When I run Dolphin as my current logged in user there are no issues.
I am running 64-bit current. I have not identified which update started the Dolphin crashes, but it recently has been happening very often, usually within a few seconds of starting it, but not always.
Googling suggested that it might be a dbus issue, so I rolled my own package using dbus-1.4.0 and the slackbuild from the 64 bit current source.
Dolphin has been rock solid since. I noticed that there was an 'allow root globally' patch which I commented out. I am guessing that this may affect applications that I have not used yet or the issue has been fixed in version 1.4.
I have not seen any evidence that other current users have had this problem, but maybe Robby would consider an upgrade?
I don't know where to begin figuring this out. On a total fresh install of kubuntu 11.04, everything went fine. When I do any copying in dolphin it crashes. Konqueror does the same thing. I installed samba and I can copy files when using samba from a remote computer, locally it crashes dolphin and konqueror. I turned off desktop searching, still crashes. I tried copying from konquorer to dolphin and vice versa, crashes everytime. The system notification acts like it started the copy and keeps whirring until I close it. What can I try?

I am having a problem with Dolphin where if I am trying to view the files in an extra partition I have mounted it crashes. It only does it on partitions not usually mounted at start up. The error it gives is:

I have been using KDE4 for some time now as a test and have noticed what at first seems to be a major omission. There is no way to run dolphin or konqueror as root. Old style KDE3 in SLackware 12 had the "root konqueror" option, (or whatever it was named in the KDE menus), but KDE4 doesn't have this. I tried adding a new menu itme in KDE4 to run dolphin as root but it had odd errors about "could not start process" and "could not to talk to klauncher" - it would not display any files from my directory. Konqueror had similar odd problems - something about klauncher and Dbus server. This is a pain as there are sometimes files I wish to move/delete which I need to be root to do and it would be nice to have a gui to do this.
Anyone got any quick ways (from KDE) of achieving this or setting up a KDE menu item to run a file manager (dolphin/konqueror) as root ? I don't always want to have to run "su -c mc" in a terminal to do admin stuff in the filesystem and I don't want to run KDE as root.
I have Mepis 8.5 and I can access root Dolphin etc. but I cannot get past the ID and pwd panel when I try to use Firefox to see my localhost sites. When I installed, I knew I should not have made using the browser to be password needed, but it was too late so I am stuck with it. As I haven't used it for a while I have fotgotten the user and pwd for this area. How can I find it or negate it so I have access once I put the localhost url in the broswer?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new install of 11.3, with all the updates, on a cleaned system, following some hdd and cable problems.
So far three problems have surfaced:-
1. Dolphin doesn't see and hard disks other than the root hdd.They appear on the left side in the list, but cannot be accessed as suse seems to have chosen not to mount them.I need them because they have my backup data on them.
2. At each bootup, I have manually to reset the required screen resolution. I need to prevent it defaulting to the wrong resolution every time.
3. I cannot now see my Windows workgroup at all. This is in stark contrast to another distro I've tried which found it and set everything up automatically. The workgroup has one WinXP machine on cable via a router, plus one Win7 machine via router and wifi link. I guessit failed to sort out smb.conf or something?
In order to avoid switching user, is it possible to open dolphin in root mode. If yes, what is the command, and the keyboard shortcut to enter it.

Slack 13.1 was installed a few weeks ago without a problem, it seems to run forever as long as it is root. When I go to user it will crash 2 or 3 times a day. When it crashes it is a total lockup that only the off/on switch will reset it. There is no certain time or thing that causes it, it will just lockup while surfing using the command line switching or opening a new le. Any suggestions will be appreciated! I have googled and searched with no info found.I do have 13.1 on another computer that works fine, it has an nvidea video card in it and it is 64 bit.

I'd like to navigate back and forth between the two main windows with a simple keyboard action such as TAB, i.e. tabbing back and forth as I copy files from one directory to another. Now I did allot of googling and now it works to a level that if i press home folder in my unity bar it opens in Dolphin.Nice But the most important thing still doesnt work, that is if I want to save a document from libreoffice or pdf or what ever program it still opens a window of nautilus. I need it to be a window of dolphin because nautilus doesnt understand the networkdirs you can make with dolphin. (makeing a nautilus network dir doesnt work).

