Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audio CDs Not Detected In 9.10?

Jan 16, 2010

If I put an Audio CD in my CD-ROM drive, then try to open Sound Juicer, I get an error saying that Sound Juicer cannot find any CD-ROM Drives to read. I can't rip my audio cd.

Similar attempts in K3b yielded similar results, albeit differently worded error messages.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Nvidia HDMI Audio Output Not Detected

Jul 25, 2011

I am interested in finding out the best way to get my audio to work from HDMI through my NVIDIA card.

[code]....

I don't get an option for HDMI. Here is the interesting part. The sounds work sometimes but not all the times. Most of the time the sound works on the OS default sounds but wont work for movies, streaming and music. I am running pulseaudio. I am new to setting this audio up. The headphones work fine.

Fedora Hardware :: VT1708S HD Audio Not Detected

I have been using Fedora on and off for a year now, and have decided to take the full plunge and install it as my sole OS. Nearly everything works, although I was noticing some issues with the audio so I decided to install the proper drivers.

I found them here: [URL]

Before I started this process I had a detected sound card in hardware and now it is gone - how do I restore it?

how to get it I am still learning the terminal commands.

General :: USB Audio Detected But Doesn't Work

May 3, 2011

you have an onboard soundcard that you have or may not have disabled in the BIOS, and you intend to use headphones with a USB sound card with headphone and microphone jacks (or no mic jack, it doesn't matter), but you notice that the headphones are detected. Alsamixer provides an interface to control the volume, etc etc, but still the headphones do not work..In my case, the module snd_hda_intel was being loaded for my onboard soundcard that I had disabled in the BIOS before booting the computer for the first time, and even though I tried to "activate" the USB headset in alsamixer, I still couldn't get the headset to work.

Solution as a trial: Open a terminal, and look to the code section for what you need to type.A big missing key to my puzzle is how to simply restart and/or reload a module so that it isn't necessary to unplug and plug back in the USB device. Can't I just re-discover the USB devices? (or other such hardware, such as a PCI card, or otherwise inaccessible component?)

All other CD's do get detected on the above mentioned platform on my laptop, but the 4 new Audio CD's I've brought do not get detected there.

By detection I mean:
i. No icon is shown on the desktop.
ii. ls -R /media/ shows nothing.

Those Audio CD's do get detected on a different laptop with OpenSuse 10.3 with Kde 3.5.7 on it !!

Kindly let me know if I need to give more information regarding the above problem.

General :: Audio Device Detected But Do Not Hear Sound

Feb 15, 2011

When I run the audio configuration I get:
The following audio device was detected:
Vendor: nVidia
Model Coporation GF100 High Definition Audio Controller
Module snd-hda-intel
but I do not hear sound.

The ALSA driver version is 1.0.14rc3
Lib package is: 1.0.17.-1.e15
Utils package is: 1.0.17-1.e15

The sound log has:
class: AUDIO
bus: PCI
detached: 0
driver: snd-hda-intel
desc: "nVidia Corporation GF100 High Definition Audio Controller" .....

The audio configuration sound test and the answer to the question No returns a message that says: automatic detection of sound card did not work. I am not sure what else is needed to diagnose the problem.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Audio Device Detected But Not Working

Feb 8, 2010

I am new to Linux and after a lot of research I settled on CentOS to be my OS for Linux. But I am having trouble with sound right now as I can not play audio. The command system-config-soundcard opened a gui for audio configuration saying following device is detected - Intel Corp. 82801(ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller.

Ouput for some commands are given below::
[root@localhost ~]# lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Memory Controller Hub (rev 07)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) .....

[root@localhost ~]# uname -r
2.6.18-164.el5
[root@localhost ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS release 5.4 (Final)

Clicking on the volume icon gives me message that either Gstreamer plugins are not installed or sound card is not configured.

While Trying to install gstreamer using YUM, I got following message:
[root@localhost ~]# yum install gstreamer
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile .....
Setting up Install Process
Package gstreamer-0.10.20-3.el5.x86_64 already installed and latest version
Package gstreamer-0.10.20-3.el5.i386 already installed and latest version
Nothing to do
[root@localhost ~]#

So I guess gstreamer are installed but how to configure the sound card or is there any other problem.

Hardware :: Onboard Audio Device Not Detected For ASUS P4S533 MB?

Mar 16, 2010

I recently installed Arch Linux on an old desktop machine. Everything works well except the onboard audio isn't detected at all.

I am using the 2.6.32-ARCH kernel

My lspci output is:

Code:
# lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS645DX Host & Memory & AGP Controller
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] Virtual PCI-to-PCI bridge (AGP)

[Code]....

On another note, the manufacturer (ASUS) actually provides Linux audio drivers for my motherboard (model: P4S533). I attempted to install them, but the configuration process involves using make menuconfig, make xconfig, or make config to add the drivers to the kernel (I think) and I'm still a relatively new Linux user and had no clue what I was doing.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: 11.1 Updates To Pulse Audio In Gnome Improve Audio Functionality ?

Oct 17, 2010

I'm thinking of installing openSUSE-11.1 Gnome on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M laptop because the wireless in Gnome is much more user friendly than KDE3/KDE4 in openSUSE-11.1. The idea is to give this laptop to my 84-year old mother and things need to 'just work' for her (she currently has a desktop running openSUSE-11.1 KDE3 that uses a WIRED interface to the web).

I refuse to update this laptop to openSUSE-11.2 nor 11.3 (nor other recent distributions) because every kernel update after the 2.6.27 kernel has broken the Intel i855GM graphics drivers for that laptop. There are many bug reports and none have fixed the problem for this Fujitsu-Siemens implementation of the i855GM graphics.

