Apt Authentication issue
Problem during package list update. The package list update failed with a authentication failure. This usually happens behind a network proxy server. Please try to click on the "Run this action now" button to correct the problem or update the list manually by running Update Manager and clicking on "Check". I took the distribution upgrade from the update manager and can't boot now. Boot into a Live CD (ver. 9.10 - does that matter?), and go through the following steps.

Details:Using wubi, just installed 2 weeks ago did an upgrade and got a grub command line "sh:grub>" dealI set the root of everything to my hard drive, and when I told it where the root.disk was located it says "error: fixup signature not match"
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly old computer, (4 years) it is has an Intel Pentium 4 3,4 Ghz processor with 1,5Gb RAM, and had been running XP Home on a 80Gb HDD. About three weeks ago, I purchased a 500Gb HDD, and disconnected my old drive. I partitioned the new drive to 120 Gb and 380Gb. I put XP Pro on the 120Gb partition, and Ubuntu 9.10 on the balance.
On reboot, startup menu (grub?) gave me the option to boot from, among others, Ubuntu 9.10, and XP Pro. Both worked fine! I then reconnected the old drive, and if I wanted to boot up in XP Home, would tap "F8" on start-up, and select the old HDD to boot from. This was working fine and I was happy with the way it worked! This morning, when I re-booted, the Start-up menu now had XP Home added to the list.
If I select either Ubuntu 9.10 or XP Home, they both work fine, but if I select XP Pro, it give me the message "error: invalid signature" and when I press any key, brings me back to the menu.
I upgraded my server yesterday via apt-get and my Perl scripts are not able to make HTTPS connections due to certificate verification problems.
This seems to be a problem for EVERY HTTPS site.
CURL gives the following error:

I know that this has something to do with root certificate updates, but if I sound ignorant about it, it's because I am.
using CURL with the -k option allows the connection to be made.
I'm running OpenSSl 1.0.1k-3+deb8u2 on Jessie 8.2.
I would obviously prefer to not disable certificate verification on my server.
I was using 2.6.28-14 kernel version, it update me to 2.6.28-15. Now I have upgraded kernels many times, not first timer, but this is a first to me. So I have this wierd system setup, don't ask. Where I use lilo instead of grub, just take it as it comes guys, I have to. At any rate, it upgraded all fine, and I restarted, play the blues I got a "No setup signature found" error and lilo won't boot. So I did some searching on web and everyone says to boot up CD and re-install lilo. Well with grub I've done this many times, no prob bob, but lilo won't work.
So I used my super auto grub CD to try to re-do things. Since grub config and grub was still installed on my Linux partition I tried it right. No go of course, grub says it can't find the partition nor can it mount it. So I tried the beta of lilo on the grub cd and it don't work either. Botched it up worse, first it wouldn't do anything on my second drive, just sat there black screen. Then I did it a second time, let's screw it up some more right. Now it doesn't even find a boot loader in the MBR ha ha.
So at any rate, how in the sam heck do I fix this thing? Short of downloading 10.04 and re-installing everything?? Don't want to do this, too much work when I can just upgrade and keep my stuff installed and setup. So I tried running jaunty from CD and re-loading lilo. So everything is working fine right, I mounted drive and apt-get install lilo and ran lilo. So lilo even telling it what config file to use and where won't find things and won't re-install. So just for grins, even though I thought it wouldn't work I mounted my second drive linux partition, the one with the boot info on it, you ready, to root "/". Then I couldn't unmount

I have moved from MS directX to OpenGL on Linux Debian. My computer is running Jessie version with Gimp. I am trying to use several of the gl 4.0 functions but getting compiler error. I just bought a recently-released Toshiba CB35-B3340 Chromebook, and I'm trying to install Debian on it (I want to wipe out CrOS and give all harddrive space to Debian). However, I'm having problems booting from USB. When I press Ctrl+U at boot, the screen flashes back, the computer beeps, and I'm brought back to the same "OS Verification is Off" screen. If I press Ctrl+L to get to what is supposed to be the SeaBios screen, the computer beeps twice and nothing else happens.
I followed steps 1-4 and 8 of this guide: [URL] .... and I just downloaded the amd64 netinstall image from the Debian website and dd'd it to the USB stick.
I've tried two different USB sticks and successfully booted another computer from them, but neither work on the Chromebook. I've also tried both USB ports, since I've heard some Chromebooks can only boot from one, but to no avail.
I have looked into things like ChrUbuntu and crouton, but they look like they just set up a dual-boot or chroot system. I want neither of these, my goal being to have a normal Linux laptop at the end.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 on my machine which already has Windows 7 (I want to be able to dual-boot). I had no problems installing Ubuntu but now I cannot boot Windows, I get this error after selecting Windows in the Grub boot menu:

When I press a key I'm returned to the Grub menu. There I can boot Linux without problems. I have two 500 GB disks in a RAID 1 array. Windows 7 is installed there. Then I have a 1.5 TB disk where I installed Linux in a partition I created for it. I think the problem may be that I have RAID because this seems to show up as two disks and not one:

Three disks and not two.

I dont know what to do about getting it downloaded. I never had this problem downloading this game on windows.
I have /dev/sda with Squeeze and Win 7 on it, and /dev/sdb with Squeeze. I've managed to get Grub 2 to boot from /dev/sdb1, but only by disabling /dev/sda from being a boot option in the BIOS. When it is available to boot, and lower priority than /dev/sdb, grub does not recognize the UUIds of the disks. So, I've disabled it for now and can boot from /dev/sdb no problems. Trouble is I cannot get Win7 to boot. Grub prints:

When I boot into Squeeze and run 'blkid' I can see that:

I don't understand how Grub 2 cannot recognize the UUIds. Can Grub 2 to be made to work with volume labels or just plain old /dev/... descriptions? Maybe I should give grub-legacy a go.
I was trying to update from 9.04 to 9.10.
During the installation, I kept getting tons of errors. Finally something came up saying that I had to abort the installation and it did some stuff. I tried running an application, but I got an error. So I restarted the system.
The normal screen came up where I had to choose the Ubuntu stuff (I'm new to Ubuntu) in the box. I noticed that it had gone to 8.10... which I had earlier before installing 9.04, which went great. So I chose the first on and the system failed to start. I rebooted and tried all the other options, but they all had errors. Now I'm booted to Windows.
I installed Ubuntu from a CD I created. But it is now outdated because it is 8.10, and I have already upgraded to 9.04. 9.04 to 9.10 is where stuff went wrong.
