CentOS 5 :: Adding Newest Version Of RRDtool To Repository?
Feb 15, 2011
Can I ask if it is possible to add the newest version of rrdtool to CentOS repositories? Now I'm using 1.3.8 but there is already 1.4.5. We have some policy so I'm not able to install it not via repo way...
My procedure for updating the installed packages was, to klick on the list of packages that are installed in the installation source @ system in YAST and choose "Update if newer version is available". Up to Suse 11.3 Yast automatically chooses the latest version from each available repository that is installed (eg, Packman or Mozilla Build Service). With 11.4 however, I noticed that it only updates a package, if a newer version is avalible in the repository from which the package originally origines. Since I don't want to look through 4 GB of packages manually, whether there are newer versions in another repository available, I ask you if I there is a posibility to get the old behavior of YAST back.
Which LXDE version of Linux has the newest version of Firefox and Open Office included?
I am looking for an iso file, and I am trying to run this off of a live CD for now. So I want a light version of Linux, probably LXDE, or if not, then probably XFCE. But I need a new version of Firefox and OpenOffice included.
Because, I tried burning the customizable NimbleX @ custom.nimblex.net . Pretty good, except it uses Firefox 2, and Open Office 2.3, which are outdated.
And I tried Mint XFCE, which might have been pretty good too, but it had some issue of blanking and requiring relogin after I opened hotmail frequently (user id: mint, password: blank).
The web browser and the word processing program are the most important and essential applications to me.
So are there any Linux versions in LXDE on LiveCD that include newer versions of Firefox (or at least another good browser) and Open Office (oo seems better than abi)? (Again, if no LXDE, perhaps XFCE?)
I just want to download a good version in an iso file, and burn it to a CD and get to work. Like I said the web browser and the word processing program are all important.
So really, what iso/LiveCD versions are the fastest for running on an older system, and yet have the newest browser and word processor included?

After playing with various Linux distributions over the past 3 weeks (mostly Ubuntu) I decided on Fedora as the keeper. However, when it comes to linux I'm about as green as they come. I installed KDE Fedora today and managed to get Firefox and Flash installed without much trouble. However, I'm trying to download the newest version of Thunderbird but after a lot of looking, how to do it.
I downloaded the latest ClamAV (clamav-0.96-27.1.x86_64.rpm) from the opensuse ftp site and when i double-click on the RPM and choose 'install' it says this:[PK_TMP_DIR|dir:///var/tmp/TmpDir.h1Oz1u] Repository already exists.I looked in the software manager in opensuse to see if it has the latest ClamAV package but it doesn't have the latest package or any package of ClamAV.
I tried to delete Ubuntu (the newest version, the only one OS on my PC) and install XP after that. I booted from USB and deleted one partition that contained Linux (formated it to ntfs) files using gparted. When I wanted to boot from Windows installation CD, i got the following message:Unknown file system:Grub rescue> I dont know how to proced with installation of XP, it seems it can not boot from my CD.

I wanted to add a repository so I took the steps of zypper ar -f ((repo directory)) and got:
Code: zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.4 If only one argument is used, it must be a URI pointing to a .repo file. addrepo (ar) [options] <URI> <alias> addrepo (ar) [options] <file.repo>
I was using Kbibtex under 11.2 on my Lenovo (32-bit) but YaST does not find it now that I have upgraded to 11.3. Perhaps it is as simple a matter as adding another repository. Can anyone clarify for me?
I just purchased openSUSE 11.2 x64 on DVD from osdisc.com, as well as the 5 x64 repository DVD's. The base install went fine, but when I try to add thos's to my software repositories using yast they all have the same listed name, "repository" - I can change that to show "repository disk 1" etc, but when I go to install stuff and the software installer asks for "repository disk 1" I put that in the dvd drive, and it cannot recognise it, spits it out and asks for the same disk again...hmmmm. Should I not change the default name that comes up when each DVD is added to the list? If I leave them unchanged will I be told which is the correct disk to insert, remembering that in the list they all have the same name
I have a Fedora 12 and OpenSuse DVD with me. It consists of lots of packages and hence to install these packages I don't have to download them. What I want to do is copy the package folder on my local machine and then add them as repository in Synaptic Packet Manager.
OS: Centos 5.5_x86 I've searched quite a bit for how to set up Java environment variables with the newest java JDK. I installed java using the following commands: yum groupinstall "java development" (I need it for the application I am trying to run) yum install "java" I have them both installed however I can't seem to get java to function. The application I am trying to run requires that I set java environment variables any solutions?
