I could use some input. I have just recently installed Squeeze and KDE4 as I had hoped that the kinks had been worked out. Anyway, here is the situation: If I click on a link in kmail or kopete (haven't tried other apps yet) the default web browser never opens. Okay, can deal with that but instead what happens is my screen is filled with notifications literally by the hundreds, that konqueror is being started. No window ever opens but the task-bar is then filled with tabs for konqueror. I could not get this to stop and had to kill X (as my settings are to save the state of running apps when logging off. Thus if I just log off over 100 instances of konqueror will be saved and restarted when I log back in). Some things that may be relevant: The box has a 2.3GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. According to mem there is only 12MB of free physical RAM when the system has been booted and logged into. Other things still work, other applications still start and close although be it slowly. Once X restarts and I log back in, if I manually run konqueror it starts but with an error message that a previous session has crashed and would I like to restore that session. I tell it no as I don't want the whole thing starting over. I can drag and drop links in to konqueror and things work as expected. Starting konqueror from a terminal works fine as does using the run box and any link directly to the program. I am not sure how to simulate me clicking on a link to have the program run from a terminal so I can look for error messages. I have tried to search the web for info but I have recieved absolutely ZERO useful hits in nearly 10 pages. If this is not due to my system running out of resources I am thinking it is a bug I need to report. However, at the moment, I have described to you all things the best I could and I doubt with out something more it won't do much good to report it as my other Squeeze installs on an 800MHz system with only 512MB of RAM don't have this problem even though they run slower than molasses in January left outside in Alaska.
In the mean time I have made it so the system messages don't keep filling my screen by disabling the pop-up notifications. This hasn't changed the fact that hundreds of instances of konqueror are trying to be opened though when I forget to first open konqueror and then drag a link into it. At the moment, this is a completely stock install using only the first DVD that is only a week old. Here is the DVD info: "Official Snapshot i386 DVD Binary-1 20100823-05:10"
Since I upgraded to Firefox 3.6.8, when I click on a link in Thunderbird 3.1.1, nothing happens!! Right-clicking on a link and selecting "Open Link in Browser" does not work either. Any idea what might be the cause of this annoying problem?

This happens whether Opera is open already or has to be started from scratch. The link could be in KMail, Akregator or even a link on an applications About box, it makes no difference. I have set Opera up as the default web browser and I am using the following command "opera %u"

I installed Exaile music player but after that when I click on 'Home folder' (or any subfolder in it) under 'Places' menu Exaile pops up instead.I uninstalled exaile for a while and everything worked fine but reinstalling it caused the same problem again.

This is quit frustrating. However if I type nautilus in terminal it will open and I can browse my files just find. Seems like a very strange issue.

- the first of them is the router (firewall, htb, squid, etc.)
- the second have installed apache2
- the third sql
- and the last one is LTSP server for 40 client.
When the ThinClient connect to the LTSP server ewerything works good, but i can't see all of them on squid access log. Isee one ip address (LTSP server), but i want to see 40 ip adrresses. The same situation is in htb. It's doesn't work on the thin client. Is there any way to get this work that how i want ?
I have one install that I have managed to get anything that I cannot right click and choose what I would like to open it in to open in Movie Player (totem) and for the life of me cannot remember where setting is. Did this before but cannot seem to remember how I fixed it. Anything under Places drop down menu you cannot right click on and select to open so opens in movie player.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently set up a Debian-based gateway+router on a remote site. I've installed OpenVPN and made a VPN bridge to another network (that server is also Debian). The main network has all the resources and also a VoIP server (asterisk). Bridge seems to work fine, except that every time a Linksys phone is used to call - after a few seconds I get:

So whenever the phone is used, network falls down for a few seconds. And of course this breaks the call. There is also another Linksys box (analog-to-voip) and it works fine most of the time. However sometimes this "eth0 link down" happens too. There is nothing more in syslog to analyze, so I don't know where to dig. Physical device of eth0 is D-link DFE520.
i have installed xampp 1.7.3 in ubuntu 9.10 and if i try to open the .php file in the browser it asks the me where to save the file and browser opens the source code rather than parsing the php file.

The issue:In Kde 4.4.5, using xorg and radeon opensource driver, i can't set OpenGL for desktop effects. Clicking "Apply" it fails. OpenGL seems corrupted someway. I have to stay on XRender. This is the glxinfo output:

The story:i was running previously kde with nvidia propertary driver and a nvidia board. Then i removed the board for a fault and put a sapphire radeon HD5450. Initially i set up propertary radeon fglrx. At the end, i decided to use the opensource drivers, removed in the best way all fglrx files and links. So i then followed the wiki for reinstall open source radeon drivers, did it many times, also reinstalling xorg with purge, same for libgl1-mesa-xxx etc, but i still cannot use the OpenGL hardware support (should be DRI, that is correctly installed but not loaded).
Seems to be really an opengl corruption, if i disable the check on apply, and select OpenGL rendering, i get a complete blank screen.

