Ubuntu :: Bottom Panel - Showing Open Programs Twice

May 8, 2010

Lucid now has a 'feature' of clogging up the bottom panel, showing open programs twice [normal mode, on the left, compact mode on the right], can this be disabled?

I've attached a screenshot of what I mean, in case I'm not completely clear: see the compact open program thingy's right next to the workspace switcher.

Ubuntu :: Showing All Open Programs On Bottom Toolbar?

Aug 20, 2010

Take a look at my picture to understand what I'm talking about. I have a bunch of programs open right now and I can't see the name of the programs on my toolbar. Is there hopefully a way to see all open programs on your toolbar when this happens?

In windows OS's when you have multiple windows from the same program open they group themselves together, and on MAC OS's they have a toolbar that you can easily scroll through.

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 - 8.04LTS And 10.04LTS Have A Pre-installed NIC Driver That Is Not Compatible With The Bcm5705?

May 7, 2010

I attempted a distribution upgrade from 8.04LTS (32 bit) to 10.04LTS (32 bit). Once converted, I had no wireless or wired internet, along with numerous other bugs. After relentless hours of trying to resolve the problems, I converted back to 8.04LTS and installed the b43 drivers; I have wireless, however, still no wired connection. I've provided the outputs of the "sudo lshw -C network" terminal command below both before conversion to 10.04 and after reversion back to 8.04LTS. You'll notice that the NIC is not even listed after reversion (this is the same output that 10.04LTS gave me as well).

1.) Does anyone know if the terminal command will identify the NIC if the NIC Driver (assuming it's tg3) is not installed?

2.) Does 8.04LTS and 10.04LTS have a pre-installed NIC driver that is not compatible with the bcm5705?

Ubuntu :: Mouse Cursor / Video Corrupted After Upgrade From 8.04LTS To 10.04LTS

May 30, 2010

I've recently upgraded from 8.04LTS to 10.04LTS. About 90% of the time after boot-up, my mouse cursor seems to be corrupted; I can vaguely see the arrow (or part of it anyway) underneath some squiggly lines. The application KeePassX is affected too; there are some display corruption issues. Sometimes (maybe 1 boot in 10) the mouse cursor looks fine. I have a Radeon 9200 and have looked in the Forum for similar problems but they don't quite match up to mine.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 (64bit) Open Programs Not Appear In Bottom Panel

May 15, 2010

I just freshly installed 10.04 (migrated from 9.10), and the first thing I noticed is that in my bottom panel, the applications crashed ("quit unexpectedly") right after the first boot: the workspace switcher simply disappeared when I tried to change its preferences, and "Show Desktop" crashed without me doing anything (I got the little popup window that allowed me to reload or not). Now, I reloaded them and they're there, but none of my open programs appear in the bottom panel.

Fedora :: Cannot Click Icons At The Bottom Of Programs?

Mar 26, 2010

I encountered a problem clicking icons at the bottom of programs. An example: I was in Firefox and went to use the 'find' bar at the bottom Firefox application window. However, I couldn't click on it.I could interact with it through keyboard commands, but not by using the mouse. Later that day I tried using Openoffice.org Writer and when I went to click on a toolbar at the bottom of the application window I couldn't choose any of the icons with the mouse... The odd thing is that this only occurs when the bottom of the window is at the lowest point on the screen.(note: I have Avant Window Navigator running, so it isn't literally the bottom of the screen, just the lowest point the window can go.)Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing the problem, or maybe how to fix it---------- Post added at 10:25 PM CDT ---------- Previous post was at 09:42 PM CDT ----I just figured out that AWN is causing the problem. Apparently it's regulating more area than it's supposed to. So it's cutting off interaction with the bottom of the window.

General :: Multiple Monitors - Make Open Programs Appear In Taskbar ?

Aug 4, 2010

Normally when a program is open an entry is placed on the taskbar in order to easily find it, which is useful when a lot of programs are open. In Ubuntu 10.04, when I moved a program to the other monitor (I'm using 2 monitors) the taskbar entry also moves to the taskbar on that monitor.

Now I switched over to Ultimate Edition, which is Ubuntu 10.04 with a lot of stuff added to it. When I drag a program to the other monitor, the entry in the taskbar disappears, but it does not reappear in the taskbar of the other monitor. So now the only way for me to find a program on this monitor if its hidden behind other windows is to use alt-tab.

Ubuntu :: Programs --> Accessories Not Showing Up?

Aug 28, 2010

I had a version of wine prior of 1.2 (I think it was 1.0.1) installed in my Ubuntu 9.04 operating system and decided to upgrade to version 1.2 I checked some forums on the net and one of them recommended to remove wine using the following command in terminal sudo apt-get remove wine then I should remove the .wine folder in my home directory rm -rf .wine and finallly the said I had to remove the wine entry in the Applications menu, so I did by going to System--->Preferences--->Main Menu After following these instructions, I installed version 1.2 without any problems but now I see that under Applications--->Wine I lost the entry for the Programs --> Accessories ---> Notepad feature (please take a look of the screenshot)Did I do something wrong?I asked this same question in the Wine Forum, and they said I had to ask Ubuntu team about this issue since Wine by itself does not install any menu entries for its own build-in programs

Ubuntu :: Synaptic Does Not Recognize Password & Add/remove Programs Not Showing Up?

Feb 3, 2010

I've just did a fresh install of Xubuntu 9.10 x86 in a 4 gig pendrive.Just one ext4 partition for / and /home and a swap partition. Only one user created during installation.Everything's fine so far except for two things:-If I launch synaptic from the start menu, it asks for my password which I type in or even copy-paste to be sure.Strangely it always comes back saying incorrect password. If I open a terminal and call "sudo synaptic" and type in my password when prompted, the application shows up fine. Again if I do the same via the Run dialog (alt+F2), that is "sudo synaptic", nothing comes up. If I just type "synaptic", a pop up says that as a user I won't be able to install anything and blah-blah, and the application displays properly

Ubuntu :: Monitor Off Center - Bottom Of Tool-bar On The Bottom Of The Screen Is Cut Off

May 22, 2010

So about an hour ago I put my computer on standby. For whatever reason I couldn't bring it back so I restarted it. It works fine except now Ubuntu has pushed my display down. This means that the bottom of my tool-bar on the bottom of the screen is cut off, and there's a black bar on the top. I'm using a T.V. screen so there is no way I can manually adjust it. I also plugged my desktop back into an old monitor and it was off-center downward too.
