when I click on a volume under places menu I would like only to mount it without opening it on a new nautilus window. I searched on gconf-editor app > nautilus > preferences but I haven't found any option which seems to prevent this behavior.

For about a week or two when I try to open a folder from the menu "Places" of Gnome 2.32.0 (with Fedora 14 OS) the program Rythmbox starts instead. This happens even when I try to access a connected harddrive which requires entry of a code. After entering the code again Rythmbox opens! This doesn't happen only with "Computer", "Network" and "Connect to Server" of "Places". I can't think of anything that I did (apart from using Rythmbox quite often recently) that could have caused this, so I assume that it is a bug of Gnome. Have other people encountered this problem? (I assume that it is not Fedora specific, but rather a general problem of Gnome) If so,

I don't know what I did in the terminal trying to encrypt files but now when I click on something in places tab to open it using Nautilus, it does not, instead it open in a tab of Mozilla Firefox, I don't like it. I installed Exaile music player but after that when I click on 'Home folder' (or any subfolder in it) under 'Places' menu Exaile pops up instead.I uninstalled exaile for a while and everything worked fine but reinstalling it caused the same problem again.

The problem is the difference between the volume of the dialogs & that of the special effects (example: firing of a bullet ,a car crash, a lightning strike & similar). Is there a way to limit the volume to a certain level ? I tried volume normalization filter of both vlc & smplayer. But none seems effective.

I have the problem that when I want to open a folder in Places, mplayer opens and tells me that it cannot open that particular folder. View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Kubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. It was a fresh install of kubuntu, although I did leave a windows partition on there elsewhere. Grub messed up but I fixed that with a small text edit. Anyway, when I click on a file, i.e. Open Office writer or Calc, the computer thinks about it for like 60 seconds and then finally Open Office (version 3.2.0)finishes opening the file. It also does this while saving some files. It did not do this this version 9.10 which really amazes me. I have deleted OOo and reinstalled it several times and nothing helps. All other file handling seems normal, and it is a fast newer computer with a lot of memory.
View 13 Replies View RelatedWhen I open the places menu, and click something such as my home folder, or any of my removable media it opens rhythmbox. It will not open those places in nautilus. This is quit frustrating. However if I type nautilus in terminal it will open and I can browse my files just find. Seems like a very strange issue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFirefox 3.6.8 is freezing whenever I click a menu item. It locks up for about 25 seconds before continuing. It does this even in safe mode, or if all the addons and extentions are disabled. I have even tried deleting and creating a new profile. Chrome works fine. Also, on another login account, firefox is working fine!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running 11.04, and was running under Unity, and then moved back to Gnome 2.23.1. I am having a segfault occur any time I click on the window menu icon for any window. Once this occurs all the menu bars disappearing and I cannot move any of the windows, minimise/maximise, and while I am able to close most windows via their menu's it is really annoying! To get it back up I have to call gtk-window-decorator from the command line. This is how I found out it was a segfault.

I have two Xubuntu machines. On one I upgraded in place, no problem. But the other got messed up so I just installed Xubuntu 11.04 from scratch. I like the new Xubuntu, including changes they've made with this version, but...on the fresh install, the Places menu is missing (see attached).
Places is one really neat feature that my distro had the Windows doesn't; it makes/made life easier for me--I hate to see it just go away. Does anyone know how to bring it back? It doesn't seem to be available under Add New Items (to the panel).

View 5 Replies View RelatedSomething very strange has happened to my system (Lucid / Gnome / 64 bit): when I try to open a location from Gnome Menu, message pops up saying: "Can't open location [file:///...]. No program is registered to open this type of file." Or something in this vein, I'm translating the message from Polish. So I can't open locations via the main menu, but the bookmarks work fine in an open Nautilus window. It looks like the system doesn't know it should open a location with Nautilus... I looked through file associations in Ubuntu Tweak, but couldn't find anything corresponding to "file:///..." or anything resembling opening a location (I'm not exactly a Linux guru). Also, the folder shortcuts in Cairo-Dock don't work, the same goes for the FolderView screenlets. However, in the MainMenu screenlet, the location shortcuts do work. There has to be some obvious explanation of this anomaly, but I lack a deeper knowledge of the system to work it out. I can't say at which point it started exactly, I think it was around the time I started dragging extra shortcuts to the Cairo-Dock shortcuts applet, but that may be a coincidence.
