Ubuntu :: Correct Command For Installing Wireless Pinter?
Nov 24, 2010
I have a Samsung ML-2525w, and have loaded the unified driver several times previously but long enough ago that I can't remember the correct command to install it. This is what I remember, in terminal viewer:
sudo ?(enter login)(then drag and drop the autorun file into the terminal viewer to install) I am going nuts trying to find the instructions again.
I have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix for my new laptop. I've tried at great length to install the correct drivers to get my wireless up and running. I'm currently trying to install the Broadcom driver for my 802.11g wireless card. I have downloaded the headers and tools for ubuntu and am proceeding with the instructions given on [URL].
But when I get to these steps I come unstuck # mkdir hybrid_wl # cd hybrid_wl # tar xzf <path>/hybrid-portsrc.tar
I can make the directory and open it but when it comes to the third step I get a message saying that there is no such file or directory.
In the revision for the driver information it says it's for Ubuntu, but I assume it will work here as well.

When I do this the Make command is not correct for openSUSE
I got this printer HP Deskjest 1000 J110a and I have been trying to download their program for Linux Ubuntu 10.10 but I can't figure out what to do next.I am totally new to this. I have a ASUS Eee PC laptop and I don't have Windows because the trial ran out.
I have tried all the ways possible by changing settings in BIOS, changed the ROM, even the hard disk but nothing worked to install red hat 5 in my system. I tried to install in my laptop and it was done but not in my desktop. I m using HP dc7900 convertible minitower.
The last time I did a restore using cpio under CentOS 3.9 it took a very long time for me to find my seemingly correct command wasn't working and I ended up doing the work in Knoppix. This time I thought I'd run my command by wiser heads before the necessary tape turns up and I spend a lot of time finding my command doesn't work. cpio -i -mtvV --block-size=128 --no-absolute-filenames /var/log/maillog* < /dev/st0
Out of the blue a dialog popped up requesting that I enter the key for my home wireless network. This is of course unexpected since the correct key is defined for that network in my network config. I entered the correct key but it was rejected. I then clicked on the network manager icon in the task bar. Contrary to normal behavior this did not show either my home network or any of the other wireless networks from my neighbors. The only resolution I could find to restore the wireless network was restarting my system. This seems excessive.
i have installed ndiswrapper, and the correct drivers for the wireless card.
Code: ndiswrapper -l: bcmwl5a : driver installed device (14E4:4320) present I seemed to be having a conflict with the generic drivers which loaded for my wifi device 'b43-pci-bridge' and the ndiswrapper drivers i installed.
So i ran the command 'rmmod ssb' and now my broadcomm wireless device is "unclaimed"
I have 2 laptops running Ubuntu 10.04. One connects to my Linksys wireless modem fine while the other does not. The one that does not connect, will connect fine within the instances of Windows XP SP3 and Puppy Linux 5.1 that run on the same laptop. Ubuntu wireless worked fine with version 8.04 on this laptop before upgrading to 10.04.
When trying to connect within 10.04, Ubuntu pops up the dialog box to enter the authentication key. It rejects the correct key, and after a moment, pops up the same dialog box asking for the key again. I'm using WEP 40/128-bit encryption and the key I enter in the dialog box is the correct 26-character key.
The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6000 (1g ram/40g disk). Here are some vital outputs root@user-laptop:/home/bsmis# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. irda0 no wireless extensions. eth1 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"kr_wireless" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.457 GHz Access Point: None Bit Rate:11 Mb/s Sensitivity:1/0
I have a need to make a rather odd filter in tcpdump- I would like to capture only all those packages on interface eth0, that are outgoing(in other words from IP 192.168.1.1, which is IP for eth0 in this computer) and doesn't have src MAC address 11:22:33:44:55:66. However, fallowing command says, that syntax is wrong:
Code: tcpdump -n -p -i eth0 src host 192.168.1.1 ether src not 11:22:33:44:55:66 Is this possible? If yes, then what is the correct command?
I'm all new to Opensuse, but I've used Ubuntu before, I am having some issues with my wireless on Opensuse, the laptop is connected and the WEP key is correct and in the system information it says I'm online! However the internet does not work, I know the internet is online as my main Desktop Pc (Running Windows 7 64bit) which I'm typing this on, is connected to the internet!
Excited at seeing the new features in 10.04, I clicked the Upgrade button tonight. I am now really regretting it! Problems:
1. My screen resolution should be 1280x1024 but the System>Preferences>Monitors control panel only shows 1024x768.
I think I have onboard Realtek graphics. Do I need to install proprietary drivers? Everything worked fine out of the box with 9.10!
2. The sound isn't working. Again I think I have onboard Realtek sound, and again it used to work fine without any intervention from me...
3. Although on first startup wireless networking was working fine, I restarted to see if that would solve the display issue, and wireless networking stopped working too!
I have an RaLink wireless card.
When I used Grub to choose 2.6.31.20, I got some error messages at startup (e.g. mount couldn't mount /dev), but then it did eventually start up and the sound and wireless networking are working again. But the resolution is still not fixed. It is now offering 1152x864, which it didn't previously, but no 1280x1024 (my screen's native resolution).
I have lenovo thinkpad, T61 with Intel 4965AGN wireless card. It is a N card, it works under N mode in windwos, but not in Ubuntu (10.10). I installed ndiswrapper and got the windows xp drivers for this card. the issue is that i got an error when installing the drivers and since then I cannot use wireless.
The error i got is: Code: Module could not be loaded. Error was: FATAL: Could not read '/lib/modules/2.6.35-24-generic/kernel/ubuntu/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko': No such file or director I unistalled the driver, but now under network connections no wireless connections appear, nothing. I cannot use wirless anymore.
