I'm all new to Opensuse, but I've used Ubuntu before, I am having some issues with my wireless on Opensuse, the laptop is connected and the WEP key is correct and in the system information it says I'm online! However the internet does not work, I know the internet is online as my main Desktop Pc (Running Windows 7 64bit) which I'm typing this on, is connected to the internet!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora 15 today and after a few very long hours finally got the broadcom driver to work and my laptop is now connected to my router. Yay! But now when I try going to a website in firefox it says server not found. I can ping anything inside my network but when I try to ping outside the network, for example google, it says ping: unknown host google.com. So I thought it might be a DNS problem but the network settings point to the router for DNS so I'm not sure what else could be wrong. All of the other settings look correct.

But for internet connection i have to go to windows. This is because ubuntu is getting connected to the network but is unable to access internet, whereas the windows can. I want to totally abandon windows. Recently i got internet connection in ubuntu for just 15 minutes or so when i ticked the option AVAILABLE TO ALL USERS. but after that the same story continues and iam not able to access internet. Details about Internet connection: This is not my connection, these signals come from nearby building. Its a wifi open public network.

I go to wireless connections in the toolbar at the top of the screen and click on my internet modem and it says its connected. So I go to firefox and it brings up google. I try and do a search and it says something and at the bottom of the page it displays a button that says "Try Again". Well I have been succeeded to connect to the weather center, but I can't update or open the Internet even if I have been able to open Hotmail.com after 2 minutes it won't open anything after that
Note: I didn't install the driver for adapter and I don't know how to do it because I tried before and I failed adding I used it on more than one distro. By the way it works perfect on Windows?
I just installed a dualboot win7/F15 on my laptop (dell XPS 15) and everything seems to be working fine except that when I connect to my network it is connected and the network is accessible (I can visit my gateway/ router) but when I try to visit a website it simply never ends loading it.Internet is working on win7 so it isn't my network's fault.Now I found somewhere that updating could help but since I dont have internet I can't update
View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 10.10 the day it came out, and haven't had any problems with internet stuff. My wireless card works without any proprietary drivers. Last night, the computer stopped connecting to the internet. I am still connected to my wifi network, but I can't do anything online. I had assumed that my internet connection was just down in general, and tried resetting the computer, shutting down the computer and then turning it on again, and rebooting the modem, but then my Xbox connected, and my laptop running 10.04 connected, so I'm confused as to what is going in. Any ideas?

I just upgraded to 10.10 from the previous version after getting my D-Link wireless adapter back after loaning it out. My internet now won't stay connected. I can connect when I firstrn on the computer, with after 2-5 minutes it drops the connection and gives me the "Wireless Network Authentication Required" prompt. It won't connect again without unplugging the adapter and plugging it back in.I borrowed a Belkin wirelss adapter to try it, and it does the exact same thing. PLEASE can someone help me, I really need the internet up on the computer(Also, when I first got the adapter-- while running the old version of Ubuntu-- it would not recognize or connect at all and I spent 4 hours messing with drivers and settings to get it to work, which it did flawlessly. Until I upgraded.)

I am using a wimax modem, the wireless is connected (have IP addresses) but I do not have access to the internet.I also have installed a windows XP as a guest OS (ubuntu is the host) on vmware. By using a bridged network connection, I am able to access internet. So I guess the problem is related to the ubuntu wireless driver.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying out the fedora live cd but I couldn't get my Internet to work. When I open firefox it always said server not kind no matter what I searched or put into the address bar:
I tried many different things but none o them worked
I am able to ping m router an I'm able to login to my routers page
I am also able to login to my modems page and it says connected to the Internet
I tried restarting the modem and the router but I still got the same problem
I also tried disabling the firewall but still had the same problem
I tried a command and I was able to receive packets from google.com, but It never went through in firefox
I also tried out a torrent (I had it saved on a USB) and it worked it was downloading fine
I am able to ping googles web page but I am not able to search anything.
In firefox preferences and in network proxy I tried many different proxy settings bit none o them worked I always get the message server not found. All this was done while connected directly with Ethernet cable modem and router but untried wireless and it didn't work either on the top right corner of the screen the network icon says auto eth0 active. I'm using fedora 12 livecd.
I have Ubuntu running from my flash drive. My wireless connection shows good connection to my router and other routers I have tried; however, when I open Firefox or chrome there is no internet connection.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis morning my Ubuntu 10.10 Meerkat desktop suddenly lost internet connection, but stayed connected to my netgear router. After the usual "tried turning it off and on again" methods didn't work, I booted into my Win Vista partition to find that connected no problem. I have another Ubuntu netbook and a Windows 7 laptop in the house as well as an Android. These all connect fine. It appears to be just the desktop Ubuntu.
I can ping my router 192.168.0.1 and log into it's UI via browser. I can also ssh to the box. My router does not do any filtering or blocking. I've tried disabling the firewall and changing the nameservers in /etc/network/interfaces and dhclient.conf as well as the network manager. The network card is a Belkin 54g but I can't remember the exact model no. it was bought years ago.

