View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and I'd like to upgrade to 10.10. I tried following these instructions:

But the message notifying me of the upgrade does not appear after I install all of the 10.04 LTS updates. I've tried quit and relaunching the update manager and clicking "Check" a few times, but nothing has popped up. Is there some setting I need to have configured right somewhere?
I have three drives: 2x320 and 1x1.5TB. On one of the 320's I have Ubuntu and on the other I have Win7. The 1.5TB drive is NTFS and I can access it from within windows no problem.
The problem is that Ubuntu does not see it at all. In Gparted it does not show up in the drop down list on the top right. In Disk Utility it doesn't show up either.
I am attempting to Run Ubuntu 10.10 on a system with 128 CPU cores (64 dual core processors), but Ubuntu is only detecting 32 cores. I've looked and looked and cannot find any information on this topic; is there a core limitation in the kernel configuration that I missed? Currently I am using Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop, would I have more luck with 10.10 Server or another version?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have this weird problem with my usb drive (Transcend 8 gb). It had been working fine for 2-3 months. But then all of my systems, except one stopped detecting this drive. Connecting the usb to these systems has no effect - no /dev file created and nothing shows up in dmesg and lsusb.
And on the one system (out of 5) where it works properly ,lsusb has this output:

I didn't do anything special with this usb, just using it as normal (data transfer etc). And no, I don't connect my usbs to Windows systems. I have formatted it, ran fsck but nothing worked.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 atm and it's not detecting my USB stick.Well I think it knows it's there but I can't open it and well, not too familiar with all the terminal codes thus I could use some help in that department.I can get the USB stick to work on windows and never had a problem with it really...

I am using Ubuntu 9.04 with latest updated kernel,Yestarday I purchased a Netgaer WG111v3 USB Adopter (Here is the Product Page). When I plug this device it instantly detected but can't browse the internet,Blue Led is also lit up &ystem->Administration->NetworkHere is the Screenshot. But this Wi-Fi USB dongle flawlessly work under Windows XP after installing the driver from the CD.In windows it can't be detected automatically but in Ubuntu can.So my question is,what else I need to perform to get the work done?Tried NDIS Wrapper but can't find any .inf file in the driver CD.Installed Wi-fi Radar but it can't did anything better.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am just getting started with Ubuntu and love it so far. It has breathed new life into an old Compaq Presario V2000 and once I get up to speed on it I hope to start running it on all the rest of our machines.
The only major problem I am having is that none of the USB devices I have plugged in are being detected. From what I have seen online I should be getting a notification and should be able to view the devices at Places/Computer but so far, nothing. Googling this problem it appears that individual devices often don't work but I could not find anything on all USB devices not working.
Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong here?
I gotta say that Ubuntu 9.10 is a fantastic OS. I've been dual booting for about 4 years with Ubuntu and I want to scream to the world that Linux is finally a better OS than Mac or Windows. Having said that, I have an issue that I can't get around...
For some reason my USB headset is not being detected. I'm using the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 on a run-of-the-mill Intel-based desktop rig that I built myself. One of the mass-market programs that I still use is Skype so I can voice chat with friends and family - however, since the upgrade to 9.10 I can't get the mic to work (Plantronics USB headset - headset speakers work fine). The reason I can't get it to work is because the headset is not detected. The audio setting is set to "Analog Stereo Output" by default which does work perfectly in every other way.
just installed ubuntu 10.04 and the wifi networks are not detected as in 9.10.In 9.10 installing bcm-wl helped me.. but here the pacakage does not even install succesfully....i have installed b43..

Oddly at the initramfs prompt when I type "reboot" I see it flash up with syncing md devices (or similar) just my /dev/md0 and /dev/md1 are not in the /dev partition (although the individual devices are - /dev/sda1 etc.).
I'm having some problems with Ubuntu 10.04 64bit finding my digital camera (Nikon CoolPix S4000). For whatever reason, when I plug in the camera via USB connection, Ubuntu will not detect it. The odd thing is that on my old Ubuntu 9.04 32bit install my camera was detected fine (it appeared as an icon on the desktop, akin to a flashdrive or any other mounted drive).
View 7 Replies View RelatedI used brasero to blank the cd. It ejected the cd. Few days later i inserted the cd to write something, but ubuntu doesn't detect it. I had to use windows to burn some files on the cd. Then ubuntu detected it. I started brasero and it asked me to erase cd before burning onto it. I accepted and brasero erased the disc and started burning (there was no problem between erasing and burning , cd was detectet all the time). Is there any way to detect a blank cd?

I need the HDD to be detected immidiately when connected, like USB, without any restart.

When I plug it into my Ubuntu Linux v10.04 PC (completely different PC) the USB icon on the MP3 player lights up flashes a couple of times, then it starts going into battery charge mode so I know that it is getting a connection to the PC, but when I run LSUSB this is what I get:

It does not show up in Places - Computer either, although if I plug in my old Phillips 512meg MP3 player it works just fine.
If I run GPARTED it shows both of my SATA hard drives and the SD memory card for my camera that is plugged into the 12-in-1 card reader that is listed above in the LSUSB dump.
I have a gravis gamepad pro, and while Ubuntu recognizes the input device it's treated as another mouse control instead of an actual joystick.

I've just installed ubuntu 10.04 on a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge. Problem is that it generally doesn't detect the USB memories that I've been trying to use. On two occasions it did in fact detect the flash memory, but it couldn't open/read it for some reason (USB memories works on other computers), but all the other times the USB flash memory didn't even show up in Nautilus.
I am no techie so I'm not sure how to check what the problem is here. I've been googling it but either it refers to some specific stuff that doesn't cover my case or it simply is too technical for average users like me to understand.
I am listing both problems on one post because what I have read, they may be related. I am working on a Compaq Presario SR1603WM. I have installed 10.04 three times thinking I may have gotten a poor install. The computer has two issues and everything else appears to be working properly. The main problem is that the USB's aren't detected. There are 4 on the back and three on the front. They have power, but the computer doesn't detect when a drive is inserted. The card reader does not work either. The second problem is that when you shutdown the computer, it hangs on the "purple Ubuntu" screen until you press and hold the power button. Restart works just fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedUbuntu is not the problem; I don't think. I'm running Maverick 10.10. With my computer I have to unplug and plug back in the graphics card every time I want to start up the computer so I usually keep it running 24-7. There was a power surge and when I got it back running, once it reached the load boot screen and it was stuck their for awhile. Then it instantly sent me to x-term. So I tried logging in and typing:
sudo start gdm
It said it was already running but I could not display anything or login the normal way. I restarted and the same thing happened. I managed to get to Recovery Mode and I fixed broken packages and then I ran it in low graphics mode. It said that the display, monitors, input, and graphics card could not be detected. If there was a way to resize the screen to something more tolerably than 800x600 in low graphics mode I'd be glad to hear it. I could at least stick around to using that until I can fix some stuff up.
