View 8 Replies View RelatedI was using Compiz, and was going to check out the 3DBox add on. I clicked it, enabled it, and then my windows vanished. I rebooted. Then, when I came back, all my windows open now in the top left of the screen, and the close, minimize and maximize icons are gone. I cannot even see the top bar of a window to move it.

I am using Fedora 14 x64 and I tried to install the ATI graphics driver on it, I have 256 MB integrated graphics card on motherboard. I found the problem of "Accelerated 3D graphics is not available, Desktop effects require hardware 3D support.
Then I unintstalled the graphics driver completely because it was'nt working properly and also was'nt able to open Desktop Effects.
Now, the problem is that I am not able to get into the desktop.

I think my s7stem currupted but I am unable to rescue as I did last time.
I'm running a Dell D630 laptop that uses the onboard intel i915 chipset for both audio and video. This is in a docking station that's connected up to a larger monitor. The laptop boots just fine as it has been for quite a while now. I get to the login prompt, enter my credentials and then after pressing enter and it looks like it's going to load my profile, the wallpaper updates but then the screen goes black for a moment and I'm then brought back to the login prompt again. The system is up on the network so I was able to ssh into it and capture the following from the logs during a login attempt.

I am running F11 and want to spanky up my Gnome desktop a little by adding the desktop effects. When I try to enable it, my screen flickers then returns simply "unable to enable effects".I don't know where to go from here, I tried to google this but the 15 billions hits made me weep.One link seemed to provide some hope but after following the instructions, things went totally wrong and screwed up my X server; this could be because at first I didn't realise but a default install of F11 puts the PAE kernel on.

I have read the remote desktop setup and added port 6000 to firewall, added host name of server to xhost (nick@192.168.1.110). Added the line to /etc/gdm/custom.conf like in fedora guide (DisallowTCP=false). But i still get the error

I was recently learning to compile software from source code(tar.gz) files,he instructions told me to extract the files to the desktop. After I did this, I now see the folder on the desktop with the files in it, and I am unable to delete the folder. The error message says "there was an error deleting copying". Error removing file:Permission denied. Has anyone ever experienced this? I've run out of ideas as to how to get rid of it

Is that possible to ssh to a box and launch a programme, say firefox, have the session disconnet when not using it and then you can reconnect to the same session again?

I've installed additionally Emerald, ccsm and fusion-icon. I'm starting compiz using Fusion-icon. Just in the ccsm menus and icons I really can't find anymore how to setup those nice things like the magic lamp or there was also an effect which makes the window fold on minimizing (or closing).
And where did the burn effect go? It used to be there at some point in the past? And for closing effects and I didn't find nothing at all? Is there another configuration tool, besides ccsm, do I need to edit some config files in order to setup these things, should I install something more or nowadays. Compiz is losing its effects? Why all the topics regarding graphic effects are only on Ubuntu? Let's write about Fedora too !!
I have a programme known as OpenRep which can be launched by executing the file named OpenRep.jar by OpenJDK Java 6 Runtime programme This programme can also be launched through terminal by the command