I think something weird is going on. On a fresh installation of 11.04, I seem to be connected to my router just fine, but I can't reach the internet or anywhere else on my network. I just installed OpenSuse 11.2 3 months ago on my laptop. I'm running with the Gnome Desktop. I live in Chicago and am currently in London. When I set the timezone to Europe/UK the date/time are correct UNTIL I reboot the laptop. After reboot if I type in the 'date' command it shows the time at 6+ hours from London time. When I check the hardware clock 'hwclock' it displays the correct London time. I check the time setup with yast and it shows the correct Timezone but again shows the 6+ hours difference. I change the time in yast and and my applications ( e-mail) display the correct local time again... UNTIL I reboot and then I'm right back where I started - wrong local time ! I suppose I could write a little startup script to do a 'hwclock --hctosys' but I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone out there had any ideas..BTW - I hate to say this but on the same laptop running XP I don't have this problem AND I didn't see this problem in OpenSuse 10.3 or 11.1

However, my problem is not an installation problem. Ubuntu 10.04 - Fresh install on machine with no previous OS it was a beautiful install experience. I have a Linksys WUSB54GC little plug in thing that is in one of the USB ports At the top of the screen it says that the computer is connected to the network genevapubliclibrary 100%
But when I access firefox, there is no internet connection. I checked the Preferences, Advanced, Network tab, Connection and the Settings button. It is set to "No Proxy". This is the same setting as our library laptop - also wireless - in firefox but using vista. If this has been addressed elsewhere, I apologize. I tried looking for linksys wusb54gc but no one had this problem.

I did search, but could not find a solution.Right I've installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 on an old machine, installed fine and the system is running. I have a windows 7 desktop that is connected to the internet via wireless. The desktop then has an ethernet connection which is shared to the ubuntu server. The network looks like this.
Modem > Router > Desktop > Switch > Ubuntu Server My problem here is that there appears to be no connection from the server to the desktop. The server cannot connect to the internet.
When i ifconfig the ubuntu machine shows.eth0 link encap:Ethernetinet address: 192.168.137.2 Bcast:192.168.137.255 Mask 255.255.255.0 However on the windows desktop (the machine sharing the internet) these are the details for the connection to ubuntu server.ip 169.254.170.50 mask 255.255.255.0
is this a dhcp problem? is my server configured wrong?
I dug up an old pentium 3 computer to play with. I have it connected to my laptop with an ethernet cable. Now, how do I access the files, install new OS, etc, etc? If it helps any, I think it runs windows 2000 and I'm on opensuse 11.3.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless network (192.168.1.0) that's bridged to the Internet and a wired one (192.168.0.0) that's only local. When I am connected to both networks, Natty wants to route my Internet traffic through the wired, local-only one.
Can I make it automatically "just work", so that the right network is chosen for Internet traffic? Otherwise, what's the workaround?
In the revision for the driver information it says it's for Ubuntu, but I assume it will work here as well.

I'm using SuSE 11.3. I have installed this betavine stuff with which I can use my Vodafone mobile connect usb device. (vodafone-mobile-connect-2.10.01-1.noarch.rpm + dependencies.) I was able to get it to run, it can connect, I can even send text messages (SMS) with it.
However, if I try to use the internet, the system behaves as it wasn't connected to it at all. ping doesn't see anything, neither does firefox etc. I have turned off all proxy and firewall settings.
I suppose I should tell Linux to use this connection for the internet, but how? Do I have to configure something with NetworkManager?

i just installed open suse 11.3 after using linux mint 7(based on ubuntu 9.04).i am currently using two internet connections at home, the first is a vodafone mobile modem, which is workind excellent, and the other is a LAN network, that on windows uses a *.exe program to run. i managed to make all the IP, NETMASK, DNS settings and the internet connected, but without the .exe program it just disconnects after 10 minutes.this is the same thing that happens with the connections on windows if i start the computer and not run the "net.exe" program, but if that program is running the internet connections works just fine. i tried using wine to run net.exe, but it just gives an error message.
