Fedora Networking :: Unable To Reconnect To The Internet When System Comes Out Of Hibernation

Aug 10, 2009

I am having a problem reconnecting to the internet when I put my computer in suspend or hibernate. For some reason when I put my computer in any one of these modes it disconnects from the internet, and I have no way of getting back on the internet after that. I use to have the option of "Enable Networking" on my top panel, but it seems to have disappeared for some reason. Is there any way to stay permanately connected to the internet, even when it is in hibernate mode, or could someone tell me how to get the enable networking icon back?

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Shuts Off And Cannot Reconnect?

Sep 21, 2010

I just started using Ubuntu at the advice of a friend. I am running it from a flash drive.I have a wired network that always works fine with Windows on this computer. After starting up Ubuntu it connected right up and I was able to use it. Then, out of the blue the machine shut off. Upon restart, I was unable to connect to the internet.I reinstalled Ubuntu to a different flash drive and it worked fine once again.I left the computer running while I went out for supper, returned and the computer was "asleep" and would not wake back up.I shut off the computer and restarted Ubuntu. No internet again. As always, it works fine in Windows. Also, BOTH times this has happened, the OS says I am connected to the internet, and I can turn the connection on and off, but it is not connected. This happens even if I reboot the computer. (I have a cable connection.)

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Reconnect To Internet After Disconnecting

Aug 16, 2011

Here is my problem:

I can reconnect to internet after disconnecting (this happens every 3-4 hours) only if I manually poke out and in ethernet cable to network adapter or reboot ubuntu. Even restarting network-manager not helps. My provider provides internet over pppoe. I have "DSL-connection 1" item in network managers gui menu. And that item disappears after disconnection.

pppd runs with following arguments: lcp-echo-failure 3 lcp-echo-interval 20 So where can I change this parameters, where is that configuration file?

Networking :: Unable To Reconnect To Wireless AP Using The Same Settings?

Mar 3, 2010

Sometimes I am unable to reconnect to my wireless AP using the same settings that worked the previous day, and that has me stumped. I think it's due to me switching access points (using different authenticatin) since the last connection.

1) After I enter iwconfig/iwpriv commands to connect my wireless usb card (edimax) to my WPA2 network, what process performs the negotiation with the AP, and is there a way to see status debug messages from that process so that I can see if there was a successful negotiation? (so I can see if the password is correct, etc).

2) Is there a way to manually invoke that process to re-attempt to negotiate? Or must I assume that happens automatically with any iwconfig/iwpriv command?

3) Is there a simple command that will erase all iwconfig/iwpriv settings so that I can start over with my iwconfig/iwpriv commands?

I am having trouble getting F9 to connect to the internet via Firefox. I can can get to the internet via ping ( both ip address and www.whatever.com) so it appears that DNS is working. But YUM is not working-error 110 connection timed out.I have disabled the firewall and SElinux.I had a similar problem when I was loading F10 and Scott pointed me at a fix that requires me to get the dnsmasq update but with yum not working I am at a standstill.

Fedora Networking :: Unable To Browse Internet Using F10

Feb 13, 2009

From today, I am unable browse internet using Fedora 10. Before this, I was using net in F10 with no problem, F10 was automatically configuring for net settings. But now I cannot connect to internet in F10, but I can connect to internet using windows xp. I have ADSL modem which automatically connects to internet when it is switched on. When I press any site name in Firefox it won't display any thing (in status it shows done).

And even following command not works.
Code:
ping www.google.com

But following command works fine ( I know yum search for software in repo using internet). I wonder how this commend works, while I cannot browse web.
Code:
yum search player

(I am completely dependent on linux). One more thing before occurrence of this problem I had installed xmms, xmms-mp2 and xmms-skins. I don't think this created problem.

OpenSUSE Network :: Reconnect A Pppoe Internet Connection?

Dec 31, 2010

I have a ppoe internet connection. I was easier and faster to configure it in Yast than in Windows XP. When
The provider here sometimes goes through some problems and the connection may disappear and return at any unexpected moment. In Windows there is a icon on system tray that dysplays such information and I know when the connection is gone. It also allows me to try to reconnect manually. Where do I find these information on Opensuse here do I manage to reconnect. In Windows it was also possible to set the connection to re-dial automatically when it was out. It was very useful if it failed in the middle of a download, the system reconnected and the download manager retried until download resumed. Is there some way to adjust opensuse to reconnect automatically when connection fails or some software that does it? Furthermore, is there a good download manager that works in Opensuse that pause, accelerates downloads and retries when connection fails?

Fedora Networking :: Completely Unable To Access The Internet?

Fedora 11 is completely unable to access the internet for some reason, and after some troubleshooting, I've determined the problem to my Motorola 2210 DSL modem. I know my connection is working fine, as it works perfectly in both Vista and 7. I've tried things such as grep 'Ethernet' /var/log/dmesg, filling in the information into the network settings manually, to no avail.

Debian Configuration :: Unable To Reconnect 3G Connection After New IP Was Given

Sep 28, 2015

I use Debian Jessie 8.2 and I am using a 3G connection using this modem => [URL] ....

The 3G connection works fine, except after 24 hours the connection drops and I cannot reconnect. If I reboot the computer, the connection will work again.

My guess is that my ISP gives me a new IP address after 24 hours and somehow my system cannot handle it.

How can I reconnect my 3G connection without rebooting?