I'm running Red Hat Linux 5.4 on HP DL580 server with 16 processors and 64 GB of RAM. I'm connecting to the server remotely through SSH. after entering the password, it takes time to return the command line, if I click ctrl+c during this time, I'll have the command line prompt but not the correct bash prompt (I have to run bash to pass to my correct prompt).I tried to install Apache on the server, ./configure took 4 hours to finish instead of 1 or two minutes, Oracle installation same behavior. Server Disks are mirrored using RAID controller.
I have recently installed Linux Mint 10 on my laptop. When I look at the Device Manager in Windows 7, it says I have an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. Right now, I am unable to connect to wifi with Linux. What drivers am I able to install, and how would I install them?
I recently upgraded to OpenSUSE 11.4 GNOME on my ancient Compaq Armada E500 (Pentium II processor w/512MB of RAM) and now I'm trying to install my wireless driver with ndiswrapper. I've done this a couple of times before, but I'm having trouble getting ndiswrapper to find my driver. The driver is located in a folder on my desktop, but when I type the command 'ndiswrapper -i home/edwin/Desktop/WPC54G_40826/LSTINDS.INF' I get a message that there is no such file or directory at ndiswrapper's location, which is usr/sbin/ndiswrapper. So how do I get ndiswrapper either to look in the directory where the file is located or get a copy of LSTINDS.INF into the usr/sbin/ directory, which must be accessed as root?
After I got the OS up and running (v9.10), I was prompted to download and install some updates. The download is complete, but when I try to install the updates, I receive the following message. What should I do?
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I got openSUSE installed, and now am trying to build my wireless driver, using the instructions here: [URL].
The wireless driver is here: Broadcom.com - 802.11 Linux STA driver NOTES: - The (parenthesis: ) are my notes to show you what I was doing. - Lines with "#" before them are what I typed into Terminal. - Lines below (Output: ) are what was output by Terminal.
(BUILD DRIVER:) #su <password> # mkdir hybrid_wl # cd hybrid_wl # tar xzf <path>/hybrid-portsrc_x86-32_v5.100.82.38.tar.gz # make
(output:) if 'make' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, cnf make (NOTE: with "cnf" it is saying "Cannot Find") (install "make" command:) # zypper in -t pattern devel_basis (It installs 93 packages) # make
(output:) kbuild_nopedantic=1 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r` /build M=`pwd` make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop/build: No such file or directory. Stop. make: *** [all] Error 2
(Tried:) # zypper in kernel-source (It installed 3 more packages) # make
(output:) kbuild_nopedantic=1 make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r` /build M=`pwd` make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.34-12-desktop/build: No such file or directory. Stop. make: *** [all] Error 2
The problem might be derived from the fact I had to install openSUSE in Kernel (F6) > Safe Mode. If I need to install more things, please let me know ASAP! I am wired to my ethernet until then, which means I can't move from this spot until my wireless is working!
Ubuntu is a great operating system. It fast, secured and easy to use when compared to most of other operating Systems. But Ubuntu is not complete without some additional packages. One command make Ubuntu useful for everyday use. To get started, press Ctrl - Alt - T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When Terminal opens, type the command below and press Enter to install. sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras Programs that will get installed after running the above command are: MP3, DVD Playback support Microsoft Fonts Java Runtime Flash Player and many codecs that are required to play MP3 and DVDs. (OR) install Ubuntu restricted extras Ubuntu by default, doesn't allow you to play MP3, DVD, Flash or most media formats for legal reasons. You must always install additional programs that will allow you to play those media To install Ubuntu restricted extras go to Ubuntu Software Center from the application launcher. Then search for "Ubuntu Restricted Extras" and Install . It will install commonly used pplications with restricted copyright (mp3,avi,mpeg,True Type, java,Flash,Codecs). what is the command I need to use in Ubuntu linux to install tr and get it working.
I'm such a newbie when it comes to Ubuntu, or any Linux varient, period. I was trying to install a driver for an HP All-in-One Printer and was trying all kinds of commands from different Google searches... still unsuccessful in the installation. I downloaded the file to my desktop, but after using a Chmod command someone mentioned, I now have a folder on my desktop named:
"You are not the owner so you cannot change these permissions". The folder's icon on my desktop has a red box with white circle on the middle right side and a lock symbol above that. I'm the only user so I don't get why the permissions are protected from me, how do i undo this?
I am trying to install the rpm packages in a file by using "yum" command. The RedHat version is 5.3. This worked on RedHat 4.4, however it errors out when run on RedHat 5.3. Are there any options to include in the command line?
so i was removing softwares using ubuntu software center.. games i don't play and cheese webcam booth because it was not working, i intended to re-install it. after my installation, half my icons (i have extensively personalized my desktop) changed to defaults. The themes page said 'theme will not be as it appears because default.kde is not installed'. i did not remove any such package. just games. and furthermore, i installed a kubuntu plasma desktop system which i read in a thread contains the file default.kde but that hasn't helped and i still don't know what do to..
i am trying to install upgrades for my ubuntu server via webmin, and i put in the command apt-get install imagemagick and when i do that i see the output and it asks me if i want to install, is there a command that will automatically force the installation so that way i dont have to hit yes or Y?
I've just done a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 and installed Freevo on it from the Medibuntu repositories. After rebooting I get a shell window with no frame in the top-left corner of the screen with the Ubuntu loading screen still taking up the rest of the screen. Typing 'startx' gave a error that there is already a display running on the port.
