i am trying to write a script that switches the system to hibernation automatically at a particular time and again wakeup after some fixed amount of time. I found that at /etc/acpi there is a hibernate.sh but i cudn't find resume.sh .
View 3 RepliesFor the sake of security, I want the screen to be locked after the system is resumed from suspend or hibernation. Now the only way I can do this is to check the options "Lock screen when screen saver is active." in the screensaver preference. But this method is annoying since I have to type the password to quit the screensaver. Is there other way to do this? Thanks.
By the way, I use CentOS 5.2 x86_64.

I am using uswsusp / s2disk and it hibernates fine. Then, on resume, it apparently completes the resume (reaches 100%) but it never progresses to the actual resumed system and gets stuck on this screen: Before upgrading from 9.04 to 10.04 it worked fine. It does not anymore.

The splash screen loads up with "Resuming from /dev/sda6" (this is the correct partition) and the HDD light shows it's reading the drive. It then stops reading and the loading animation starts up (I'm running Lucid). Then nothing, just the animation. I recently updated initramfs-tools to 0.98ubuntu2~lucid as hibernation wouldn't work at all with the old version (see [URL]). I've also installed this script because of errors on hibernation.

Is there a way to put Linux in hibernation, then reboot and resume when it boots back?
This would be amazing in combination with dual booting.
My laptop beeps three times during the resume from hibernation. How can I disable this beeping. I use CentOS 5.3. Interestingly, this issue did not occur when I used CentOS 5.2 on the same laptop last year.

Interestingly when I boot from cold, the wireless connection is most times ready to go as soon as the boot has finished. So just wondering how I can make things quicker for resume from standby or hibernation
I am trying to figure out what is causing my system to go to sleep as soon as I wake it up.
- Every time I put my notebook to sleep by pressing (Fn+F1)...
- When I wake it up by hitting the power button or opening the lid,
- The system starts wakening, but then it just sleeps again.
- By this time I just hit the power button or open the lid again, and is ok then.

A few days ago, after I made some changes on my lucid system, hibernation is not possible any more, that is, if I choose hibernation, everything seems to go fine but at the next boot, the image is not read by the kernel and normal boot happens. I'm running Debian Sid amd64 on a Vostro 1320. Both hibernate and suspend works fine using the kernel hooks, but after the system resumes from hibernation, it starts to get really sluggish. Iceweasel hits 100% CPU use, and I have to close it and open it again to get it working, and generally the system is just must slower than before the hibernation. I have to reboot to get performance back, and even doing swapoff and swapon does not solve the problem.

Before then, I was mostly using hibernation instead of shutting off the laptop, to allow myself to get back faster to work the next day. Since my upgrade, though, it is impossible for me to resume from hibernation: after the normal boot sequence and the passphrase to decrypt my lvm partition, when it has loaded the information from RAM the screen just stays with a blinking "_" (underscore) in the top left corner.
I have hibernate and uswsusp packages installed. I also installed tuxonice-userui package to do some tests with the hibernate-ram and hibernate-disk commands. While using hibernate-disk (hibernate-ram didn't work, because "s2ram: unknown machine"), my system hibernates correctly, and I saw that during resume it was correctly loading everything from swap and then going back to the "underscore screen", confirming that the resume problem was happening after loading data from swap.
I tried booting using the recovery kernel in grub. For a time it worked, but today I didn't get the chance to make it work. The only solution was for me to boot my kernel by adding the "noresume" option to it, thus forcing it to restart.
I am having a problem reconnecting to the internet when I put my computer in suspend or hibernate. For some reason when I put my computer in any one of these modes it disconnects from the internet, and I have no way of getting back on the internet after that. I use to have the option of "Enable Networking" on my top panel, but it seems to have disappeared for some reason. Is there any way to stay permanately connected to the internet, even when it is in hibernate mode, or could someone tell me how to get the enable networking icon back?

Then when I turned it on OO wanted to recover the file and I hit no as I had just saved it. And then I just got a blank file on 0bytes back. What happened?
The computer turned of after a while, before I could check /tmp, so that isn't a possibility.
So is the file lost forever or is it something I can do to get it back? It's really important...
I am having a problem with suspend in F15. While the computer enters and resumes from suspend extremely fast (basically instantaneous), the whole system seems sluggish and unresponsive afterwards. The mouse cursor is lagging and some key strokes are omitted when typing. The animations in Gnome 3 are also very non-fluid compared to how they were before suspend. The only way I have found to return to normal operation is to reboot the computer. I have tried 32 and 64-bit versions of Fedora 15 with the problem existing in both. I also tried the latest version of openSuse (Gnome 2.32) just to see if this problem persisted and I can confirm that it did. Perhaps this indicates a kernel-related problem that should be reported as a bug somewhere else?

