Ubuntu :: Can't Get Flash Running?

Dec 3, 2010

I am running ubuntu 10.10 dual booted with windows 7. I have tried to install it by just going to a flash video and hitting install missing plugins, and that didn't work. I then tried to enter sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree and that also did not work, it just showed this.

mark@mark-Satellite-A505:~$ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
[sudo] password for mark:

I've tried everything on Adobe's site, and several methods from the forums. what's the trick to installing flash in either Firefox or 64 bit Chrome on a 64 bit system? The last method I tried was here, and the terminal said 404 not found after the download command.

Ubuntu :: Flash Video Stutters - Running Without The NVidia Graphics Drivers?

Jun 8, 2011

First off, I'll come clean and admit that I am still relatively green to Linux, but I'm not afraid to tackle the complex. I have a few stroke-inducing issues that I haven't been able to resolve as a usually do by eye-grepping Google and the various forums. Of course, I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity - which is fairly new and undiscovered country.

I've got this no-name brand, sample laptop from a manufacturing partner of ours out of Shenzhen China. It's rocking a Core i3 M350 with an nVidia GT 330M (discreet-ish?)& apparently some flavor of Intel integrated graphics.

Now, there are so many variables at play, I'm not quite sure where to begin - so please bear with this post a bit longer as I unravel the details. Loading the nVidia drivers (both proprietary and the experimental open varieties) results in Unity no longer working and dumping me back to the classic Ubuntu desktop. I believe it has something to do with the fact that I have no ability to disable the integrated graphics through the BIOS and Ubuntu has set its hopes and dreams upon using Intel graphics for the rest of all time.

That said, running without the nVidia graphics drivers, I am able to use Unity and it runs pretty well. The only caveat being that on occasion (read: intermittently), when the laptop wakes up from suspend/hibernate mode, playing Flash video in full screen gets choppy (stutters). Restarting Ubuntu resolves the issue. I suppose I should verify that I am using Firefox 4.

In addition, there are times that the WiFi adapter will not wake, and using the keyboard function key to power cycle it ceases to function. A complete shutdown is required to address this one. i.e. Restarting and warm-booting does not fix it.

Did I mention Skype is a terd? I don't actually expect a fix for this pile of hot mess - just thought it might make someone laugh. If there is anyone here that could lend me a hand with any or all of these issues, not only will you have the satisfaction of knowing that you are one bad Mambajamba (TM), but I'll buy you a drink or something via Dwolla or bitcoin.

Fedora X86/64bit :: X86-64 Flash And FireFox Running From User?

Apr 10, 2009

I find myself in a bit of a pickle. Following a yum update which included FF 3.0.8 FireFox stopped working details can be found in Fedora Bug 494255. To keep going I installed FireFox (from Mozilla) in /home/user/firefox which works great now I've installed all the i386 stuff it wanted, I've got all my bookmarks, saved passwords etc BUT I can't get flash to work. I figured all I needed to do was put a link to libflashplayer.so in /home/user/firefox/plugins/ and we'd be good but when I go to a site with flash content FF crashes. I installed Leigh 123s X86-64 flash rpm and made a link to it as above and got the same result.

General :: Video Prevent Screensaver When Flash Is Running

Apr 6, 2011

I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask, or if this has been asked before, but it has been bugging me for some time and I have not had any luck with it. I imagine that my problem is not unique to my circumstances, but here goes.I am running Arch Linux, and quite frequently watch videos, particularly flash, in fullscreen. However, eventually, the screensaver appears, and starts dimming the screen. I have the screensaver set to run whenever the computer is 'idle'. Does anyone know a way to either.Stop the screensaver from appearing when in a flash video or watching other video?Stop the screensaver from appearing when a flash video or normal video is full-screened? Heck, even..Let the screensaver know that my machine is not idle when watching flash.

Debian :: OS Running On Compact Flash Card - Files Appear To Be Corrupt?

Sep 30, 2009

I have a system with Voyage-Linux (Debian based) as my OS running on a compact flash card. Some files appear to be corrupt on it. Whenever I do a ls,cp,mv,rm command on these files I get the message Stale NFS file handle. I actually had the problem on 2 identical systems. I fixed the first one by attaching the CF card to another linux system and then running e2fsck -f -v /dev/sdb1. It got rid of the bad file.

My problem is I won't be able to do that all the time. I'm gonna have several of these systems in different places and won't have direct access to them, therefore I'm looking for a solution that would work on the system itself. Now running e2fsck on a mounted filesystem seems to be a bad idea from what I read, but I tried anyway and it did not get rid of the file. I tried running tune2fs -c 1 /dev/hda1 and rebooting, which is supposed to run e2fsck after the next boot (not 100% sure here) but that didn't seem to work.

Software :: Output Sound From Flash Videos To Esd Running On Another Machine

Sep 13, 2010

This could be easy but I obviously don't find the way myself, so I'm asking.I have esd running on a small device (router running OpenWRT).This has a large harddrive and a soundcard attached via USB and I'm using it to play my music via mpd, which also runs on this little device. Can't use pulseaudio, which would be better I suppose, because pulseaudio is not available for OpenWRT latest, so it's got to be esd.Playing the sound of movies I watch on my laptop through this device also works.I use mplayer and its esd-output - works nicely.

What I miss and want to do is:direct all sound from my laptop to esd on the above device.Specifically I would like to hear the sound of flash clips like those on ..... or metacafe through the nice speakers attaced to the device rather than through my laptops really low quality speakers. What I've done to get mplayer to output the movies sound through esd is:I just set the ESPEAKER environment variable to the IP of the router - and run mplayer with -ao esd.I also set the default audiosink to be esdsink - but this appearently has not the desired effect.Would I need to have esd running on my laptop?

Software :: Running 'dd' To A FLASH Drive Results In Corrupted Volume/partition?

Oct 13, 2010

I am trying to install an ARM version of Ubuntu onto an SD card for a BeagleBoard from a .img file downloaded from http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/. I have tried several files of .img and .raw downloaded from several places. I am using 'dd' on a PC running Ubuntu 10.0.4. My question doesn't relate to the BeagleBoard at all since I never get that far. The files for Angstrom that I copy directly onto a formatted SD card boot up fine on the BeagleBoard, but I need Ubuntu on there and can't do it with these image files. The command I use is:

sudo dd if=<the downloaded file> of=/dev/sdb1 After it asks the root password, it chugs along for some time and then gives what appears to be a successful response like the following. (This time it was for the Maverick version of Ubuntu in a .raw file):

leiphasw@dell-linux:~/Downloads/ArmMaverickUbuntu$ sudo dd if=maverick-preinstalled-netbook-armel+omap.raw of=/dev/sdb1
4090632+0 records in
4090632+0 records out
