I've had a problem doing updates to Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic for months. I'd like to upgrade, but figure I should solve the update issue first. The output of "apt-get update" is:
Every time I try to update Ubuntu via the Update manager, I get the following error messages. W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used.GPG error: [URL] stable Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY A2019EA84E7532C8 W: Failed to fetch [URL] W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I already tried sudo apt-get update: Code: W: A error occurred during the signature verification. when i was updating my ubuntu 10.04 using update manager i got the error"W.A error occurred during the signature verification.the post is not updated and teh previous index files are used .GPG error: http://deb.playonlinux.com lucid release.
For the past four or so days there have been a few updates for my system (32bit Karmic). I tried ignoring it at first to see if it would go away, but this is the third time I've seen these error messages. Apt Authentication issue
Problem during package list update. The package list update failed with a authentication failure. This usually happens behind a network proxy server. Please try to click on the "Run this action now" button to correct the problem or update the list manually by running Update Manager and clicking on "Check". I click the "Run this action now" button and I get a second error,
W: A error occurred during the signature verification. Recently, after upgrading from FC11 to FC14 I checked my bluray burner (relevant lines from dmesg):
[code]...
got empty output, which means: all files are identical. I can set the post-write verification to "off" but I prefer it "on" when backing up important data. Does this error familiar? how to solve it or, at least, where to look for messages that might have a hint as to what's wrong
I receive these messages after I enter my user_id and password in Ubuntu 9.04;
"An error occured while loading or saving configuration information for update notifier. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly." then clicking on details box this can be seen;- {Failed to connect configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBIT, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Could not send message to gconf daemon: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus))}
then there's another error message;
"An error occured while loading or saving configuration information for evolution-alarm-notify. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly." then clicking on details box this can be seen;- {Failed to connect configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBIT, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. I'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on xp,but, after waiting around 2 hours per instalation I received a error message that says:" unbuntu installer : and error occurred: coercing to unicode: need string or buffer, none Type found. for more information see log file C:1customerlocals-1 empwubi-10.10-rev197.109. I tried on one particion make just for it then I even tried on xp on C: I even put it on a pendrive but my bios is old and do not provide for usb booting. The other thing I have to try is making a boot cd but for one reason or the other , my recorder do not want to recornized my cds- rw and right now I do not have any regular blank cds . That will be my next step. Note: Ubuntu appears installed on the the control panel "add or removed programs" but not in "all programs" list. I'm a novice on this so maybe the answer was posted but I couldn't find it. Looking ahead to try it and be part of the linux team.
Whenever I try to change a user full name, through System / Administration / Users and Groups, I get the following error: The configuration could not be saved - An unknown error occurred. Running Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS 64 bit, freshly installed.

I have a fairly old computer, (4 years) it is has an Intel Pentium 4 3,4 Ghz processor with 1,5Gb RAM, and had been running XP Home on a 80Gb HDD. About three weeks ago, I purchased a 500Gb HDD, and disconnected my old drive. I partitioned the new drive to 120 Gb and 380Gb. I put XP Pro on the 120Gb partition, and Ubuntu 9.10 on the balance.
On reboot, startup menu (grub?) gave me the option to boot from, among others, Ubuntu 9.10, and XP Pro. Both worked fine! I then reconnected the old drive, and if I wanted to boot up in XP Home, would tap "F8" on start-up, and select the old HDD to boot from. This was working fine and I was happy with the way it worked! This morning, when I re-booted, the Start-up menu now had XP Home added to the list.
If I select either Ubuntu 9.10 or XP Home, they both work fine, but if I select XP Pro, it give me the message "error: invalid signature" and when I press any key, brings me back to the menu.
From four days each time I reload Synaptic, I got the following error:
Code: W: Failed to fetch [URL]. Could not resolve 'repository.cairo-dock.org' W: Failed to fetch [URL]. Could not resolve 'repository.cairo-dock.org' W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I can not understand what is it. Is it a temporary network problem? What I have to do?
When I start my system up(ubuntu 10.04) it gets to "ubuntu" loading animation then displays "An error occurred while mounting 0, Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery". I've read many threads and tried different things but nothing seems to be working! heres my blkid output:

I had been running a dual boot windows XP & Ubuntu. Graboid worked in both systems. I have now got rid of windows, upgraded to 10.10 I installed wine, winetricks & dotnet20, but when I click on my downloaded Graboid.exe file I get the following error: Command line output code...
Trying to burn a DVD full of media and I keep getting errors on both above programs. Here is the error oupout I get from Brasero:
Code:

Session error : An error occurred while writing to disc (brasero_burn_record brasero-burn.c:2862) Anyone know what I can do to fix this and get things up and running again? Would like to be burning to DVD's again. Running 11.04 and also had the same problem with 10.04.
My system is playing CD's fine but I just tried a DVD (non-BluRay) and I get that error! I have googled about and though I already had the ubuntu-restricted-packages I didn't have all the gstreamer0.10plugins-bad installed (as seems to be the recommended fix). I now have them and MoviePlayer still gives the same error. I also want BluRay's to be playable and I was investigating that when I thought I would check whether normal DVD's were still working (I'm not sure whether I've tried a DVD since I upgraded to MM). The DVD mounts ok and appears on my desktop with the title.
I just installed Ubuntu. I like it so far. After installing like 10 apps, I started getting this error: Quote: An unhandlable error occured There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks. I'm using with success NX server and client on Ubuntu 11.04 on both side. Yesterday the server crashed and now the client can't connect to it. The client works well because if I try to connect to an other server it works well and if I try to connect to this server with an other user it works well. So I think that there is a problem with my user. I have tried to solve the problem as explained in the details of the error. Unfortunately there is no file /var/log/messages so I can't search the code of the exception.
