View 1 RepliesI 've got an hotmail (live-mail) account, that I'm using on my iPod with Microsoft Exchange. This is really working fine, so I was very happy when I read, that you can use this feature with Evolution Mail.
Now my Problem is, that the Settings I use on my iPod won't work with Evolution.
I think the Problem is the OWA URL cause whatever I do it can't connect to this Server.
I'll give you the Settings, that work on my iPod:
E-Mail: xxx@hotmail.de
Server: m.hotmail.com
User-Name: xxx@hotmail.de
Password: xxx
SSL: ON
Does anybody know the OWA URL of the Hotmail-Server or does every Account have one of it's own?
I have my hotmail account set up in evolution and it receives just fine but it gets stuck trying to send. Its set to smtp.live.com for the sending server. any suggestions as to why it wont send? i have a gmail account set up with thunderbird and it sends just fine so i know i can send.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have no idea and no understanding of the configuration of Evolution I mean you need to specify something called a "server" for sending and another separate one for receiving. What does this mean? I mean there are plenty of guides that tell you how to but majority of guides of no insight to help you understand what is going on. Also I don't know about you but I find it an incredibly shallow and not to mention fraught experience following guides that contain customized elements because I never know the specifications applicable to me. You can't always just copy and paste commands as sometimes variables are tailored to the instructor's situation.
What is a "server"? What are the servers involved in having an email client?"pop3.live.com" is specified by default. What is pop3?What should I specify as my server type? How do I find out?"SMTP" is specified by default as server type. What is SMTP?What is "inet daemon"? It is mentioned in some guides. What is "hotway"?"This will set the inet daemon to listen to incoming calls on port 2500, and forward the connection to the hotsmtp daemon. Now, save your file, exit gedit, and restart your inetd server using the following command" - what is "port 2500"? This is why Linux will never be able to compete with Windows. Think how easy it is to set up Outlook. It doesn't assume obscure knowledge of technical aspects.
I just synchronized my hotmail account with evolution and it works flawlessly, however every time I click send-receive it stars to download mail by mail (more than 10,000, so it takes a while) and it won't check if I got new messages until it is done. The first time it happened I thought it was a normal thing, and that evo won't scan ever again from my hotmail account. Does anyone know how to stop doing that?
I have another brief question, I would like to know if there's a way that when I read a message on evolution it will also mark as read the same message on my hotmail account.
im really impressed with the OS so far, exactly what i've been looking for. the install was a little rough, it hung up on "getting the time from the server" for almost 15 minutes even though i was connected to the internet. then for the first few bootups, the ubuntu boot screen was a box that only took up 1/4 of the screen. but that went away. anyway - im in now and its all looking good, but theres a few things i would like to be able to know how to do.
#1 - how do i set up evolution to access my hotmail account?
#2 - just noticed this while uploading an avatar to this site, the box that pops up that lets you browse your files - theres no view change? i have to click each individual picture to see what it is; can this be changed?
#3 - what is currently the best way to get an expose-like feature going in ubuntu?
Is it possible to have all my Hotmail folders be synched with my Evolution? (by default it is only synch-ing Inbox)
I've searched these forums and seen this question raised by many but no clear answer on it yet...
Setting up email for first time i put these settings in:
Sending mail
Server type: SMTP
server: smtp.live.com:587
[code]....
Not working error says "connection reset by peer" receiving works.
I just installed ubuntu for the first time today, and setup Evolution to check my email from my hotmail account. All went fine, I downloaded all my emails from the last 7 years but then when I actually logged in to my email account on hotmail.com all of my messages were gone and my inbox empty. I was hoping that it would downlaod a copy of my messages - I still want a copy in my hotmail inbox for backup just in case something happens to my computer. Anyway, so my question is there a way to put them back into my hotmail account? I know its not as though I have lost them forever, I just would like the last 7 years of important emails on there in just in case.
View 5 Replies View RelatedEvolution downloads the same email message multiple times from Hotmail
How can I fix this?
