I have a My book usb drive that in the provious install would show up with a My book icon as a "drive" on my desk top, in PLaces it shows as a blank icon.. for some reason the icon does not appear on my desktop, like normal, examples plug in ipod, ipod icon shows up, usb mini drive, that shows up?Also this could be related .. but my Pidgen icon on the tack bar does not show anymore... it used to be that I opened it and a little green icon sat by the clock?
I already restored regular icons by going to gconf. However, the icons on top right where the "power" button is located, still have no icons. Is there any way to add icons to the hibernate/ shut down , etc words?
I do 'mkisofs -iso-level 1 -o image John Smith.txt'. Only an example. When I mount image, ls outputs john_smi.txt. So it has shorten to 8.3 and translated ' ' into '_'. This is in accordance with the manual, although it doesn't say the conversion will be done.

However, as it did not reject the file name, it should have converted it to all upper case, it seems to me. And -iso-level 2|3 does the same thing.

yesterday I upgraded my Fedora installation via preupgrade from 11 to 12.Now there are some icons missing! If I go to the 'System' menu in the panel, there are no icons at all.If then I select the 'Settings' submenu, all of its icons are visible.I figured out that the package redhat-menus and fedora-icon-theme make up the representation of this icons and reinstalled them. Then I additionally executed 'gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders-64 > /etc/gtk-2.0/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf.loaders' (I read this somewhere in the forum). But nothing happend so far?!
I made further efforts trying to find out the icon of the System Configuration Menu (Syst -> Administration). The file '/usr/share/desktop-directories/SystemConfig.directory' contains the icon that should be displayed for the System->Administration menu. This file contains the line: Icon=preferences-system Good so far.I thought that selecting the gnome icon theme would fix this problem, but this also didn't help!Now I'm at the end of my knowledge (or I don't want to rename single icons to match the names required)...

how to reproduce: open firefox, download and install some plugins/addons that generate menu entries with an icon in front of them. e.g. "downthemall" (down them all)

there is however space for these icons in the menu. and I can see icons in the bookmark and history menus. (web page favicons)
these icons improve the usability greatly because they offer a visual guide to the menu not only to the item they belong to but also to other items because I know that the item I want is e.g. one above the green triangle.
I have a slightly impaired vision so this a far greater issue to me than you well sighted folks may think. Just put on some glasses with lots of fingerprints on them and you will see the difference.
In Ubuntu 10.04 Final in Ubuntu Software Center there are missing icons? Thought it was my desktop computer,but is same on another computer.Will this be fixed soon?
I installed Xubuntu Maverick Meerkat recently, and I have a minor issue, Skype is missing its menu icons. It looks like this:
I have checked 'show menu icons' option in Xubuntu settings, and all gtk apps have their icons. Skype is a Qt app however. VLC is also a Qt app, and it's missing its icons, too.
I've just installed the new Ubuntu 11.04 and encountered a strange problem. The Launcher bar appears, everything is ok, but i can see no icon on the Unity Launcher. When i move the mouse over the launcher, it tells me where the icons should be. The apps also open when I click in those places. But NO icon? Can anybody tell me why is this happening? It is very annoying. I would accept it easier if it didn't work at all.. but not this way.
The tray icons for many apps (especially QT apps) are missing! Important apps that become unusable after being minimized to tray - due to having no tray icon: * Pidgin * KeePass * JungleDisk
Anyone know if this can be fixed? A workaround? An explanation? Is this a known (rather extremely serious I should say) bug?
I think I accidentally pressed a key and then my desktop icons and my taskbar vanished.I've tried everything but I can't fix it. My cursor does not move off the screen so I don't think it is a resolution problem.I'm running Ubuntu 10.10I've had some similar problems in the past but with a single restart of the computer the problem solved itself
I instaled the samba packages in RHEL 5.1 and everything was fine until i reboot the system. After restarting the system i cant find any of my desktop items in the GNOME view. Also right click is not working.
After playing around with Ubuntu Tweaks to remove the "Recent Documents" logging, I somehow ended up losing the icons for "Applications" and "Files & Folders".
I tried lots of different things but the only thing that seemed to sort it was this:
Log out. Log in under Ubuntu Classic (for some reason dropping back to tty with Ctr, Alt and F2 didn't do it). Bring up the terminal and do code...
Log back into Ubuntu (not classic) and hopefully, you should end up with all icons back as they were.
This worked for me but I can't remember if I'd gotten rid of the ".recent-documents.xbel" file in my home folder first, so if all else fails you could try that before you start removing and re-installing Unity.
I am reasonably experienced with Fedora 15 - having used two systems upgraded from Fedora 14. I had a strange problem with a brand-new Dell Vostro 3550 laptop with clean a Fedora 15 x86-64 installation. I chose to download the boot image and install from the network. I selected packages for software development without customizing anything. The installation went on smoothly. Once I started using the system, I used yum to install several additional packages. Strangely the icons for these applications seem to be missing.Screenshot1 shows that both Thunderbird and Remmina (for remote desktop) icons shown generic icon.Screenshot2 shows the Default Applications tab in the System Info where Thunderbird does not have an icon.
I have not used OpenSUSE for some time, but I am running 11.4 32 bit on my laptop now. The system runs fine and stable, but I am surprised to find icons missing for a few applications. They've never been there, like if they are missing from the rpm they are installed from.
I am using slackware-current 32bit version. After upgrading from kde 4.2.4 to 4.3.4 (using slackpkg), all my K-menu icons were missing. There are also no icons in task managers for all kde-based applications like konsole,dolphin etc.. But for non-kde application like firefox, wicd and xmms, the icons show up in task manager. I have tried reinstalling kdebase, kdebase-runtime and kde-userspace with no luck.
have only been using it for a couple weeks now. i installed Picasa from google just now and since then my desktop icons have disapeared and if i open the file manager it closes within 5 seconds. i have tried rebooting the computer and have now completly removed picasa and the problem is still there.
Ubuntu Lucid not all the icons in the menus on the panel at the top of the screen are there any more.how do I get those back? I really miss my bookmarks icon, and the icons in the system menu. I don't care if the icons are there by default, I just want the choice of whether or not they are displayed.
Just installed gnome-Shell in Natty Narwhal. the only problem know is that all the icons have disappeared and the theme has gone to a more "basic" look. No matter what desktop session I choose (Unity, Gnome-Shell, Classic) I can't change anything back since the "appearance" menu seems to have been removed while gnome-shell was being installed.
I used the official PPA to change to Gnome Shell in Natty; it all works well (after sorting out the theme) and pleased I can stick with Ubuntu and the latest Gnome, but...
I am missing the bluetooth and power icons (top-right), anybody know how I could get those back?
Ubuntu 10.10, was working perfectly for months and suddenly, when i boot my laptop, i cant see any desktop icons, and get nothing on right-clicking. All applications that i start do not have title bars, and the Appearence->visual effect->which was always set to Extra, now boots with None.
