General :: Video Prevent Screensaver When Flash Is Running
Apr 6, 2011
I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask, or if this has been asked before, but it has been bugging me for some time and I have not had any luck with it. I imagine that my problem is not unique to my circumstances, but here goes.I am running Arch Linux, and quite frequently watch videos, particularly flash, in fullscreen. However, eventually, the screensaver appears, and starts dimming the screen. I have the screensaver set to run whenever the computer is 'idle'. Does anyone know a way to either.Stop the screensaver from appearing when in a flash video or watching other video?Stop the screensaver from appearing when a flash video or normal video is full-screened? Heck, even..Let the screensaver know that my machine is not idle when watching flash.
i use totem and vlc player for video playback, i had enabled the option in both player to prevent screensaver during video playback.yet screensaver is played during a video playback how to fix this bug in fedora 15.
So I cant get videos to work on [URL] they just dont even show up. Flash isnt working at all. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of my flash and movie players, restarting the computer/ web connection, and changing the type of flash player I dl. Nothing is working. Frankly I really need to get this fixed before I throw my computer at a wall.
I have a bash script that messages the user periodically. Is there any way in the script to check if the screensaver is running, so the script doesn't spam messages while the user is away? The xscreensaver process is always running in the background, I've noticed.
First off, I'll come clean and admit that I am still relatively green to Linux, but I'm not afraid to tackle the complex. I have a few stroke-inducing issues that I haven't been able to resolve as a usually do by eye-grepping Google and the various forums. Of course, I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity - which is fairly new and undiscovered country.
I've got this no-name brand, sample laptop from a manufacturing partner of ours out of Shenzhen China. It's rocking a Core i3 M350 with an nVidia GT 330M (discreet-ish?)& apparently some flavor of Intel integrated graphics.
Now, there are so many variables at play, I'm not quite sure where to begin - so please bear with this post a bit longer as I unravel the details. Loading the nVidia drivers (both proprietary and the experimental open varieties) results in Unity no longer working and dumping me back to the classic Ubuntu desktop. I believe it has something to do with the fact that I have no ability to disable the integrated graphics through the BIOS and Ubuntu has set its hopes and dreams upon using Intel graphics for the rest of all time.
That said, running without the nVidia graphics drivers, I am able to use Unity and it runs pretty well. The only caveat being that on occasion (read: intermittently), when the laptop wakes up from suspend/hibernate mode, playing Flash video in full screen gets choppy (stutters). Restarting Ubuntu resolves the issue. I suppose I should verify that I am using Firefox 4.
In addition, there are times that the WiFi adapter will not wake, and using the keyboard function key to power cycle it ceases to function. A complete shutdown is required to address this one. i.e. Restarting and warm-booting does not fix it.
Did I mention Skype is a terd? I don't actually expect a fix for this pile of hot mess - just thought it might make someone laugh. If there is anyone here that could lend me a hand with any or all of these issues, not only will you have the satisfaction of knowing that you are one bad Mambajamba (TM), but I'll buy you a drink or something via Dwolla or bitcoin.
I am running a shell script from a rc file in Linux. The shell script is going into a loop which runs for 8 hours. Now I want to prevent the shell script from running when Linux boots or I need to find a way to kill the shell script when it is running. I tried using killall, kill $! and Ctrl+C etc. Nothing seems to work. Can you suggest a way out. I am new to Linux.
On my crontab there is an entry to run a script I wrote that backs up my local files to my remote server. It was working great, running once a day. However, I now want to make the script run every hour. The problem is that if there are too manyfiles to transfer (Example:I ripped a DVD in the last hour) the actual backup may take longer than 60 minutes. So I want to modify the script to check if my backup script, based on rsync, is running. If rsync is still running then do nothing and exit the script. If it is not running, execute the script as normal.
I'm running 11.2. My screen saver has been working fine since the begining in December, but now when I run VLC or fldigi my screen saver will kick on for only a few minutes then it will pop back to the log in screen as if I had moved my mouse or hit a key on the keyboard.
VLC about shows : gcc version 4.4.1 [gcc-4_4-branch revision 150839] fldigi is latest version
I get a lot of these in var/log/messages: unix2_chkpwd: gkr-pam: couldn't unlock 'login' keyring: 1 unix2_chkpwd: pam_env(gnome-screensaver:setcred): non-alphanumeric key 'alias sox=padsp sox' in /etc/environment', ignoring unix2_chkpwd: pam_env(gnome-screensaver:setcred): non-alphanumeric key 'alias aumix=padsp aumix' in /etc/environment', ignoring unix2_chkpwd: pam_env(gnome-screensaver:setcred): non-alphanumeric key 'alias timidity=timidity -Oe' in /etc/environment', ignoring
If I reboot, it works corectly until I run one of those two. Not sure about any other audio type of program. Bad updates, virus, or something else?
Is there an easy way to lock my computer screen without a screensaver running? What I'm trying to do is basically fire up a web browser or terminal window that I want to watch/monitor but lock my screen so that it can't be changed unless you know the password to log in as that user.
I have upgraded to 11.04 all seems well except that now the two machines I have upgraded frequently hang while the screensaver is running. (with unity desktop). Is someone working on this? Gateway t-series notebook and a dell mini 9 netbook that are hanging. The netbook seems to be hanging the most.
