I would like to ask if someone try or is there any key binding about the conky apps..I would like to know if it possible to key bind the conky running in desktop so that everytime i want to see the running conkyrc on the desktop there is no need for me to minimize the open windows inorder just to see my running information in the desktop

I accidentally erased my "panel" and now I cannot minimize windows however they remain open. I have a down arrow, an X and a - on the top of my pages when I hit the - the page disappears but still stays active, example im on ..... and I hit that expecting to minimize but the page closes and I cannot retrieve it but whatever I was viewing continues to play. when I hit the down arrow the page just kinda shuffles to a different side of the screen and is basically useless.

Is there a way that I can replicate this behaviour in Gnome? Can I map the Windows key to opening the Applications menu?
Well i was playing with some of the features Compiz has to offer, and im liking some of the stuff, i was using wobbly windows yesterday and it was perfectly fine, so i set it and left it, today i try and play around with it and the windows don't wobble when i drag them, however they do when i minimize or maximize.

I have a desktop computer and a NAS, running Kubuntu & Ubuntu. I use WOL to wake the NAS and then mount the drives (NFS) on my desktop.
I've placed an icon on my KDE desktop which wakes the NAS and mounts the drives, this works great, but I've set it to run in terminal so I can enter the password for mounting the drives. This leaves me with an open window which I don't want to close because the NAS is set to shutdown 15 minutes after ssh logout.
My question is how can I minimize the open terminal window to an icon on my taskbar?
its possible using compiz to minimize all applications to the desktop. Im looking for something similar to the scale effect where I could just throw my mouse to the bottom left corner but instead of all open applications I could see the desktop.

In the script, I have a single instance of: firefox & but is there a way to minimize it, versus have it displayed on the screen? I was wanting the command terminal to remain visible and it can't since the firefox window is open in front of it. I looked all over the place, including the man pages, but to no avail. I can make the height and width changes, but no minimize. Either that, or to be able to bring the terminal window back to the front automatically.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have conky on my desktop, and it works most of the time. The only times I've noticed problems are when I do large file transfers from my computer to an external HD.
What happens during large file transfers is that Conky crashes, and then I realize that my desktop is also "dead" (as in, I can't highlight anything. The icon for my external HD is gone, even though it is still mounted and accessible. Right-clicking doesn't do anything either.). I tried Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, but that didn't work either. I can log out and back in to get everything working again, but that's a bit of a pain.
I'm using the GNOME desktop on Ubuntu 9.10.
I have been trying to get conky up and going. I found a tutorial here: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...stalling+conky
Now, I installed it with yum, however, I cannot open it with Ctrl+F2, and when I follow some of the steps in that tutorial, I had a couple issues:

what is running there are conky - transparent background and terminal - also transparent background AND undecorated.how do I integrate these into the desktop (I mean how do I make them both auto-start on startup and more importantly how do I make the terminal auto-undecorated from the beginning?)I found some script for conky - trying that out right now, gonna let you know how it turns out.

and i know of course i could just get used to it. but the X minimize and expand buttons on the windows is flip flopped on 10.04 now i dont have a clue how to change it back. it kept all old settings but changed this one little thing and its bothering me. ive been through compiz and appearance and whatever else i thought might change this. but just couldnt figure it out. i prefer my escape to be at the top right of my page. as i expect a majority of u do as well. anyone wanna point me in the right direction?

So when I click on the minimise button of an open window instead of dropping to the bottom panel it disapears completely. Likewise if I have say a folder open and then open something new the new one replaces the old one instead of al being available in the panel.
Where do I reset this?
Its really annoying I don't have a monitor I just use VNC and putty to control my computer and when ever I vnc in and hit d all the windows minimize I tried deleting everything under .gnome2,.nautilus,.gconf and nothing. I love Ubuntu but this upgrade has been nothing but problems. I did a complete reformat and its a huge pita. its problem after problem never had this with 10.04

I installed compiz fusion so i can play with the effects and it for some reason it deleted my toolbar on the top so i cant move my windows, nor minimize them or x them off. I also must use the classic mode because unity is nothing but a blank desktop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to work out with Conky on my Ubuntu 10.04 x64.
Conky is set to Top Left alignment, but it doesn't seem to be ending up there at all. After changing all of the different alignments, it doesn't seem to move around much at all.

My other issue, which may have something to do with the way my Conky is set up, is that I have a couple of icons on the desktop, but they only show up when I put my mouse over them, and in the next couple of seconds they go away. It seems to be related to the refresh frequency of conky, which seems to be all of my issues right now.
Another note, this conky code is essentially pulled directly from the conky website.