I'm running Evolution 2.30.3 on fc13.x64 and I've been getting a funny problem for a while, that now really annoys me:
even if the settings for my hotmail account are correct, Evolution will ask for the password every time I log in. Also, since I keep it open, after a while (~30 minutes) it "forgets" somehow the password and asks for the password again. This time, anyway, it won't work and I have to reset Evolution again.
Bonus question: even if hotmail is configured correctly for receiving and sending (smtp.live.com etc.), it won't send email, but will remain stuck on "sending".
I'm having trouble using my hotmail account on Evolution. It used to work just fine but I when I opened Evolution today the following error ocurred: Could not login on server POP3 pop3.live.com. Error when sending username: -ERR command not expected now It then asks me to put my hotmail password... which I do and the same error appears again. Can someone tell me what's going on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Thunderbird in MS Windows and it synchronises with Hotmail.
The standard Ununtu mail programme does not appear to do so.
Have tried without success to download Linux Thunderbird.
so its not that difficult after all - just use PRISM!log into hotmail on your browser - copy the http: line and add it to PRISM then add your login detail and Voila! all ready to add to the task bar!ok so not the most in depth how-to but if youve been messing about with all the different email apps using Prism will be childs play! if not just message me and ill add more detail.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to the newest ubuntu. Everything worked great before but since I upgraded, it asks me to relogin over and over again when I go into hotmail. I had to use a different computer just to get into my hotmail to verify my new account here so I could ask about this. It will repeat over and over making me log in but i won't even spend anytime in my email.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
I am using hotmail as my main email and want to setup the evolution as my default email client.but for some reason it couldnt download my folders which are on the server.it only downloads the mail from the inbox.is there any workaround for this.also if i switch to thunderbird would it be able to download the folder from hotmail??
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am having difficulty getting the mailwatch plugin on the Xfce panel to check my Hotmail account.
I've tried:
That didn't work. So I googled it and found:
[url]
I clicked "Advanced" and selected "Use SSL/TLS on alternate port" checked the box, and entered port 995.
That hasn't worked either
I know the plugin itself works. It is checking gmail and comcast with no problem. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. i tried to update my evolution from 2.30.? to 2.32.1 usning
ppa
ppa:julenlanda/evolution
Because the exchange plugin didn't work i uninstalled evolution and removed the ppa. Now when i try to install evolution from the software centre i get this: Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.
it asks me if I want to repair the catalog, i say yes.
Is there any panel applet for KDE that can alert me when I have new E-mail in my Hotmail and Yahoo! accounts? I just have the basic, free accounts.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on laptop behind XP and Win7. No problems at all so far. Even got wireless to work (awesomeness). But trying to set up the email program it continues to say there's a problem. I'm trying to use Hotmail. And the way the email wizard? is set up it's a little off for me. I'm not too experienced with Ubuntu, or Linux for that matter. Mainly a Microsoft OS user. give me the info on setting up the email client to work with Hotmail?

I know there are Linux email clients but I like Hotmail. I upgraded to Karmic and I'm very happy with it. The only issue I have found is I can't get the unread email to have bold text. I've tried downloading a number of fonts but no deal. Anyone know the font package I need to make this work?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter reading everything that says you don't need an anti-virus for Linux. OR Linux doesn't get viruses. Guess what I have a Virus. I don't know which one, but it is sending out spam emails from my webmail, MSN, account. I do not have a local client installed. I am guessing it is linking into MSN through Pidgin, getting the addresses there, and sending the spam, somehow, through MSN. Actually one MSN and one Hotmail account. I also have not been able to find an anti-virus program for Ubuntu. There do not seem to be any listed in the software repositories that Ubuntu links into. How do I get rid of it? My contacts are starting to get upset.

First, I want you guys to be aware of this thing since it seems to be fairly new.
Second, I want to know if I have been compromised. I already changed the password on my gmail account and I accessed the site using Ubuntu and Firefox.
What is the best way to physically backup one's gmail and hotmail inbox on ubuntu?I have tried Evolution but it does not seem to store locally the mail which it accesses through gmail. Is there anyway to have it store locally a backup?
