Ubuntu :: Windows Dissapear On Minimize / Reset This?
Jun 24, 2010
OK I feel silly having to as this as it probably some setting I changed but cant figure out where I did it..
So when I click on the minimise button of an open window instead of dropping to the bottom panel it disapears completely. Likewise if I have say a folder open and then open something new the new one replaces the old one instead of al being available in the panel.
Well i was playing with some of the features Compiz has to offer, and im liking some of the stuff, i was using wobbly windows yesterday and it was perfectly fine, so i set it and left it, today i try and play around with it and the windows don't wobble when i drag them, however they do when i minimize or maximize.
I just upgraded to Lucid Lynx, every time I restart my computer the title bar disappears and everything is displaced (icons and dialogs opening). If I change Visual Effect from None (My normal setting) to Normal and back, the title bars shows normal, but this happens every time I restart and it's very hard to fix with 70% of the dialog hidden on top.
and i know of course i could just get used to it. but the X minimize and expand buttons on the windows is flip flopped on 10.04 now i dont have a clue how to change it back. it kept all old settings but changed this one little thing and its bothering me. ive been through compiz and appearance and whatever else i thought might change this. but just couldnt figure it out. i prefer my escape to be at the top right of my page. as i expect a majority of u do as well. anyone wanna point me in the right direction?
Its really annoying I don't have a monitor I just use VNC and putty to control my computer and when ever I vnc in and hit d all the windows minimize I tried deleting everything under .gnome2,.nautilus,.gconf and nothing. I love Ubuntu but this upgrade has been nothing but problems. I did a complete reformat and its a huge pita. its problem after problem never had this with 10.04
i'm a long time windows user that decided to try out Ubuntu. I installed compiz fusion so i can play with the effects and it for some reason it deleted my toolbar on the top so i cant move my windows, nor minimize them or x them off. I also must use the classic mode because unity is nothing but a blank desktop.
I have a issue with my ipod touch 4g, when I connect on Ubuntu 10.10 the OS it detect perfectly (only see the photo folder)but on Rhythmbox appear but disaapear quicly and I can't transfer my music on my ipod.
I have recently reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10 with Compiz and emerald themes. I've replaced the default window manager in Compiz with emerald and everything works fine until I shut down and restart. The I have no window theme at all. If I go to the window decorator and reinstall the default manager and then once more enter emerald --replace everything is fine until the next time I restart. I guess that I could just leave everything running but that's not the kind of guy I am. can you give me a hand here?
How can I set the hot key of Super > "D" to minimize all open windows and show the desktop. I used that feature all the time in Windows. I use compiz too.
i want to add some shortcuts in kde as minimize all windows ... how i caan add this? for example in gnome i added ctrl+alt+home to be a shotrcut key for home folder how i can do this in kde?? when i go to standard shortcut keys it has only app such as juk , ... and in it windows shortcut also there is no such options ,what i must do?
I use slackware 13.1 with KDE 4.4.3 When I minimize an application windows, I don't see it no more in my task bar but the system Monitor still show me this application is running. and I can only see it again using
Quote:
show application window in the system monitor.Otherwise I have to run it again and then my data are losted.
I' seem to have turned on something that causes application windows to collapse into small squares in the upper left hand portion of the screen .I was playing with desktop effects but have turned that off .
I am using GNOME Ubuntu 64 bit Lucid Lynx with Cairo Dock, Compiz Fusion, Screenlets
Sometimes when I start up linux the buttons to close, maximize, and minimize windows and the Application title bar disappear. Restarting usually fixes the problem.
Do you have any ideas why this would happen? Is there a command that will restart gnome without having to restart the computer?
I would like to ask if someone try or is there any key binding about the conky apps..I would like to know if it possible to key bind the conky running in desktop so that everytime i want to see the running conkyrc on the desktop there is no need for me to minimize the open windows inorder just to see my running information in the desktop
I did an upgrade to F15 from F13. I was a little skeptical about the upgrade (I had always reinstalled in the past), but so far it seems to have worked great. What were people thinking when they released Gnome? No minimize of resize buttons for all windows (I downloaded the F15 updates today, and there doesn't seem to be any updates to fix the situation). Ridiculous. Who did any testing on this? Once a fix was found for that, I find Gnome to be non intuitive and inefficient regarding response time and user key strokes required.
I would like to create a keyboard shortcut to minimize/iconify an active window. Tried xbindkeys-config but no luck.
