Ubuntu :: Can't Get Blender To Run By Clicking The Icon From The Folder On Desktop
Jan 14, 2010
Trying to install Blender 3d (an older version, as current is not compatible with my ubuntu 9.04 This is the cd that came with the blender manual): System> Admin> Software Sources> Third-Party software> add cd-rom. I get E:Failed to mount the cdrom whether I put the disc in before or after I hit the Add-CD-Rom button. Synaptic gives same result. File Browser sees the CD-ROM, icon for it is displayed on my desktop.Opening the I can't get Blender to run by clicking the icon from the folder on my desktop.
Plasma-desktop crashes when trying to right-click on any icon or when trying to drug 'n' drop any file(on the desktop) in any folder.-But no trouble when right-click on the bare desktop-in order to the background pic for examble-.A possible explanation could be a fault on the upgrade packages as I had no trouble few days ago. Distro info:Mandriva One 2010.0 KDE 4.3.5
When I have an Audio CD inside my computer in the desktop there is an icon called "Sound disk". When I left click on it Nautilus opens. I would like Rhythmbox to open instead.
I've tried to change in /etc/gnome/defaults.list :
But the problem is still here.
NB: I only need to click once on the icons of the files to open them (I changed the preference of Nautilus). NB2: I have no problem with "Open with" in the context menu when right clicking. NB3: I have no problem when I insert an Audio CD: Rhythmbox opens automatically because I selected that option.
I'm now using RHEL5 and I've noticed that when right-clicking in the desktop, the option at the top of the menu list is Create Folder. Is there any way I can change this option to Open Terminal
It might be obvious, but I can't figure it out. I would have thought you can just right-click and an option would be there to add to desktop, but I only see add to favorites. What am I missing?
I downloaded the new eclipse indingo and extracted it to /home/user/opt/eclipse. I then made a link to the eclipse executable on my Desktop folder. It works well, if I click the link it opens eclipse. My problem is that it shows the rachet icon on the desktop. When I try to change the icon for only that link I end up changing all the icons for all executable to eclipse's icon.
Does anyone know how to add a fully working (icon changes) Trashcan to the Desktop Folder View?I don't want the plasmoid/widget on the Desktop or on the Task Manager Panel.I can right click -> Create New -> Link to Location(URL), but the icon doesn't change. If the Desktop Folder View is a plasmoid, I guess I'm asking can a plasmoid (trash can) run inside another plasmoid (desktop view) %-)
A couple of days ago I set up an account with ZumoDrive to sync folders between my Fedora 14 desktop and my MS Vista laptop. I chose ZumoDrive instead of Dropbox or Ubuntu1 because it is 'integrated' with Yahoo which I use a lot.Everything works perfectly apart from one minor irritation. I cannot change the ZumoDrive folder icon on my KDE4 desktop. ZumoDrive is actually designed for use with Nautilus but it works fine with Dolphin, apart from the icon issue.
I can change the icon in Nautilus but when I try to do in in KDE/Dolphin I get:"Could not save properties. You do not have sufficient access to write to /home/david/ZumoDrive/.directory."I am the 'owner' of the drive and i have also tried as root but the result was the same.
I was playing with some gtk2 themes and , unaware of the consequences, i manually changed folder icons from folder properties for some of the folders (desktop, document, music, etc) in my home directory. The problem now is that these folder icons do not change when i change the icon theme. how can i bring it back to normal?
I put kmod for nvidia driver on my Fedora 9 ! I update kernel and now when i try to start blender i have this errors :
Code:

I download blender 2.48 and 2.49 Rc static version ! [URL] But is started old version 2.48a . If i try to start from gnome menu ( graphics ..) blender 2.48a but not working !
I had automated some tedious commands in the terminal by writing them in a text file and placing an icon on the panel. By clicking the icon the commands ran in the terminal automatically. I cant for the life of me remember the icon command I used to get this to work.
I have my xbox 360 connected to my laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 using the Ushare program. In order to reset Ushare and have it send any new files I have to the 360, I have to go into the terminal and enter
Is there a way I can have an icon in my panel/toolbar thing at the top of the screen that will run this command string automatically? I'm getting tired of having to enter the whole thing by hand every time.
I am running 11.04, and was running under Unity, and then moved back to Gnome 2.23.1. I am having a segfault occur any time I click on the window menu icon for any window. Once this occurs all the menu bars disappearing and I cannot move any of the windows, minimise/maximise, and while I am able to close most windows via their menu's it is really annoying! To get it back up I have to call gtk-window-decorator from the command line. This is how I found out it was a segfault.
Code: ** (gtk-window-decorator:18789): CRITICAL **: Could not find frame info xd0u0012x8fu0008u0001 in frame type table Segmentation fault
Navbox is in my documents folder. to open the program I have to open the folder, right click on the .exe file, then click on 'open with Wine'. This works, but I would rather have an icon on my desktop and be able to open the program just by clicking on the icon.
