I've (finally) got the 64-bit Flash driver installed and working, but now I get an illegal instruction when I run a flash operation (video, game...) at a random point while it runs. I see this in the terminal:

It seems like it is mostly happening when I am running fire fox. The screen goes black (but in in sleep mode) and I have to push the power button. After I push power button the screen goes marron-ish with an ubuntu logo with a 4 animated dots and then turns off.
when I start the PC up again I get an error about the Power Manager not ending correctly. It has happened 3 times so far today alone.
Since the upgrade to 11.04 on my 32-bit Toshiba laptop I have found Flash crashes everytime and all the time when using my browser - Firefox
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter updating to Natty Narwhal, Chromium began to occasionally crash, with the screen going black except for the mouse,which would freeze seconds later. Any sound playing will loop the last second or so, and no keyboard commands have any effect. As far as I can tell only a hard restart works.
The exact same thing happens with Firefox as well, except that Firefox freezes with the screen image, not blackness.
It is not consistent, but has been getting more frequent, and I have noticed a pattern of the crashes being associated with paying Flash video, and is almost certain with such.
I have tried updating Flash, Chromium, and running the Update manager roughly daily for a while now.
I can follow instructions well and usually actually understand what you're talking about.
I'm running ubuntu 10.10 and firefox crashes randomly. I t doesn't appear to be connetcted to flash or anything in particular. I attached a screenshot of the crash report abd here is what it said when I clicked the details button:

i have ubuntu 10.4, and adobe flash 10 keeps crashing. i tried installing the newer adobe flash, but was not able to find it on my operating system once it said it was installed.
i un-installed, then re-installed the stock adobe flash recommended on my ubuntu software center twice, logged off/back in, rebooted, tried everything i know, but it just keeps showing that it crashed. i can't pull up anything on videos, and it crashes quickly with other sites?

when I watch Flash based video, more and more of my memory is eaten up until nothing is left and the system crashes. I don't see anything in the logs so I don't know where to start.
This ONLY happens with Flash.
Iceweasel, Konqueror, makes no difference. Embedded flash videos make them crash every time. I had to install Flash Control on Iceweasel just to make it usable.

The kicker is I can't recall ever installing flash support in the first place.
I'm bitterly regretting the upgrade to 8.2. It's just one damn thing after another.
i'm in 64 bit kubuntu, with the the nswrapper in 10.10http://www.metacafe.comin firefox i get the sound but not the video in metacafe, when the video is unblocked by flash block. Others have the same problem?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI find myself in a bit of a pickle. Following a yum update which included FF 3.0.8 FireFox stopped working details can be found in Fedora Bug 494255. To keep going I installed FireFox (from Mozilla) in /home/user/firefox which works great now I've installed all the i386 stuff it wanted, I've got all my bookmarks, saved passwords etc BUT I can't get flash to work. I figured all I needed to do was put a link to libflashplayer.so in /home/user/firefox/plugins/ and we'd be good but when I go to a site with flash content FF crashes. I installed Leigh 123s X86-64 flash rpm and made a link to it as above and got the same result.

I've tried using XFCE and KDE (currently using KDE) and after using it for a while, it will seemingly randomly crash (20 minutes to multiple hours). Just in the last two days evince, empathy, and eclipse have closed randomly. Since I use eclipse constantly and as a result it's been crashing the most I went ahead and started it from the command line. Here's the output I get when eclipse closes:

it appears to have something to do with the "decorator," but disabling compiz all together doesn't fix it. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit. The issue seems to have started shortly after installing a triple-core processor - but I'm not sure that's related.
If i have, say, ..... tab opened and if a click on some of the related videos (while it's still playing) firefox terminates. The same if I open ..... on one tab and myspace on another - firefox just shuts down.
I want to know why this happens, is it a bug and how can i fix it ?

