I am having this odd problem since I did a clean install of Maverick. I installed Exaile music player but after that when I click on 'Home folder' (or any subfolder in it) under 'Places' menu Exaile pops up instead.I uninstalled exaile for a while and everything worked fine but reinstalling it caused the same problem again.

I was trying to view a dvd on ubuntu (which works on windows) so I downloaded a few progams from the synapatic manager and software center - nothing made the dvd work but now when I go to "places" and "home folder" movie player opens and has a error message window that is at least 10 deep that says "could not open location; you might not have permission to open file." I can't get to home folder at all!Did I totally ruin Ubuntu? Is this fixable? I rebooted and that didn't help
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I open the places menu, and click something such as my home folder, or any of my removable media it opens rhythmbox. It will not open those places in nautilus. This is quit frustrating. However if I type nautilus in terminal it will open and I can browse my files just find. Seems like a very strange issue.

We have tried uninstalling K3B and the system is ok. But when you install K3B the problem comes back.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and when ever i click my home folder VLC Media Player launches instead. I had the same problem but with Totem instead back a few Ubuntu versions ago.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSuddenly, my "Places --> Desktop" folder is identical to my "Places --> Home Folder". This happened by accident somehow, and the folders and files in my Home Folder "/home/rj" are displayed on my desktop, and I don't want them to be.
When I click on "Places --> Desktop" it's as if I've clicked on "Places --> Home Folder" (the "File Browser" directory opens, the location is set at "/home/rj", and the title at the top is "File Browser").
Elementary stuff for a lot of you, I'm sure, but I'm blanking on how the Desktop folder can be restored to what I'd like it to be (basically empty, except for a "Downloads" folder), and my folders and files kept off the actual desktop (except for the "Downloads" folder).
I have Suse 11.4 and GNOME 2.32.1 When I click on Computer -> Places -> Home then VLC Media Player opens instead of the window with my home folder that should actually pop up. The same thing happens with all other icons in the Places tab.

I can open Computer, partitions and devices, just not the first 7 folders which i think are bookmarks.

Ok, I eventually solved it. Appears I had inadvertently selected another program as default folder openenr. Just opening any folder with right click - open with - folder openenr reassigned nautilus and opens Places folders ok.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 x64. Suddenly I found that if I click on "Home folder" in the "Places" (top menu) then this folder is being opened in deadbeaf instead of nautilus. I wonder why. How to fix that?

This happens whether Opera is open already or has to be started from scratch. The link could be in KMail, Akregator or even a link on an applications About box, it makes no difference. View 7 Replies View RelatedI could use some input. I have just recently installed Squeeze and KDE4 as I had hoped that the kinks had been worked out. Anyway, here is the situation: If I click on a link in kmail or kopete (haven't tried other apps yet) the default web browser never opens. Okay, can deal with that but instead what happens is my screen is filled with notifications literally by the hundreds, that konqueror is being started. No window ever opens but the task-bar is then filled with tabs for konqueror. I could not get this to stop and had to kill X (as my settings are to save the state of running apps when logging off. Thus if I just log off over 100 instances of konqueror will be saved and restarted when I log back in). Some things that may be relevant: The box has a 2.3GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. According to mem there is only 12MB of free physical RAM when the system has been booted and logged into. Other things still work, other applications still start and close although be it slowly. Once X restarts and I log back in, if I manually run konqueror it starts but with an error message that a previous session has crashed and would I like to restore that session. I tell it no as I don't want the whole thing starting over. I can drag and drop links in to konqueror and things work as expected. Starting konqueror from a terminal works fine as does using the run box and any link directly to the program. I am not sure how to simulate me clicking on a link to have the program run from a terminal so I can look for error messages. I have tried to search the web for info but I have recieved absolutely ZERO useful hits in nearly 10 pages. If this is not due to my system running out of resources I am thinking it is a bug I need to report. However, at the moment, I have described to you all things the best I could and I doubt with out something more it won't do much good to report it as my other Squeeze installs on an 800MHz system with only 512MB of RAM don't have this problem even though they run slower than molasses in January left outside in Alaska.
In the mean time I have made it so the system messages don't keep filling my screen by disabling the pop-up notifications. This hasn't changed the fact that hundreds of instances of konqueror are trying to be opened though when I forget to first open konqueror and then drag a link into it. At the moment, this is a completely stock install using only the first DVD that is only a week old. Here is the DVD info: "Official Snapshot i386 DVD Binary-1 20100823-05:10"
I somehow managed to stuff up my Bookmarks in the Places Menu while using Totem Media Player: When trying to open locations from Places Menu, Totem opens instead of Nautilus.I'm running fedora 9.

I have about a dozen window managers installed, and just to test the new KDE 4.4 update I used kde for one day (use gnome mostly) and now the gnome places menu opens up the kde file manager dolphin instead of nautilus. I get E:Failed to mount the cdrom whether I put the disc in before or after I hit the Add-CD-Rom button. Synaptic gives same result.