I am using opensuse 11.2 Gnome. Screensaver is spoiling video streaming and I have to manually stop it every time. There are options in media players to stop screensaver but when I watch videos online it seems like there is no global option to stop it. Is there a way to resolve this issue?
have you ever tried to type into xterm ? (output of 5-11.1): Code: xscreensaver-command -lock xscreensaver-command: no screensaver is running on display :0.0 If it is working for you, which version of xscreensaver do you have?
I was wondering how to create a GNOME screensaver from a video file? I don't really care what video format the screensaver creator supports because I can always transcode the video with ffmpeg or mencoder. I also, don't care if the creator uses proprietary formats such as mpeg, mpeg4, avi, etc. I do however want the program to create an installable screensaver.
I recently switched to using xfce. Since then, every time i'm watching a video the screensaver turns on after 10 minutes. Is it possible to disable this behavior when playing a video, but still have the screensaverctivate when i'm not doing anything?I'm starting to get really annoyed, as i don't have a tv, i use my pc for everything.I don't know if it matters, but i'm using mplayer
Is there any way to prevent Flash from capturing all keyboard input? I'm really sick of not being able to ctrl+l or ctrl+tab just because I'm watching a video, and today a video froze in fullscreen mode and I couldn't even ctrl+f1 to any terminals or ctrl+backspace to kill KDE. It would be awesome to stop flash from grabbing certain key commands and pass them to the browser or OS instead.
i'm in 64 bit kubuntu, with the the nswrapper in 10.10http://www.metacafe.comin firefox i get the sound but not the video in metacafe, when the video is unblocked by flash block. Others have the same problem?
Have got a film broken up into 10 minute chunks a la ...... Tried cat file1.flv file2.flv > file1&2.flv but mplayer stopped, saying 'end of file', half way through playing file1&2.flv.
Is there some way to join them together into one, so the film may be played all the way through.
Just occurred to me you could use an * for the counting numeral in the filename e.g. mplayer file*.flv for file1.flv, file2.flv, etc..
I have a persistent usb key with Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook remix. I need to know how to stop the installer fro0m running on boot so that it just goes to the desktop
I'm learning a foreign language. There are several online sites that have Flash video in the language I'm learning (e.g., Hulu), which is great. Unfortunately, they have English subtitles, which is (depending on who you ask) somewhere between "annoying" and "actively harmful to my learning".When I'm watching them in a window, I can just move them near the bottom of the screen, or put another window over them. That's awkward, but it kind of works. But I'd like to watch them full-screen, on my TV set. Full-screen Flash doesn't let me put any window on top of it.Is there a way to watch an online Flash video but block out part of it?
Recently my firefox 3.0 browser keeps crashing sometimes when I play flash media. I have googled this issue but there is no clear answer as such why it happens and whats the remedy. So here I am. I ran firefox from terminal and here is the output
Is it possible to install and use Flash Player whilst running under a Tor enabled browser. I have seen a version compiled to run under Windows but don't want to go backwards! I am running Ubuntu 10.10.
I want to prevent users changing the wallpaper, as i couldn't found any direct method I thought of preventing the /usr/bin/gnome-appearance-properties being running,
I know that the user also can set the wallpaper without running that . But didn't found any other way .
I tried to use SELinux to it and I'm stuck at writing a own policy.
According to SELinux, it prevents everything ., but as i have mapped the user to a SElinux user ,even though he can use administrative tasks , he can run the appearance window. that means he has got the permission from a different policy , Currently I'm stuck at this place.
Suitable way to prevent the wallpaper being changed by the normal users.
If i have, say, ..... tab opened and if a click on some of the related videos (while it's still playing) firefox terminates. The same if I open ..... on one tab and myspace on another - firefox just shuts down.
I want to know why this happens, is it a bug and how can i fix it ?
i installed adobe flash player (install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz)on linux open suse 11.1. But it doesn't play vedio etc on you tube,it says that this is old version of flash player. I reinstalled it ,even then it says old version of flash player.
I just came home from a long trip, with a lot of videos shot during the holiday. I wish to share them with the rest of the family and friends, but the files are huge (full HD). I intend to upload them to the family server, so ..... and the likes are not something I want.
There's an OSS screensaver on windows that I love called PixelCity (links:blog post, github). it's pretty cool. and it runs fine on my Ubuntu (Karmic 9.10) with wine.Is there a way I can tell the gnome-screensaver about it so I can use it as one of my screensavers? I'm still fairly new to Gnome and the whole "screensavers as themes" thing is still confusing me.I've found my themesdir and tried to create a .desktop file for it, but obviously I've gotten something wrong as it just doesn't show when I open the screensaver prefs dialog, no error, no message, it's just not there.
Installing the xscreensaver packages added the extra screensavers I was missing, and I'm a pixelcity away from perfection..Of course the perfect solution would be if someone ported the screensaver natively to linux, which shouldn't be too hard as the source is open, it already runs on openGL and tries to confine most windows stuff to a single file. But I don't know C++ or 3D code or win/linux internals so I wouldn't know where to start..