So basicly I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 and I am experiencing something I always experience when I install Ubuntu. I will be using a window and then when I switch to another window it will randomly crash and it takes me ages to be able to close it down, sometimes I can never close the window down. This has stopped me from being able to use any version of Ubuntu on my computer which is disappointing because I really love Ubuntu.
I have no idea how to fix this issue at all, I have downloaded drivers for Linux from the Nvidia website but I get a window saying it cant be opened, and no surprise after many efforts I can't even close that window. Its a .run file so I don't know if I have to run it via terminal? I am fed up of not being able to use Ubuntu because these windows freezing is making it unbearable to use.
My Suse 11 computer has been crashing; randomly once every couple
of days. This computer mostly sits unattended downloading torrents,
except when I'm browsing torrent sites or moving files.
Typically, the mouse, keyboard and screen freezes, though some
processes may (or may not) still be running in the background.
It seems to crash more often when there is intensive harddrive
usage. A fiend tested the hard drives. And the drives formatted
and OS reinstalled without fixing it.
1) What software can I use to test the ram?
2) I know my powersupply is marginal (and consumption highest
using the harddrives), could low voltage cause this?
3) What else should I look for/test.
I just installed firefox and flash-plugin.The version of firefox is 3.0.10, package is firefox-3.0.10-1.el5.centos.The version of flash-plugin is 10.0.22.87, package is flash-plugin-10.0.22.87-1.el5.rf.But firefox crashes when there is flash in web page, unless disable flash plugin in firefox.

However when i use the latest version of this addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...11377/#reviews the screen goes grey and firefox crashes. Restarting firefox only results in more crashes. I had a older version of this addon-1.5 i believe that worked fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAnother post regarding the Firefox/Flash issue on Ubuntu 10.04 ... My main question is that I don't understand why Flash in Firefox (Huffington Post videos of The Daily Show) works differently on two computers that are identically configured (but cf. below):
- both have Firefox 3.6.3;
- within Firefox aboutlugins, all plugins with "flash" are the same;
- within Synaptic, all things that have "mozilla", "flash", "adobe" are identically installed on both (that includes Adobe Flash plugin Version 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.10.04.1)
The only difference is that the computer where it works is a 64bit system, the one where it doesn't work is a 32bit system. Can this be true, that this is the thing that makes this huge difference? Any fixes around for that (other than FlashAID)?
Its been more than 6 months that I have used this current installation of Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS, and Adobe Flash still does not work out of the box. Its worked on the 32bit installation, yet never worked for the x86_64 install.

if i rename my .mozilla folder and start a new profil, firefox will start but crash if you click on a flash video or whatever. moreover I relly need my profile, stored passwords, bookmarks. this is probably a crazy flash problem again but please do not redirect me to [URL]... this is a bug in 10.04 as it worked in 9.10 before and I would feel very uncomfortable to install some unmaintained random files the very first day I use a LTS version .

i'm running on 64-bit 10.04, and i can't seem to get flash working; well, i can see videos on newgrounds, but not on videos. it keeps telling me to install the latest flash player, and even when i install it through synapticit never shows up in firefox's list of installed plugins. then when i try to install it through adobe's site using the apt url, it says that the package it's trying to install is virtual, and the installation fails. i've also tried gnash, but that doesn't play videos videos, and i tried to install swfdec, but that didn't show up in firefox's plugins either

I've tried everything on Adobe's site, and several methods from the forums. what's the trick to installing flash in either Firefox or 64 bit Chrome on a 64 bit system? I don't know what happened, but this happened in openSuSE 11.2 as well. Now when I try to view any media that involves the flash plugin, FireFox crashes. I've reinstalled the flash-plugin multiple times. I've tried downgrading to FireFox 3, but 3.5 always remains. I installed some software last night, but it didn't conflict with anything on my system. Is there some form of bug with the new flash? Is there a functionality time-bomb, that kills itself after a while?
I saw that someone else was having issues with flash freezing FireFox.
