I have one install that I have managed to get anything that I cannot right click and choose what I would like to open it in to open in Movie Player (totem) and for the life of me cannot remember where setting is. Did this before but cannot seem to remember how I fixed it. Anything under Places drop down menu you cannot right click on and select to open so opens in movie player.

i have installed xampp 1.7.3 in ubuntu 9.10 and if i try to open the .php file in the browser it asks the me where to save the file and browser opens the source code rather than parsing the php file.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't access any of the sub-folders or files in my home folder on Ubuntu. I've checked the folder associations, that doesn't seem to be the issue. I've also opened the mimeapps.list file and the inode/directory association seems fine - inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;
I'm running Intrepid (8.10) (please don't ask me to upgrade! ) and the issue started after using Qtpfsgui 1.9.3 a couple of time to create HDR images. I guess Qtpfsgui broke an association somewhere, but where? I can access other folders, on Computer and Filesystem, but not on my home folder.
I've just switched to Xubuntu however 20 percent of boot ups firefox opens automatically.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI could use some input. I have just recently installed Squeeze and KDE4 as I had hoped that the kinks had been worked out. Anyway, here is the situation: If I click on a link in kmail or kopete (haven't tried other apps yet) the default web browser never opens. Okay, can deal with that but instead what happens is my screen is filled with notifications literally by the hundreds, that konqueror is being started. No window ever opens but the task-bar is then filled with tabs for konqueror. I could not get this to stop and had to kill X (as my settings are to save the state of running apps when logging off. Thus if I just log off over 100 instances of konqueror will be saved and restarted when I log back in). Some things that may be relevant: The box has a 2.3GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. According to mem there is only 12MB of free physical RAM when the system has been booted and logged into. Other things still work, other applications still start and close although be it slowly. Once X restarts and I log back in, if I manually run konqueror it starts but with an error message that a previous session has crashed and would I like to restore that session. I tell it no as I don't want the whole thing starting over. I can drag and drop links in to konqueror and things work as expected. Starting konqueror from a terminal works fine as does using the run box and any link directly to the program. I am not sure how to simulate me clicking on a link to have the program run from a terminal so I can look for error messages. I have tried to search the web for info but I have recieved absolutely ZERO useful hits in nearly 10 pages. If this is not due to my system running out of resources I am thinking it is a bug I need to report. However, at the moment, I have described to you all things the best I could and I doubt with out something more it won't do much good to report it as my other Squeeze installs on an 800MHz system with only 512MB of RAM don't have this problem even though they run slower than molasses in January left outside in Alaska.
In the mean time I have made it so the system messages don't keep filling my screen by disabling the pop-up notifications. This hasn't changed the fact that hundreds of instances of konqueror are trying to be opened though when I forget to first open konqueror and then drag a link into it. At the moment, this is a completely stock install using only the first DVD that is only a week old. Here is the DVD info: "Official Snapshot i386 DVD Binary-1 20100823-05:10"

When clicking on the Home Folder, K3B opens up. This also occurs on all icons under Places.
We have tried uninstalling K3B and the system is ok. But when you install K3B the problem comes back.
I am having this odd problem since I did a clean install of Maverick. I installed Exaile music player but after that when I click on 'Home folder' (or any subfolder in it) under 'Places' menu Exaile pops up instead.I uninstalled exaile for a while and everything worked fine but reinstalling it caused the same problem again.

i have VPS server and i installed Xserver on it and all ok i created new user for my client but i need to limit his access to the following
he can download and upload to his home file " browser by Firefox"
he can't install or use any application "just the one i installed it"
he can't see the file system or browser it !! if i can give him specific space on harddisk would be better
he can extract and compress files
he can't edit the settings ....
i have another sensitive folder and setting i don't want him to see it so how to limit his access?
I was trying to view a dvd on ubuntu (which works on windows) so I downloaded a few progams from the synapatic manager and software center - nothing made the dvd work but now when I go to "places" and "home folder" movie player opens and has a error message window that is at least 10 deep that says "could not open location; you might not have permission to open file." I can't get to home folder at all!Did I totally ruin Ubuntu? Is this fixable? I rebooted and that didn't help

I would like to control that Totem using my laptop (connected to the same router over wifi). How would I go about doing that? I connected to my desktop using SSH and tried to send signals to Totem, but nothing worked. I tried using VNC, and that was ineffective as well.