Hence I am looking at Gnome.

I booted the laptop to a Gnome openSUSE-11.1 liveCD and wireless is easy and works great. But audio is very very VERY bad. It is incredibly user unfriendly and it does NOT work well. I assume that is because pulse audio in openSUSE-11.1 was very immature.

I note these updated packages in the openSUSE-11.1 update repository:

Code:

So my question is, did the updates to pulse audio (in the openSUSE-11.1 update repository) fix the pulse audio situation? Are there ANY helpful views on this?

Currently my wife is using this laptop with KDE-4.4.4 (and openSUSE-11.1) so I can't just install Gnome and play with it without taking the laptop away from her for a while (note the hard drive is too small for a dual boot of KDE/Gnome).

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Audio Choppy - Can't Play Any Audio With Amarok When Desktop Effects Are Enabled

Jun 7, 2011

to start off, i'll post the specs of the machine:

dell inspiron e1505
3.2 gb ram
1.86 ghz intel core duo
ati x1400 gfx
opensuse 11.4 kde 32 bit.

okay, here are the details: can't play any audio with amarok when desktop effects are enabled because the minute a window is moved, it will distort the audio. even when disabling desktop effects, some applications still cause this. can't play videos videos even with desktop effects disabled because of the same reason.

i just switched from ubuntu and when i ran version 11.04, i had to disable kms to do anything. i tried on opensuse 11.4 and the audio was flawless but the gfx went all to hell.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: M-Audio Delta 66 And ATI HD Audio?

Jun 1, 2010

I am having some issues with getting Ubuntu Studio 10.04 to work correctly on my system. Everything works fine except sound. I have a M-Audio Delta 66 audio interface and my onboard sound is disabled. When I run the command alsaconf I can see the ICE1712 card without issue. However when I run alsamixer the only option it is giving me is my HD sound from my ATI video card. For some reason it seems the ATI card has locked the audio to it with no way to remove it. I have reinstalled the alsa drivers for my card and can only see it through alsaconf. When I tell alsaconf to configure the ICE1712 card it says it configured it properly. When I run the command envy24control it says no ICE1712 cards were found.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Flv Video + Audio To Ogg Audio Only?

Dec 22, 2010

Is there an application that anyone knows about that I can use to convert either an .flv or .ogg file that contains both audio and video to just an audio .ogg file (preferably vorbis+theora) without audacity? I'm fairly certain audacity could accomplish this but it seems like overkill for what I'm trying to do and the computer I'm trying to use does not run it so well.

::EDIT:: I should also mention that I've tried looking on google. I did find downloadhelper extension for firefox which uses ffmpeg to convert the files but I don't see any obvious way to strip the video.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: USB Headset Is Not Being Detected

Mar 4, 2010

I gotta say that Ubuntu 9.10 is a fantastic OS. I've been dual booting for about 4 years with Ubuntu and I want to scream to the world that Linux is finally a better OS than Mac or Windows. Having said that, I have an issue that I can't get around...

For some reason my USB headset is not being detected. I'm using the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 on a run-of-the-mill Intel-based desktop rig that I built myself. One of the mass-market programs that I still use is Skype so I can voice chat with friends and family - however, since the upgrade to 9.10 I can't get the mic to work (Plantronics USB headset - headset speakers work fine). The reason I can't get it to work is because the headset is not detected. The audio setting is set to "Analog Stereo Output" by default which does work perfectly in every other way.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: USB Microphone Not Detected

Jun 19, 2011

I'm using Kubuntu 10.04. I've got a Samson Q1U usb microphone I want to use in Audacity for recording.

Unfortunatly, the microphone isn't registering on my computer.

I can use a usb mouse on the usb port, so I think the port works and the microphone worked on my friends PC, so the mic is fine.

When I plug it in the light on the microphone goes on for about 10 seconds then goes off.

Here's some output:

And the following, showing my ports:

The microphone is not showing up on either...

I was using the microphone fine a couple years ago with audacity, I think I was on Hardy Heron at the time (not that the upgrade to lucid was necessarily was what did it...) I haven't changed any hardware since then besides adding a little additional ram.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.04 Only 1 Video Device Detected?

May 8, 2010

some days ago I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and now I have a problem with my webcam. I like to use chatroulette and mebeam, therefore I have to use programs like webcamstudio/flashcam... (Flash does not accept the normal cam device v4l2 and webcamstudio puts it to v4l loopback). The problem is that Ubuntu is detecting only v4l2 and not v4l, so that I don't have an output device in webcamstudio.

When I type:
ls -l /dev/video*
the answer is only:
crw-rw----+ 1 root video 81, 0 2010-05-08 17:59 /dev/video0
and nothing more

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Card Is Not Detected

Jul 17, 2010

I am attempting to get ubuntu working on my system.I have tried on previous systems without success, hopefully it works out this time.Currently my only major issue with it is I cannot get any sounds to play.I use a Logitech G35 usb headset and onboard audio (GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard, Realtek ALC892 audio chipset).Ideally, I'd like to be able to listen from either source, though just getting one working would be great.Ubuntu is currently not detecting any sound.

Using aplay -l, it said no sound card found. Using lspci -v, so sound devices were listed.I am a complete noob to ubuntu, I had to research to figure out what to do with 'aplay -l' (Application -> Accessories -> Terminal, type command in terminal). My Windows troubleshooting skills seem largely useless in a Linux environment.