I have opensuse 11.2 with KDE installed and I changed the default File Manager to Konqueror. I cannot empty the Trash when right clicking on Icon in KDE4. If I try, then I get Icon Settings. Howto switch off these Icon Settings generally?
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and when ever i click my home folder VLC Media Player launches instead. I had the same problem but with Totem instead back a few Ubuntu versions ago.
I am having this odd problem since I did a clean install of Maverick. I installed Exaile music player but after that when I click on 'Home folder' (or any subfolder in it) under 'Places' menu Exaile pops up instead.I uninstalled exaile for a while and everything worked fine but reinstalling it caused the same problem again.
All of my folder icons changed to the Downloads icon, even new folders have the wrong default.Anyone know how to fix this? The places icons I had to change manually
1 server with centos 5.4 running 1 client with centos 5.4 - gnome running thin ethernet network
on my client desktop i have a link to a shared folder on the server. this works fine.
to the problem: after working with this (using the link and seeing it working) i shutted down the server from my client (in a terminal screen, using ssh) the terminal screen signalled the server going down and the connection ended. the linked folder on the client desktop changed its icon fine.
after that i clicked on the changed icon (of the link that was not a working link any more) and the client machine froze.... no reaction any more. i could only end the session by >ctrl-alt-f#< , log in and shutdown.
Q: is it normal Centos is that angry when you click such a link?
I tried xdg-desktop-icon command. It does install a shortcut. The shortcut works when double clicked. But the shortcut is shown as a standard icon, not the icon defined in the .desktop file. Do I miss something?
I have just created an 11.3 64 bit image using susestudio. All seems well but would like to customize the desktop via my script that I have added. My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?
I'm trying to add .desktop file for my application but I'm stuck with very strange problem.I created 48x48 icon for my program called etmmanager.png.I created .desktop file according to specifications:
Code: [Desktop Entry] X-SuSE-translate=true Categories=Application;Utility;X-SuSE-TimeUtility; Comment=ETM Manager for time logging Exec=etmmanager code....
My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.
It starts working if I specify absolute path in etmmanager.desktop file like Code: Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/etmmanager.png About my system - Opensuse 11.1 KDE 4.2
After upgrading to 10.04, I noticed Firefox would suddenly crash for no apparent reason. I tried to run the update manager to see if there were updates available. There were a whole slew of them. They downloaded and began installing, but it gave me an error. Clicking the "do not enter" warning icon gives me this:
Code: Could not initialize the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:Problem parsing dependency Depends, E:Error occurred while processing postfix (NewVersion1), E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'Anybody have an idea how I can fix this and install the updates?
clicking dosen't register on my desktop unless i am holding the super key, how can i fix this? It works on all progrmas and everything except on the desktop. I cant click icons, select with windowing, or drag the icons. right clicking still works normally. what should i do?
I've bought Samsung n210 netbook, took it home, immediately removed Windows and installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Now, everything went pretty well, but I have a problem. Not sure if I'm just mistaken in my expectations or it's a real problem, but I can't use my desktop. I see the launch bar to the left, and everything in it works fine, but just to mention, it does not have Favorites and such, as I could see on some user guides, but only a thin launch bar with apps in it.
Right clicking on my desktop, pasting something, selecting... Nothing seems to work. Is there any problem with my install or what?
I have a favorite REXX program called fv2. When I was a Windows user I had an icon for fv2 on the Quick Launch bar. Click that icon, and the program ran. Now, as a Linux (Ubuntu) user it is necessary to go through several steps to run fv2.
1) Launch a terminal by clicking on the terminal icon at the top of the screen. What's that area called? The GNOME panel? 2) Enter: ~/Desktop/RexxScripts 3) Enter: regina fv2
I run fv2 several times per day and would really like to have the convenience of a clickable icon.
I've started using the keyboard shortcuts in Linux Mint with the Gnome desktop, and I've found that they don't work unless I first click on the desktop with the mouse.
The problem occurs if I start with no application windows open, then open a single application, and later close it leaving an empty desktop. If any other app windows are open the keyboard shortcuts still work. But if there are no other windows open the shortcuts fail to work until I click on the desktop. It's as though the system fails to return the input focus to the desktop when the last remaining app window is closed.
I have this nasty habit of refreshing desktop in a quick succession by right-clicking and selecting 'Refresh',on my XP system at office.(And,iam sure most of us do the same). With Ubuntu,if a right-click on desktop slowly and select 'align by...',it simulates the XP refresh action as explained above. But,if i perform the same action rapidly,it takes this first option from right-click context menu, which is 'Create Folder',and results in an empty folder being created on desktop.I tried double right-clicking and again it created an empty folder. Is there any workaround to handle this.I mean:Can the right-click context menu items be shuffled so that the 'Create Folder' option is moved from 1st place
