Apr 30, 2009Hi I am running a fedora 10 desktop. when i send an email using evolution the message was not sent but returns a error message:"Error while performing operation.DATA command failedError: 550 Viagra SPAM - Hi in Subject" and the message did not have an attachment just plain words. what might have gone wrong for i have been using this for sometime without a problem. or what security measures should be in place to remove this viagra spamAm I infected by virus on this fedora, all my updates are up to date.

May 21, 2010I have had a search for this problem, but have not found a match: undoubtedly it is so straightforward that no-one has needed to ask it before: I have two accounts in Evolution, work and gmail. I would like my work email (which I check via IMAP) to be copied locally as it comes in so that I can file it properly, but also kept on the server so that I can access through my laptop.
I have set a message filter which does the following:
Code:
IF
status is not read
THEN
set status read
copy to folder Inbox
Stop processing
The filter works (if I apply manually then it goes) AND I have set the preferences to apply filters automatically, but no joy when a new email arrives.

Apr 17, 2011I 've got an hotmail (live-mail) account, that I'm using on my iPod with Microsoft Exchange. This is really working fine, so I was very happy when I read, that you can use this feature with Evolution Mail.
Now my Problem is, that the Settings I use on my iPod won't work with Evolution.
I think the Problem is the OWA URL cause whatever I do it can't connect to this Server.
I'll give you the Settings, that work on my iPod:
E-Mail: xxx@hotmail.de
Server: m.hotmail.com
User-Name: xxx@hotmail.de
Password: xxx
SSL: ON
Does anybody know the OWA URL of the Hotmail-Server or does every Account have one of it's own?

Feb 10, 2010I have my hotmail account set up in evolution and it receives just fine but it gets stuck trying to send. Its set to smtp.live.com for the sending server. any suggestions as to why it wont send? i have a gmail account set up with thunderbird and it sends just fine so i know i can send.

Jul 2, 2010I have no idea and no understanding of the configuration of Evolution I mean you need to specify something called a "server" for sending and another separate one for receiving. What does this mean? I mean there are plenty of guides that tell you how to but majority of guides of no insight to help you understand what is going on. Also I don't know about you but I find it an incredibly shallow and not to mention fraught experience following guides that contain customized elements because I never know the specifications applicable to me. You can't always just copy and paste commands as sometimes variables are tailored to the instructor's situation.
What is a "server"? What are the servers involved in having an email client?"pop3.live.com" is specified by default. What is pop3?What should I specify as my server type? How do I find out?"SMTP" is specified by default as server type. What is SMTP?What is "inet daemon"? It is mentioned in some guides.What is "hotway"?"This will set the inet daemon to listen to incoming calls on port 2500, and forward the connection to the hotsmtp daemon. Now, save your file, exit gedit, and restart your inetd server using the following command" - what is "port 2500"? This is why Linux will never be able to compete with Windows. Think how easy it is to set up Outlook. It doesn't assume obscure knowledge of technical aspects.

The standard Ununtu mail programme does not appear to do so.

Jun 7, 2010I just synchronized my hotmail account with evolution and it works flawlessly, however every time I click send-receive it stars to download mail by mail (more than 10,000, so it takes a while) and it won't check if I got new messages until it is done. The first time it happened I thought it was a normal thing, and that evo won't scan ever again from my hotmail account. Does anyone know how to stop doing that?
I have another brief question, I would like to know if there's a way that when I read a message on evolution it will also mark as read the same message on my hotmail account.

Jan 3, 2011im really impressed with the OS so far, exactly what i've been looking for. the install was a little rough, it hung up on "getting the time from the server" for almost 15 minutes even though i was connected to the internet. then for the first few bootups, the ubuntu boot screen was a box that only took up 1/4 of the screen. but that went away. anyway - im in now and its all looking good, but theres a few things i would like to be able to know how to do.
#1 - how do i set up evolution to access my hotmail account?
#2 - just noticed this while uploading an avatar to this site, the box that pops up that lets you browse your files - theres no view change? i have to click each individual picture to see what it is; can this be changed?
#3 - what is currently the best way to get an expose-like feature going in ubuntu?

