Slackware :: Missing KDE Icons After Upgrade From 4.2.4 To 4.3.4?

Jan 26, 2010

I am using slackware-current 32bit version. After upgrading from kde 4.2.4 to 4.3.4 (using slackpkg), all my K-menu icons were missing.
There are also no icons in task managers for all kde-based applications like konsole, dolphin etc.. But for non-kde application like firefox, wicd and xmms, the icons show up in task manager. I have tried reinstalling kdebase, kdebase-runtime and kde-userspace with no luck.

Slackware :: Missing Xfce4-power-manager Icons In Xfce 4.8

Jun 25, 2011

I'm using Slackware64 13.37 with Robby's Xfce 4.8 build on a laptop with two batteries. I've noticed that when the charge for one battery is depleted, the empty battery icon for the xfce4-power-manager panel applet is displayed as an "image missing" icon (see the attachments for screenshots of how this progresses).

Is this just down to a missing image, or is it more subtle than that? Has anyone else had the same problem, and if so how did you fix it? So far I've tried clearing the GTK+ icon cache and reinstalling the hicolor icon theme package as suggested in other threads in this forum, but nothing changed.

Slackware :: Icons Disappeared 64-current Upgrade

Nov 15, 2010

I've (almost successfully) upgraded my 64-current.

1. It used to be or is? 64-current multilib, however, before the upgrade I commented out any blacklisted packages in slackpkg's blacklist file (including aaa_eflibs)

slackpkg update, install-new, upgrade-all, clean system (removed all the packages that were specified in changelogs.txt as removed)

When started X two things were wrong.

1. XFCE icons disappeared

2. The mouse pointer was going crazy

2. I fixed it by following Eric's advice and created a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-mouse.conf where I put the Input section from my xorg.conf

I'm still at loss when it comes to the icons.

btw, I've reinstalled my nvidia binary blob, somehow it doesn't seem to see it. Does the new Xorg use xorg.conf anymore?

Slackware :: Can't Boot After Unfinished -current Upgrade - Libblkid.so.1 Missing

Mar 3, 2010

After the updates galore of yesterday in -current, I began to update my system using slackpkg. However, after upgrading the kernel packages, I had a power problem and the system went down. (I had run lilo first, before the blackout happened) Upon powering it on again, my system won't boot. The kernel loads, and then init takes control, but when it comes to the regular fsck, the boot halts with a big, scary warning message that the filesystem might have an error and libblkid.so.1 is missing.

Be advised that the packages in the big update of yesterday were installed on alphabetical order. An inspection on the Jan 25-updated version of Slackware-current on my laptop reveals that the library in question is part of e2fsprogs. That's odd; if there was an update for it, it should already have been installed, but the system complains that a file from that package is missing, anyway. All this boils down to: my system is now unusable, unable to boot, and I really don't have a clue on what to do.

Slackware :: Current: Ghostscript 9.02 Upgrade Result In Missing Print Filter

Jun 25, 2011

After upgrade to ghostscript 9.02 from current all print jobs fail with: 'There is a missing print filter for printer HP_F2480'

The printer is an All-inone deskjet F2480 and the cups printer queue has been
setup with the hplip tools. Before the upgrade it was 'working' with quite a few bugs...eg image not printed correct, multipage printing garbage. (page for page printing was the workaround)

Do I need to remove the printer and define it again?

Fedora :: Icons Missing In Fedora Icons Theme?

Nov 24, 2009

yesterday I upgraded my Fedora installation via preupgrade from 11 to 12.Now there are some icons missing! If I go to the 'System' menu in the panel, there are no icons at all.If then I select the 'Settings' submenu, all of its icons are visible.I figured out that the package redhat-menus and fedora-icon-theme make up the representation of this icons and reinstalled them. Then I additionally executed 'gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders-64 > /etc/gtk-2.0/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf.loaders' (I read this somewhere in the forum).
But nothing happend so far?!

I made further efforts trying to find out the icon of the System Configuration Menu (Syst -> Administration). The file '/usr/share/desktop-directories/SystemConfig.directory' contains the icon that should be displayed for the System->Administration menu. This file contains the line: Icon=preferences-system Good so far.I thought that selecting the gnome icon theme would fix this problem, but this also didn't help! Now I'm at the end of my knowledge (or I don't want to rename single icons to match the names required)...

Fedora :: 15 Application Icons Missing?

Aug 3, 2011

I am reasonably experienced with Fedora 15 - having used two systems upgraded from Fedora 14. I had a strange problem with a brand-new Dell Vostro 3550 laptop with clean a Fedora 15 x86-64 installation. I chose to download the boot image and install from the network. I selected packages for software development without customizing anything. The installation went on smoothly. Once I started using the system, I used yum to install several additional packages. Strangely the icons for these applications seem to be missing.Screenshot1 shows that both Thunderbird and Remmina (for remote desktop) icons shown generic icon.Screenshot2 shows the Default Applications tab in the System Info where Thunderbird does not have an icon.

Ubuntu :: Icons In Firefox's Menus Have Gone Missing?

May 5, 2010

ubuntu 10.04, ff 3.6.3 with some addons installed.

how to reproduce:
open firefox, download and install some plugins/addons that generate menu entries with an icon in front of them.
e.g. "downthemall" (down them all)

[Code]....

there is however space for these icons in the menu. and I can see icons in the bookmark and history menus. (web page favicons)

these icons improve the usability greatly because they offer a visual guide to the menu not only to the item they belong to but also to other items because I know that the item I want is e.g. one above the green triangle.

I have a slightly impaired vision so this a far greater issue to me than you well sighted folks may think. Just put on some glasses with lots of fingerprints on them and you will see the difference.