Alt+F2 brings up the run command on nearly any desktop environment Alt+F4 kills the app being active at the time Win+D will minimize all windows
How can I get Alt+F3 to minimize/iconify a window which is active? Thin can be achieved by Alt+Space+N but it's to long and I would like to change this keybind on Alt+F3 since it is quick.
I have firefox 5 on my old box. But the border disappear regularly (in flwm). how to then minimize the window? (where firefox is). Perhaps there is a "ctrl something" for making appearing again the flwm border? In the remaining time, I have to close firefox with "File Exit" when I want to start another programm or go into another window. I desinstalled/reinstalled firefox, then the border was again then and i could minimize/maximize the window..
I did a clean install of 11.04 and I have experienced that my separate X-screen does not have the program-name bar with the minimize, close-buttons etc. It's my third monitor is a separate X and it does not really work since I cant close programs, maximize windows or move them around. I cant even write anything on it. The first two monitors work great as one X-screen, just as they did in 10.10. Ubuntu Classic, no Unity. Two monitors (one X) on a ATI HD6970 One monitor (the X-screen that doesn't work properly) on a ATI HD4870
Windows close and minimize buttons have disappeared in Genome. In other desktops like KDE and cfxe they are present BUT I am using Gnome. My distro is Ubuntu ultimate 2.7 64bit.
I installed XFCE on a machine built with the FC 15 LXDE based live CD using yum groupinstall XFCE. I got a usable XFCE session, but after a period of use, some things have gone missing. The windows don't have minimize, resize and close icons on the top bar. The settings selection for "Window Manager Tweaks" doesn't start any program. The programs that are open in the users session are not saved, even though that option is checked. Can this be explained by corruption of a single file somewhere? Or should I re-install XFCE again.
My webcam works AWESOME when it works. However, occasionally it produces no video for Ubuntu based applications. Cheese, aMSN, Skype or anything else for Ubuntu Lucid.
I have tried power off & cold booting. Moving from one USB port to another, warm booting etc...
The only way to make it work instantly is to boot into Windows XP and access the Webcam. Then upon rebooting to Ubuntu the cam works perfectly again.
It's not a matter of Ubuntu finding and recognizing the cam. It always does and TRYS to activate the cam (the led comes on when loading any cam application) but it produces no video.
Is there a command I can use to force a RESET of the video device so I can stop loading Windows?
every now and then, one of my customers forgets his windows user password, and asks me to reset it. till now i used a small windows app called "Password Renew for NT" from a windows PE bootdisk, but i want to have an alternative that runs on my opensuse 11.4 box, so i can connect the windows hard drive on it and reset the password from suse.
I found and the program "chntpw" in the build service, but it seems on beta status. And most information i found of it is very outdated. Has anyone used it? does it work ok on all modern windows versions (xp, vista and 7)? any other alternatives you can recomend?
I'm unable to reset using either the reset option in gnome shell or the command using a terminal. When I select it the shell exits and displays the graphic "exploding" and then it just sits there. Shutdown works fine; just no reset. Any ideas? I've installed from the DVD. I booted the live CD and it resets just fine so I know it's no my hardware
I accidentally erased my "panel" and now I cannot minimize windows however they remain open. I have a down arrow, an X and a - on the top of my pages when I hit the - the page disappears but still stays active, example im on ..... and I hit that expecting to minimize but the page closes and I cannot retrieve it but whatever I was viewing continues to play. when I hit the down arrow the page just kinda shuffles to a different side of the screen and is basically useless.
I try to access my ubuntu machine via my Windows Machine (Samba Server on Ubuntu Machine). Anytime I try to access the machine it asks me for my password...I enter it but it says it is invalid....is there anyway to reset it? I have already tried to remove and purge everything Samba related and then tried reinstalling, but that still didn't do anything
I set the default os to boot as windows 7 with a timeout of 1 second. I thought that this would be enough time to switch os ubuntu when i need to, but I am unable to. How can i reset the timeout to 3 seconds? I also cannot view the ubuntu partition within windows because of ubuntu's file system.
I have been a long time Windows OS user. I am in the process of learning Linux in a college class that is focused around Ubuntu.I like how in Windows OS that when you lick minimize in a window that the open window will minimize to the task bar. Is there away to do this in Ubuntu 9.10 ? I will need a n00b step by step how to for this one.
