Ubuntu :: Unable To Get MP3player To Be Detected?

Jul 12, 2010

I have a Coby MP826-8G USB MP3 player that when plugged into my Windows XP machine is detected, installs, and lets you drag files into it and then plays them without any problems.

When I plug it into my Ubuntu Linux v10.04 PC (completely different PC) the USB icon on the MP3 player lights up flashes a couple of times, then it starts going into battery charge mode so I know that it is getting a connection to the PC, but when I run LSUSB this is what I get:

landon@Core2Duo:~$ lsusb
Bus 008 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 007 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

[Code]....

It does not show up in Places - Computer either, although if I plug in my old Phillips 512meg MP3 player it works just fine.

If I run GPARTED it shows both of my SATA hard drives and the SD memory card for my camera that is plugged into the 12-in-1 card reader that is listed above in the LSUSB dump.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Get 3g Moblie Broadband Phone To Be Detected By NetworkManager

May 11, 2010

I am having trouble getting NetworkManager to detect my Huawei-Vodafone dongle and I can't figure out why. I went and checked on NetworkManagers website and I should be good to gobut no such luck. look at the following:

manpep@manpep-desktop ~ $
manpep@manpep-desktop ~ $ dmesg | grep -e "modem" -e "tty"
[ 0.000000] console [tty0] enabled
[ 47.951906] USB Serial support registered for GSM modem (1-port)
[ 47.951958] option 3-2:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
[ 47.952990] usb 3-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0

[Code]....

Although "lsusb" see it (as usually) as Huawei model E620, in fact it's a much more recent one. It's the K3520, from last year.

OpenSUSE Network :: Unable To Configure Network / NICs Not Being Detected?

Sep 6, 2011

I'm going to come right out and say I am a complete novice with Linux/SUSE. The equipment I'm having a problem with is a little web-server that was purchased by my employer that has, quite suddenly, stopped functioning. I was changing the IP address within YaST, at which point the device offered to update itself, which I saw no harm in. Post-update, however, I was unable to so much as ping the device.

I tried "ifconfig eth0": "Error fetching interface information: Device not found." I went into network settings via YaST and found that there are two cards now listed as: RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller Both IP addresses are "Not configured". The information pane, for both cards, cites:

RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controllerBusID : 0000:02:00.0 Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0) is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan devices). See dmesg output for details. The only difference in either of the cards is the BusID (0000:02:00.0 and 0000:03.00.0)

I can neither edit nor delete either of these cards. As I mentioned, I am a total Linux novice, and am at a total loss for what to do next, or even how to find critical information about the system itself. I know enough to check dmesg, but not enough to have any clue what to look for in the output.

Ubuntu :: USB Stick Not Being Detected

Mar 15, 2011

I have this weird problem with my usb drive (Transcend 8 gb). It had been working fine for 2-3 months. But then all of my systems, except one stopped detecting this drive. Connecting the usb to these systems has no effect - no /dev file created and nothing shows up in dmesg and lsusb.

And on the one system (out of 5) where it works properly ,lsusb has this output:
Bus 002 Device 007: ID 8564:1000
// As seen here, there is no device name listed
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 03f0:0024 Hewlett-Packard KU-0316 Keyboard
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 045e:00cb Microsoft Corp. Basic Optical Mouse v2.0
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

I didn't do anything special with this usb, just using it as normal (data transfer etc). And no, I don't connect my usbs to Windows systems. I have formatted it, ran fsck but nothing worked.

Ubuntu Installation :: No USB Devices Detected / What To Do?

Mar 4, 2010

I am just getting started with Ubuntu and love it so far. It has breathed new life into an old Compaq Presario V2000 and once I get up to speed on it I hope to start running it on all the rest of our machines.

The only major problem I am having is that none of the USB devices I have plugged in are being detected. From what I have seen online I should be getting a notification and should be able to view the devices at Places/Computer but so far, nothing. Googling this problem it appears that individual devices often don't work but I could not find anything on all USB devices not working.

Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong here?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: USB Headset Is Not Being Detected

Mar 4, 2010

I gotta say that Ubuntu 9.10 is a fantastic OS. I've been dual booting for about 4 years with Ubuntu and I want to scream to the world that Linux is finally a better OS than Mac or Windows. Having said that, I have an issue that I can't get around...

For some reason my USB headset is not being detected. I'm using the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 on a run-of-the-mill Intel-based desktop rig that I built myself. One of the mass-market programs that I still use is Skype so I can voice chat with friends and family - however, since the upgrade to 9.10 I can't get the mic to work (Plantronics USB headset - headset speakers work fine). The reason I can't get it to work is because the headset is not detected. The audio setting is set to "Analog Stereo Output" by default which does work perfectly in every other way.
