reads "click on a window to force the application to quit. To cancel press <ESC>" How the heck do I get rid of it? I tried xkill, it does not work.

Sometimes its in the middle of a video, I have no answer for whats causing this. I have the 64bit Square Flash installed at this time through the sevenmachines PPA.
