I am running Fedora 12 with Gnome.I stupidly deleted the default Gnome Panel from my desktop.By the 'default' Gnome panel I basically mean the default one that is installed whenever you first install Fedora 12.

I accidentally deleted the default icons in the gnome panel on the top right. I tried to get them back from the add to panel. I went through every program I could, but none of the original programs were found. I'm running fedora 13.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI was playing around with the default panel that has the power icon (wrong lingo maybe) and the network/sound icons, etc.I deleted some items including the power icon and now for the life of me can't find it in the panel applets list in lubuntu.Is there a way to restore the default panel with the settings as when I first installed lubuntu.I also played with some spacings and other settings so would rather just get it back to normal/restore it vs add all the items back on and then play with the spacings again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI followed some badly-spelled online instructions to get rid of the last panel (because I'm using Avant Window Navigator instead), which had me do this: Ok some people realize that the gnome panel in ubuntu is very annoying and if your like me you dont want it there anymore, so you wnat to get rid of it (only suggested if you have something like AWN ), ok first push alt+f2, then in that type gconf-editor inside of it. Now in that a box should apear. Click on apps, thenGnome, then session, then required sessions. Then there should be a file called gnome -panel right click it then choose edit, then make it empty. then save it press ctrl+alt+delete, then it should not be there but if it is run killallgnome-panel, and to run it again type in gnome-panel. I did it, and now I cannot startup. ( I just get a 'busy' cursor on a blank screen.)

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn FC14/gnome I created a panel on the bottom of the desktop. After reboot the panel shows up on the top of the desktop. The panel cannot be moved to the bottom. Can go into panel "properties" and under "Orientation" selecting "Bottom" but after a second the botton switches back to "Top" without moving the panel.
The workaround was to create a new panel on the bottom, set it up, then delete the old panel from the top. When the machine is rebooted the panel goes back to the top. Seems like a basic gnome panel bug.

I can't explain how, but my desktop panel went blank, and is overloading the system to the point that I cant run other applications. I was able to run a Term session and confirm that the gnome-panel ps is using more than 65% of the cpu and 3.5 on RAM. I create a temp user to verify that is a user environment problem.
So I just updated my IdeaPad to Natty and played around with Unity. The performane was absolutely unbearable so I installed Unity2D from the software center. Now when I start the session everything seems to be fine at first. Whenever I move the mouse over the panel though it seems to switch to my old gnome-panel from the "Classic" session (with some missing icons). When I move the mouse over that panel again it switches back to the Unity panel style. What is going on? Can I fix this somehow? I will have to use the classic session until I get a working consistent behavior

If I:
1. Add drawer(s) on the gnome panel
2. add items to one or more of those drawers
3. reboot then:
1. all empty drawers can operate normally
2. drawers that have stuff in it cannot be opened.
I have my Unity desktop just how I like it, but sometimes I like to log in to the Gnome (Ubuntu Classic) desktop. However, I was playing around with CCSM while in Gnome and I've totally messed it up, I have the Gnome panels and also the Unity launcher, it's a total mess. Is there a way to reset my Gnome desktop to default without affecting my Unity desktop?

my files on the desktop, in my home directory went missing. Also looking at my harddrive it seems like it has completely wiped out my content.I had some important files on my desktop and I am wondering if there is any way to get them back? It doesn't reasonable that all my files were deleted during a panel restore, maybe they are hiding under a rock somewhere . the system I am running it on is: Ubuntu 10.04
I am running openSUSE 11.3 on a Lenovo S10 netbook. I have the default panel that is installed with the Slab etc at the bottom of the screen set to autohide. However, it does not do this consistently. Sometimes I have to minimize and then maximize an app window to get it to hide again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using the default Ambiance theme with 11.04, but my bottom gnome panel has strange white vertical lines as well as a very light background on active windows. It's almost as if it's using the Clearlooks theme for open applications and Ambiance for everything else. Also when I right click some of the systray items I get weird backgrounds in the tooltip. So far I've tried deleting all my .gnome config folders in my home directory, logging in/out etc. and nothing seems to work. Attached screenshots of the problems.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI here that 11.04 will be shipping with the Unity desktop by default. However, I prefer Gnome. I've seen the recent KDE and Unity interfaces and I don't like them. Right now I'm using Gnome under Ubuntu 10.10. Will there be a Ubuntu 11.04 with the Gnome desktop, which I think will be version 3? If there won't be, will I have to switch to another distro? I quite like Ubuntu.

version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
I have the Suse DVD with me. I need to know if I will get the KDE or the Gnome Desktop features installed as Default.
View 4 Replies View RelatedToday I installed Xubuntu desktop on my normal Ubuntu, to see what it's like, and to have the option to run a more minimal desktop when I want.
My only problem is that my login screen loads with the Xubuntu theme. This wouldn't be a problem except it makes it take significantly longer to boot into Ubuntu (Gnome).
How can I change it back so that Gnome is the default, and XFCE only gets loaded if I pick it at login?
what are my options with customizing Gnome at the login screen?
I think I made one tweak too far and as a result have lost my desktop - no top panel, launcher just a blank screen with my desktop background. I've created a new user and everything is fine under that account so I don't think it is terminal. which files I should delete/replace to restore the desktop back to it's default settings? I've deleted the .gnome2, .gconf and .gconfd folders but that has not solved the problem.

I've managed to ALT-RIGHT-click-add some launchers to the top gnome-panel. When i now click on a launcher the gnome-panel crashes(?) and reappeares, but the program starts without problems. If i do this two times in a row (1 sec diff or so) the gnome-crash screen appears and i've got to log out although all the programs are still running without any problems.

I have had this problem with all installations of Maverick Meerkat. Moving the default clock from the upper panel to the lower panel makes it bahave strangely. When clicked on, it now appears in the middle of the screen (sometimes even higher depending on resolution). This never happened prior to Maverick Meerkat.
How do I go about to fix this strange bug?

I tried xfce4-XfApplet-plugin but it doesn't work the way I would like to.
When I first log in with XFCE, I have an option to use the Default Panel or blank. I opted for blank.
1. How do I revert back to the default panel?
2. How do I remove all instances of the panel?
Before I get into this, here is a pic:
At the top there is a bar that goes all the way across and it will not go away. I can't click on it to remove it. I reset gnome and it still stayed. The weird part is that it only stays on Desktop1 but not on 2,3, and 4. How do I get rid of this because it is annoying?