I have already tried the following commands:

Code: Select allsudo service network-manager restart

Code: Select alldhclient -r eth0
dhclient eth0

Code: Select allsystemctl restart ModemManager

Results of journalctl and grepping my connection name (SFR)

Code: Select allsept. 22 17:58:19 ark1 NetworkManager[512]: <info> Policy set 'SFR Web / Prepaid 1' (eth0) as default for IPv4 routing and DNS.
sept. 23 18:17:07 ark1 NetworkManager[9446]: <info> new connection /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/SFR Web * Prepaid 1
sept. 23 18:17:08 ark1 NetworkManager[9446]: <info> Auto-activating connection 'SFR Web / Prepaid 1'.

[Code] ....

As you can see sept 22 at time 17:58 is when the computer started up. And roughly 24 hours after it failed to reconnect.

Also I should mention that there is a script to run the command:

Code: Select allsudo service network-manager restart

if the computer cannot ping a server, ie if the connection is lost.

More journalctl info when the system tries to reconnect:

Fedora Networking :: F13 - System Updater Can Access Internet - Firefox Can't

Aug 15, 2010

I am coming from Windows XP Pro, on the same machine (and where I am writing this post from) so the internet clearly works on XP. On F13, the eth0 connection is activated and the drivers for the NIC chip were installed with the OS. The NIC is Intel Pro/100 VE. The problem that occurs is that the system updater (in GNOME) can access the internet, and installed a bunch of updates after installing the OS. I know it can get to the internet because the updates worked and in the System Monitor, I can see both uploading and downloading occurring during the updates. Now the problem is that when I open FF, I can't seem to get to pages, and I get the usual FF error (pic -- [URL]). However, I CAN get to [URL] as well as [URL] , but I cannot access several other subdomains on fedoraproject.org . I also cannot get to any other page online, ([URL] for example).

Ubuntu :: Unable To Resume From Hibernation

Sep 8, 2010

I'm having trouble resuming from hibernation. The splash screen loads up with "Resuming from /dev/sda6" (this is the correct partition) and the HDD light shows it's reading the drive. It then stops reading and the loading animation starts up (I'm running Lucid). Then nothing, just the animation. I recently updated initramfs-tools to 0.98ubuntu2~lucid as hibernation wouldn't work at all with the old version (see [URL]). I've also installed this script because of errors on hibernation.

I've posted the output from recovery mode after hibernation below:

Ubuntu :: Unable To Use The Sleep/Hibernation Option Correctly With 10.04?

May 2, 2010

Have been using Ubuntu 9.10 since past 2 months and had similar power and screen saver options as I do now after upgrading to 10.04. ( "sleep" after 1 h, "lock screen" after 10 min, "hibernate" when "close lid" on a Dell 600m laptop)

With Karmic, Never had issues with closing the lid while the laptop was sleeping. Three times in a row noticed that if the lid is closed while laptop is in sleep mode, opening the lid results in a blank screen, HDD and CD drive spins, fan turns on. No response to keyboard and/or mouse. Pressing the power key: no response.

The only solution is to shut-down by holding the power key down for a few seconds and reboot. Cant imagine why there would be a problem, but wondering if there are others who also see the same thing and if there is fix to this. Right now, have disabled sleep and will see if problem shows up.

Iceweasel hits 100% CPU use, and I have to close it and open it again to get it working, and generally the system is just must slower than before the hibernation. I have to reboot to get performance back, and even doing swapoff and swapon does not solve the problem.

Fedora Networking :: FC10 - Unusual System-config - Unable To Ping Other Computers Or Routers

Jun 2, 2009

I recently built my second general-purpose server, and recently installed fedora core 10 on it. The first thing I attempted to set up after installation was the network - and that's where it's gone wrong When editing a network device using the graphical system-config-network utility, I find that the subnet mask is being automatically changed to match the default gateway address every time I attempt to modify any of its settings (or sometimes even when I cancel the changes). This also means that I cannot set the subnet mask, as it simply won't accept my setting for it. I seem to be able to get around this glitch by setting the subnet mask using the shell version of the same utility, but that doesn't solve my network issue.

Even when I use the shell utility to fix the subnet mask, I'm unable to ping other computers or routers on the network even when ifconfig indicates that the desired ip address has been taken, and other computers on the network are also unable to see the server. I'm using a wired connection and a static IP address on a network with no DHCP.

Debian :: System Never Resumes Hibernation After Upgrade Jessie -> Stretch

Sep 1, 2015

I recently upgraded my debian system from jessie to stretch. Before then, I was mostly using hibernation instead of shutting off the laptop, to allow myself to get back faster to work the next day. Since my upgrade, though, it is impossible for me to resume from hibernation: after the normal boot sequence and the passphrase to decrypt my lvm partition, when it has loaded the information from RAM the screen just stays with a blinking "_" (underscore) in the top left corner.

I have hibernate and uswsusp packages installed. I also installed tuxonice-userui package to do some tests with the hibernate-ram and hibernate-disk commands. While using hibernate-disk (hibernate-ram didn't work, because "s2ram: unknown machine"), my system hibernates correctly, and I saw that during resume it was correctly loading everything from swap and then going back to the "underscore screen", confirming that the resume problem was happening after loading data from swap.

I tried booting using the recovery kernel in grub. For a time it worked, but today I didn't get the chance to make it work. The only solution was for me to boot my kernel by adding the "noresume" option to it, thus forcing it to restart.