In theory, would it be possible to open an ssh connection that reads and writes to a file, and then make a cgi script that writes commands to the file and formats the output to html?
I create a link to a file in order to open the file from the desktop. When I move the link from the file location to the desktop, the file is opended in read-only mode. How can I change this so that the file opens in regular mode so that I am able to edit contents? The file in question is an open office spreadsheet.

The problem is if i double click a file on the network shared folder, (ie. a .doc file) its opened by file-roller and not Openoffice writer. i've tried changing open with in properties to ooo writer but it still opens with file roller. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Sendmail 8.13.8 on a CentOS 5.5 vServer (Virtuozzo). I'm using a loop in PHP to send a lot of HTML-mails via sendmail. Each mail is a mail with individual statistics for our users, so its not mass mailing, bcc is not an option. It all works fine, but when I take a closer look there is a problem heading our way with a high number of mails: For each mail sendmail opens up 43 files. Sometimes these open files get closed again very fast, sometimes not.
Here is an example using the PHP-script below, it sends 20 mails in a loop:

This is the worst case. The number of open files (lsof | wc -l) used to send the 20 mails is 860 => 43 open files per mail. Sometimes the files are closed very fast, so I get results like this, too:

This shows 129 (3 * 43) open files, so the open files for 17 send mails are already closed, for 3 mails the 129 files are still open. In the worst case and with lots of mails our server crashes, the numfile limit of 8192 in user_beancounters is reached (our ISP won't give us more than 8192). Sendmail DeliveryMode is background. Could it be that sendmail tries to send lots ob mails asynchronously and uses 43 open files for each?
I'm only depending on sendmail to deliver the mails, normally I wouldn't dare to touch the sendmail config (like 'if you don't know what you're doing, don't!'). It is not a problem of PHP. I verified this by sending mails via SMTP localhost to sendmail (opened 43 files per mail) and sending mails via SMTP to an ISP-relay (did not open any files per mail). This is the code for test-mail.php:

Totem by default shows some sort of tags (if found) and not file names in the playlist. I don't like this, because I use Totem for video only and videos I get from the web usualy contains URLs and other such nonsense in the tags so I never know which file is which.
Can I somehow force Totem to always display file names?
While trying to run avi file using totem, I get error. As I tried to "search" as used by totem, I get:

Unfortunately, the PC I'm using doesn't have internet connection so I'm looking for another approach. I couldn't find any rpm that would work for CentOS 5.5 I could copy the my Linux system?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to watch a video file on a Centos 5.6 Linux. The file does not open. It says "Totem could not play 'file:///root/Desktop/LinuxCBT/Disk1/video01/video01.wmv'. A Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) demuxer plugin is required to play this stream, but not installed." I thought maybe Totem is not capable to play this so i went ahead and installed mplayer on the system (yum install mplayer mplayer-skins mplayer-fonts. I also downloaded this all-20110131.tar.bz2 from this site [URL]. I created a folder called codecs in /usr/local/lib/codecs. I uncompressed the content of all-20110131.tar.bz2 and put them in the codecs folder. I went to folder /usr/local/lib/codecs and did chmod 755 *. I can now hear the sound but no video. when I write gmplayer -ov x11 at the terminal command prompt the mplayer opens, when I open the video file, I can hear the sound but no video. Basically my question is how can I see a video file on Linux? Have I missed something? Did I download wrong files? If I revert and try to open this with Totem, where do I get the necessary plugins for Totem?
