Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Network Not Detected After Wakeup?
May 15, 2010
I am using a Toshiba Satellite M200. Sometimes after a wakeup ubuntu does not detect any wireless networks. This does not happen all the time only some times but, when I restart my computer the wireless networks are detected.

I am using a Compaq presario laptop. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 (32 bit) within windows 7.Initially my WiFi was running fine in Ubuntu without me doing anything. Now suddenly Ubuntu has stopped showing any of the WiFi networks. I have not done any changes in Ubuntu. When i booted to my Win 7, it was able to detect the network. I uninstalled and reinstalled Ubuntu, with no avail. But Ubuntu is able to detect the wired network when connected. I am at a loss.

I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit version(dual OS) on my 64 bit Pentium core2 duo 2.2GHz processor. Everything seems to be working fine except it's not getting connected to wireless network, although it's detected the network .It was working fine(got connected to wireless network) when I had installed the same OS via virtual machine.

I have an nc8000 that gives a "104 unsupported wireless network device detected" error when I plug in my Intel wifi card that I acquired recently. Based on reading, this is a common HP problem due to non-native HP hardware. If I insert the Intel Pro card after the HP boot screen, 10.04 loads just fine and Ubuntu detects the card.

I have downloaded and installed Fedora 10.Now I am setting up the network and in the 'network configuration' it finds the wireless device (ralink) in the 'hardware' section of the configuration - I set this to eth0 (it originally set itself to wan0 and I still had the same problems, now it doesn't give me the option to put it back to wan0).Now I goto the devices tab and try to set up the device with eth0 - which it seems to find. But when I goto activate the device it tells me that eth0 cannot be found

I just did a fresh install of debian (amd64) on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520). My wireless network is not being detected, but I'm pretty sure that my wireless device IS being detected. During the installation, I got a message about some firmware .ucode file not being found. It asked me to put the file on a usb stick (which I got online), and I did that. It didn't complain after that, but I got the same message again later on, but again it didn't complain when I continued the installation.

I have a D-link dir-635 firmware v. 2.30eu (latest) and a USB WLAN adapter D-link DWA-140 802.11n. The driver seems to be installed correctly since lsusb lists it correctly and all the wireless networks in the vicinity are detected including mine. When I try to connect however NetworkManager says it is activating but after awhile the windows with the newtork password appers. dmesg output:
[ 5509.487262] wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:1c:f0:71:03:88 try 1
[ 5509.684014] wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:1c:f0:71:03:88 try 2
[ 5509.884020] wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:1c:f0:71:03:88 try 3
[ 5510.084014] wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:1c:f0:71:03:88 timed out
So it is able to determine the AP:s mac address but each time it times out.
I have tried disabling the security on the router but no luck.
Not sure what to try next. I have checked some of the tips supplied in these forums but none seem to handle the issue I am having.

I have freshly installed ubuntu 9.10 and moreover i am completely a newbie to Linux. The problem now i am facing is, i am not able to configure my wireless router. I tried finding drivers for it in System->administration->hardware drivers. But it showed me none. Then i checked out one of the threads in this forum and came across the 'lspci -nn' cmd. This gave me the info abt my wireless network controller and it was : 'Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01)'.

I have been having trouble getting my network card to access networks. I currently am using a wired connection. A while ago when I first installed Linux on this same computer, I got it working by installing the driver. But since I reinstalled Linux, I tried the process again with no success. Can anyone give me explicit instructions on installing the network card driver so I can use it on Linux.

I'm dual-booting Ubuntu 9.10 (upgraded from 9.04) and Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop.Ubuntu doesn't recognize any wireless network (both in 9.04 and 9.10); my Windows OS works perfectly well with wireless, as does my wired Internet connection with Ubuntu and Windows.I've had this problem on previous installations of Ubuntu (I've removed and re-installed it several times) but I can't locate the solution anywhere. I've tried numerous fixes that I've found online, but none of them have worked.System>Administration>Hardware Drivers tells me that the Broadcom STA Wireless driver is activated and currently in use

I have been using Ubuntu at my home laptop (Dell) have had no problem. However, recently I installed 11.04 in my office laptop - Lenovo B450, but 'm unable to connect thru wireless.
It is simply not detecting the wireless. I have a dual boot with Windows 7. Windows 7 detects wireless (surprisingly).
I have tried configuring the network connection in all possible way (manual / auto).

I know there are a million threads about this, but my problem tends to be slightly different. I've read the sticky on here, I've googled around for a few days now, I've re-installed new drivers, tried a lot of different things. A lot of people seem to be having the issue of being able to see wireless networks, but they can't connect. I'm not that far yet.
When I click on my connections area, near the top right of the screen, then I got to edit connections, under wireless there is no wlan0 or eth1, where as if I do the same for the wired network, it lists a eth0. For some reason my wireless is on eth1, but I can only see that though lshw -C network.
Sometimes my laptops wireless "Light" is on, and sometimes its not. When its on, it means the wireless is enabled. But even when it is on, unfortunately I still have the same issue. I'm on Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit. I'm using an Acer Aspire 7552G-5430, it has the BCM43225 Wireless card.
Here is my lshw -C network

Wireless not detected I'm on Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit. I am using an E machine laptop with a duel boot Win XP and Ubuntu. Both systems work great, the XP can go on line with a touch of the Fn and F2 keys but the Ubuntu mode will not.
I do not have a manual switch or button to activate the wireless. I dont want to mess up the windows XP Fn, F2 connection when I boot into XP. What should I do to connect Ubuntu to the Internet?
Are there other keys to activate wireless in Ubuntu or the wireless (addresses) routers in my area?
Is there a directory of key combinations that work with Ubuntu?
I used Ctrl, Alt and 6 rfkill list to find that.
Wireless Lan
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
I am using a Linksys Router.
I can connect Ubuntu with a wired connection but not wireless. My drivers are up to date.

I am running Karmic on a Compaq Presario V3000 and this morning my wireless card is not being detected by Ubuntu's NetworkManager. I have no idea what caused this... literally, it was working when I shutdown my laptop last night. When I right-click the NetworkManager icon in the panel it does not show "Enable Wireless" (only "Enable Networking"). When I run ifconfig in terminal it shows my wireless card as being there (UP Broadcast Multicast). One weird thing - on the front of the laptop there is an LED which lights up blue when the card is working (ie normally), but right now it is orange (ie, if you flick the switch on the front of the laptop to toggle the wifi on or off... I have toggled it back and forth but nothing changes!)

Btw, I tried entering the smb command that was given to the other member about 4 threads down as he had the same issue. Didn't work though.