Yesterday I plugged my camera and it popped up a window asking what to do, but it didn't list any application, and the only option available was Cancel. Then I couldn't find it anywhere on the system, neither where it was mounted. Today I've turned on an USB hard disk and Nautilus popped up (why? shouldn't be dolphin...?), then afterwards plugged in the camera, and there it was on Nautilus.
But in it's interface I also couldn't find the mount point... I've seen I can add an entry on Dolphin's "Places", but I need the mount point. Is there a way to make Dolphin add the entry automatically? Device Actions under System Settings is a bit confusing... And Digital Camera (also under System Settings) gives "Unable to initialize camera, check your port settings and camera connectivity and try again. Could not lock the device", and indeed, I can't unmount it on Nautilus....
I currently have dolphin installed and I would like to make it the default so that in all cases it will open instead of nautilus. How can I do this? I have looked it up but haven't found anything that works, not sure if this is due to a change with 10:04 or just bad information.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a backup to an external drive without mounting it so it crammed my root partition to the brim. No worries, some kind soul on here helped me out of that pickle by pointing me to where that partial backup ended up.
However Dolphin now mounts my external as "John Doe 500gb -1." "John Doe 500gb" still exists in Dolphin and I cannot find a way to blow it out so my backup paths are inaccurate as they are not looking for the "-1." Consequently Luckybackup just dumps the backup right back into the root again.
To resuscitate my root partition, I was able to delete files from inside the "JD 500gb" but I cannot delete directories or the whole thing altogether. I tried going into system settings and "forget" it as a drive but that was not the right animal for the job as it doesn't clear Dolphin. I guess I could just rename the drive and make new backup paths but I'd like to learn how to fix the problem instead of a workaround. I did search the net and this forum because I figured it was a common question but couldn't find the right search parameters to get an answer.
I just upgraded my Kubuntu from 10.10 to 11.04, and now Amarok do this with some audio files (some folders) Looks like is copying something, and that brings a dolphin window and interrumpts any mouse action you are working in that instant. This occurs every 3 - 6 seconds during the playback

everything seems fine.
When i see ksystemlog... I cant find what is happen,
Of course, this window appears for 1/2 second, so I cant click CANCEL or Pause buttons or try to read more info.

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy context menu in dolphin/konquerer is very slow -- 2-3 seconds to pop up.I have a dual core 1.4ghz pc, so pc speed is not an issue.My cpu pins during the delay that the context menu takes to pop up. I ran valgrind --tool=callgrind dolphin and attached the two files that it produced.I viewed them in kcachegrind but i dont know what to make of the data.

Does extra software need to be installed to view video files as thumbnails in Dolphin? Or, am I doing something wrong and everyone else who uses Dolphin after installing Kubuntu gets thumbnail previews of their video files? See the attached picture showing a preview of a graphics file. Maybe I'm expecting too much because Nautilus (in Ubuntu), Thunar (in Xubuntu) and Windows Explorer (Win XP/Vista/7) all show thumbnail previews of video files by default.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just started to use NFSv4, but Dolphin seems to have problems with it. For example if I copy something from local partition to the nfs partition dolphin stops to response. I cannot launch another dolphin or browse the current dolphin. After copying is completed the dolphin starts to work again. I also have cifs partitions via samba, but with those I don't have this problem. Something wrong with my NFS configuration maybe?

I have installed dolphin in ubuntu 9.04 but whenever I click on a folder it opens with nautilus file-manager. I found no option in the folder properties for making dolphin the default file-manager !

1. Server with ldap for authentication and autofs maps
2. Client machines have home directories on this server (nfs3) these machines also have some 'shared' directories on the same server (nfs4)
Now if I use a terminal I can always create files in the shared directories (subject to the relevant permissions) - I can also always save files in OO and the like. The problem is that Dophin sometimes has the create greyed out and sometimes it doesn't. So now I am at a loss as to why. This is 11.2 with kde 4.4.3 btw
I once used an alternate key as a shortcut of deleting in dolphin. After that, I want to revert to the default key DEL in dolphin so I reset the shortcuts. But I find it doesn't work any more. What's more the shortcut notice following the "Move to Trash" in the right click menu also goes away, i.e. just a blank,shown in attachment. What should I do?