Just made a strange discovery, visiting the website: [URL] .... with iceweasel within university's network makes my computer almost unusable. htop's output indicates:

What this meant to be and/or how this could be circumnavigated?
I've just installed Debian Squeeze from a live CD. When I open a web browser (be it iceweasel or epiphany) and try to go to google.com, it tells me it can't resolve the host name. [Edit: They do, however, allow me to go anywhere on debian.org, minus the search feature] I also get the same error when I try to go to my website running on a local server. However, when I type the server's IP address (192.168.0.10), it goes to the website fine. Basically, any program I run that needs to resolve a host name returns an error, with the exception of the host command:
I've tried changing my DNS server IP from 192.168.0.1 (my router, configured to provide DNS) to 192.168.1.254 (my internet modem, also configured to provide DNS). That didn't help any. Then I changed my DNS server IP to the same one used by the modem, and now everything works.
I've tried googling my way out of the issue, and I've found where someone had the same issue as I've got and fixed it by adding "blacklist ipv6" to their /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file, but that didn't work for me.
So, recap: Why does resolving domain names fail for certain applications (except the "host" program) when the DNS server IP is that of my router or modem (which works fine for all of my other computers), but suddenly works when I point the computer straight to my ISP's DNS servers, and how can I permanently fix the problem?
I cannot get exim4 to actually deliver any "local delivery only; not on a network".But whatever I do in the config, all mail gets frozen with entries in the log file like:"root@empty R=nonlocal: Mailing to remote domains not supported"Maybe the problem is that there is no fqdn for the computer (and will never be). How can I enable local mail delivery?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just installed a dual boot XP/Debian 5.0.4 setup on my Dell 5100 laptop. I now have constant problems with "resolving host" when using Debian. The connection when using a browser or downloading is noticeably slower than when using Windows or my Ubuntu install on my desktop. Also, whenever using the Debian install on my laptop, both it and my desktop, which both connect through the same Linksys router, constantly show "resolving host" (Chrome browser) until it just timeouts. Rebooting the DSL modem sometimes fixes it for a while (although it's still slow even then), but it eventually happens again. Turn off the laptop/switch to the XP OS on it, and the problems disappear on both the laptop and desktop. Is this a known problem for Debian 5.0.4?

There's a link in the set-up for FAQs, but when I try to open it I am told "Could not launch the browser: Could not find kfmclient". I checked /etc/alternatives, and the x-www-browser is set to be iceweasel (Debian's firefox), which is what I use. I do not have Konqueror installed. I use Fluxbox, however, I also run some Gnome and KDE programs. I checked if there is a package I may need, but came up empty:

I want to query my database on my fedora box in windows to make life easier... I can not seem to find a link to download the query browser though
I tried the Googles praised Chromium browser and while it seems to render pages fast enough and has a really nice interface, I experienced an annoying responsiveness problem. Opening a link in a background tab seems to stall the browser almost completely until the page has been loaded and rendered. For example scrolling the page that I'm currently viewing becomes almost impossible. The same actually applies to the current tab too, of course. If the page in the tab hasn't been loaded completely, scrolling is really really clumsy. I tried disabling the installed extensions and also tried experimenting with some command line options, but no help there.

Below script requires exact name of the file and then puts file context into the emails body.

Is there anyway to right click on a file in the Dolphin window and select mail to: then kmail should open and the file gets mailed accordingly.
Or some way to implement this?

Now mutt exits silently with status=1. Tried setting EDITOR/VISUAL, no difference.
Edit: I had tempdir pointed at a non-existent directory in my .muttrc. Still annoying that there was no error message, but at least things are working again.
i have recently been having random problems with mostly firefox. the 2 most annoying problems (that work in other browsers) were: no sound on various sites, like videos and amazon mp3 previews. the mailto command would not work.
the fix is 2 part: i installed the standard release of thunderbird 3.1.1 and the firefox mailto problem is fixed. i installed the standard release of firefox 3.6.7 and sound now works fine.
additionally i have removed thunderbird, firefox and related ubuntu brandng from the package manager for the following reasons:above fixes, time and frustration involved in debug.eliminates the chronic application directory rename during updates, /usr/lib/... and softlink change in /usr/bin.allows me to keep up with t'bird and firefox security patches as they are released, i.e. immmediately.