But trying to set up the email program it continues to say there's a problem. I'm trying to use Hotmail. And the way the email wizard? is set up it's a little off for me. All went fine, I downloaded all my emails from the last 7 years but then when I actually logged in to my email account on hotmail.com all of my messages were gone and my inbox empty. I was hoping that it would downlaod a copy of my messages - I still want a copy in my hotmail inbox for backup just in case something happens to my computer. Anyway, so my question is there a way to put them back into my hotmail account? I know its not as though I have lost them forever, I just would like the last 7 years of important emails on there in just in case.

I want to be able to intersperse my replies within a quoted reply i.e. if the email had three paragraphs, I'd like to be able to have my replies between each of the paragraphs. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to do anything other than delete from the quoted section - I try to simulate my requirements by cutting and then 'paste quotation', but this doesn't always work as sometimes Evolution adds too many levels of '> ' .

Dec 4, 2010I'm running Evolution 2.30.3 on fc13.x64 and I've been getting a funny problem for a while, that now really annoys me:
even if the settings for my hotmail account are correct, Evolution will ask for the password every time I log in. Also, since I keep it open, after a while (~30 minutes) it "forgets" somehow the password and asks for the password again. This time, anyway, it won't work and I have to reset Evolution again.
Bonus question: even if hotmail is configured correctly for receiving and sending (smtp.live.com etc.), it won't send email, but will remain stuck on "sending".
Ubuntu :: No Pop Email Downloads?
Apr 7, 2011I have ubuntu 10.10 and thunderbird 3.1.9. thunderbird will not download messages from any pop server, it just states no messages to download. I log into the web version of either pop server and there are hundreds of messages. I have so far deleted both po account settings and put them back, tried both ssl and not ssl, unchecked leave messages on server, removed and reinstalled thunderbird.

Apr 5, 2010I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. OS version: Linux xxx2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Mar 3 04:57:21 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I'm sure my network is fine, I use pop3 to receive email.

Dec 31, 2009I have been trying to figure out how to keep my company's email from being treated as junk mail by Hotmail, Yahoo & Gmail for over a year.
When I acquired the company its email was hosted by sina.com as its in China. It was being run under a windows server and had issues sending & receiving.
I moved it to a linux server system in Hong Kong that has a US co-host site in Chicago area thinking its got to better than whats running in China.
We are still having problems sending emails to hotmail, yahoo and gmail.
My entire company is about ready to redmond our company email and use their personal webmail accounts.

I remember this being the same for other email clients. Is there any client that will stay in sync? If I delete an email from within the client it will also be deleted from Hotmail's web bases interface.

The new email server will replace the primary one.I would like to setup the new email server in parallel with the existing one.This way i can observe issues that might occur and be aware of what could go wrong. Just as I get up and running again my 10.04 (64 bit) either freezes up totally, closes all windows that are open, fails to restart or shut down forcing a restart.
There's no pattern to it, i might be using the gimp or checking thunderbird emails, possibly just surfing or running bluefish. Nothing major and I'm not one to go delving under the bonnet so to speak and start tweaking things. I have the AWN dock installed and run a dual monitor setup.
Everytime it's crashed, the damn thing doesn't reboot, I get the init =bootarg message I've been reading a lot about and once again I have to run the liveCD and spend several minutes farting about purging and reinstalling grub.
I despise Windows, overall I am enjoying my ubuntu experience but things like this stop me getting any work done.
My PC ran fine for the last 2 days then suddenly it's playing up again. It's not an old machine, quad core processor, plenty of RAM.
I am having to back stuff up as soon as I do it due to so many crashes per day. I have reinstalled the OS and started again from scratch 4 times now in the last month.
The last thing I want to do is go back to Windoze but I am seriously running out of patience with ubuntu.