I recently upgraded to Lucid (x86_64) on an HP dv2 laptop, and after doing so, the system will not resume after a suspend (with fglrx installed from the "official" repositories). After reading a lot about the problem, I have seen that updating to the latest ATI driver had fixed this issue for some, so I would like to try that.
I am following the guide at at cchtml.
First, I tried installing the Ubuntu-X team's drivers. However, after (successfully) adding their repository, an update does not fetch their packages:

It looks like both the xorg-edgers and ubuntu-x-swat repositories are being ignored? (If I'm reading that correctly.) If I open the window System->Administration->Software Sources, I can see that the ubuntu-x-swat repository is checked, so I'm confused why it's being ignored.
If I try to demand the fglrx-installer package, I get an error that it cannot find this package.

Finally, if I try to build the official ATI v10.7 drivers myself, I get an error that Linux is an unrecognized architecture!

I really can't understand why I'm unable to build the package from ATI myself.
I have a desktop system (P55-USB3 + Core i7 + Ubuntu 10.10) that fails to suspend/resume from memory. So I'm trying to diagnose the problem. The first obstacle was easy enough --- when I put the system to sleep to memory, the computer comes back alive right away. A look at /var/log/kern.log revealed that one USB device (usb10) failed to suspend, and from there I was able to pin it down to the USB3 controller in the BIOS. Disabled that and this problem disappeared.
Now, I'm stuck with the second obstacle. The computer successfully goes into the suspend mode, but it hangs during resume. The monitor doesn't get any video signal, and it fails to respond to ping (netconsole doesn't work either.) After a forced reboot (that involves unplugging the power cable), /var/log/kern.log doesn't contain any interesting entries. All the pm_test modes from freezer to core succeed (I followed [URL] I've also tried pm_trace (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend) but again kern.log nor dmesg contains anything after the suspend. Either the write didn't survive the forced power off, or the resume is failing even before that. The motherboard doesn't have a serial port nor firewire, so getting kernel logs through them is not a possibility, either.
Lately I upraded my Debian using aptitude update/aptitude upgrade - including installing a new kernel (3.0). Since this upgrade I have strange problem with networking. When I suspend my computer and resume it, I do not have connectivity with network:

My computer have ATI X600 graphics card installed, and I installed CentOS5.3.
Every time I suspend my computer and then resume it, it seem the graphics card can't resume and the monitor says 'no signal', but the system still responses, I can use keyboard.

When I suspend the computer it is more or less idle. When waking up, the harddrive is maxed out with i/o activity. The drive led is more or less fully on. I am not able to log in to gnome. I can however switch to VT1 and log in there, although it takes ages.
top shows no process activity, but IO Wait is at about 87%. df -h reports several GB free. free -m shows there is over 2GB free RAM.
I installed iotop, which took about two hours. I have attached it's output as it's rather special. In short just about every app is reading as much as it can from disk, including iotop itself!
As seen in the log throughput is not very high, but the disk i/o still puts the system to a crawl.
I killed process after process until it suddenly stopped. Unfortunately I didn't pay attention to when, but the i/o hammering stopped when killing one of the following (incomplete process names):

because of a bug that changes the device of an USB-HDD from /dev/sdb to /dev/sdc after wakeup I need to re-mount my external usb-hdd on wakeup. As far I found out this could be done with an script in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d I placed a script there and made it executalbe, the contents are:

If I execute the script from shell the HDD gets mounted, when waking from sleep/standby the script writes "working" in the specified file but the hdd won't get mounted. As I plan using the HDD as a NAS it's important it gets mounted again because otherwise the samashares are invalid

Various chmod commands all result in Read-only file system. I tried umount then mount commands, but it couldn't find it to mount once I'd unmounted it using the same /media/ file path (I assume it's the only one).
I'm trying to install Debian Jessie beta2 on a UEFI laptop. The installation worked just fine before with setting in manual partitioning an EFI system partition and a root partition.But when I try to partition with root as an encrypted volume I get this error when I wanna write changes to disk:" the attempt to mount a file system with type vfat in scsi1 partition sda at /boot/efi failed"When I choose resume partitioning the installer then freezes at "detect file systems".

I am using a Toshiba Satellite M200. Sometimes after a wakeup ubuntu does not detect any wireless networks. This does not happen all the time only some times but, when I restart my computer the wireless networks are detected.

When I return and wake up the computer, I have a period of between 10-15 seconds before a password prompt is shown. I would expect the password prompt to come up before I am able to type and do any system commands.
