I have ubuntu 10.10 and thunderbird 3.1.9. thunderbird will not download messages from any pop server, it just states no messages to download. I log into the web version of either pop server and there are hundreds of messages. I have so far deleted both po account settings and put them back, tried both ssl and not ssl, unchecked leave messages on server, removed and reinstalled thunderbird.

I use 'quoted' style for reply emails. I want to be able to intersperse my replies within a quoted reply i.e. if the email had three paragraphs, I'd like to be able to have my replies between each of the paragraphs. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to do anything other than delete from the quoted section - I try to simulate my requirements by cutting and then 'paste quotation', but this doesn't always work as sometimes Evolution adds too many levels of '> ' .
View 5 Replies View Relatedwe had a server with Hostway, and it was running ubuntu. The server also had Plesk installed, which did some funny things. We had several websites on that server, and many email addresses. Then we changed servers. Now we have a server through Rackspace and it is also running Ubuntu. It also has Virtualmin installed, which generally does not impose as many unconventional changes on Ubuntu as Plesk did.
Rather than using Thunderbird to download my email (which is what I used to do) I've decided I'll start reading my email on the server. So I will ssh to the server and then use some email client, such as Alpine, to read the email. So I installed Alpine. I have an email account for "lawrence". The email address is lawrence @ krubner. Currently, when mail arrives for that account, it is stored here:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/new
and then it is transferred to hear:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/cur
When I start Alpine, while logged in as lawrence, Alpine automatically sets up an inbox for me here:
/home/lawrence/mail/
How do I get Alpine (or any other client) to read from the correct folder? I'm fairly sure the email package (the MTA) at work on this new server is Postfix. As near as I can tell, my email is held for 24 hours in this folder:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/new
and then it gets transferred here:
/home/krubner/homes/lawrence/Maildir/cur
Alpine only lets me set one path for my Inbox, so I'm not sure what path I should set. If I use "cur" I will see all email 1 day late, but if I use "new" then I will miss email if I go a day without checking.
Is there a way to configure exim4 to bcc all new incoming emails to another email address? My boss wants a copy of all outgoing emails.
I know postfix can do this with a bcc_always option. Im sure exim4 should be able to also.

The email client has to be text command based because I need to use command line to send notification email from anothar application installed in my Linux (Centos 5.1) Since the email client will only be used to send email notification, I don't require setting up of an email server in my linux.

I have a cron setup to run this command: Code: /var/test.sh | mail -s "Test Cron" mr182@somewhere.com The email is sent but the output of the script is not in the email body, it's just blank. I know there is some output because there are some echo statements in the script.I don't want to get an email for all cronjobs, just this one.

The new email server will replace the primary one.I would like to setup the new email server in parallel with the existing one.This way i can observe issues that might occur and be aware of what could go wrong. View 3 Replies View RelatedWell Ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition looks great and I am way over the plain old xp, plus Ubuntu is safer and sexier. I have downloaded 10.10 desktop and it saves as a .iso, then when I open it it runs my cd burner. I have it saved on a CD and my portable hard drive. I can not run the .iso or use the wubi. I have extracted the .iso and tried running the usb creator program but it does not work. Does anyone have a solution other than buying the ubuntu cd?

I've been using Ubuntu 9.04 for a few months now after switching over from XP. I've figured most issues I've had via Google I guess about a week ago, everything I download whether it be from Firefox Or Transmissions won't show up on the desktop screen. When I few the folder in Nautilus, same thing. I can see the files with the 'dir' terminal command. I did try using 'sudo' to lauch Nautilus and was able to see my files. If I drag them out of the Nautilus window and on to my desktop, they appear. Keep in mind, I know the files are in MY directory and are owned by me. Any clue to what is causing this and how to fix it?

If I download a .deb file then when I run dpkg all files install in the correct directories.But with a tar.bz2 file when I run tar xvjf it installs in its current directory. How can I make a tar.bz2 file install into the appropriate directory?

Under vista I can pull around 4 - 5MBs where under Ubuntu I can only get about 350KBs. I have a single PC hard wired into a Netgear WNR3500 router/firewall. Anyway, I was wondering if there is anything I can do with my packet sizes or receive windows to help it along? I am only using a very small part of my available bandwidth obviously. View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to download some software stuff off of the Ubuntu Software Center, but every time I try it tells me "Waiting for other software managers to quit", and just sits there at 0%. I've been waiting for 45 minutes for it to start the download of Pidgin.I looked in the Processes of System Monitor, and I dunno what other Software manager would be running. The only processes that are running are System Monitor... and then the process"software-center" under the Waiting Channel tab goes from 0 to "do_wait" to "poll_schedule_timeout", and its status goes from Running to Sleeping.
