I tried to install ubuntu 9.04 from wubi in windows 7 ultimate today. But it failed. I met a problem when installing: An error has occurred setting the element data. The request is not supported. The detailed information in installation log file is:

The request is not supported. I tried to use bcdedit /set <GUID> device partition=I: manually, but still have the same error.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu on Windows XP as a dual boot using Wubi, but whenever I try to install it I get an error message that says: An error occurred: Permission denied For more information, please see the log file: c:docume-1lanzarolocals-1 empwubi-10.04.1-rev190.log Does anyone know what this means and if I can fix it?
I have 2 hard drives on mu box 1st one is 500.0 MB ext4 Volume where I have my syste FC 13 and a 2nd one where I put my database files as follows 78.1 GB ext4 Volume usage = filesystem, format ext4
ih file browser, I can see an icon for a 80GB hard drive but whenever I double click I get the following
Quote:

clicking details
Quote:
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error
when I type

What is very strange is that mysql works fine.In disk utility, it indicates that disk is healthy, but when I click check file system i get
File system check on "data" (Partition 1 of ATA MAXTOR STM380215A) completed File system is NOT clean
I am having some problems uninstalling wubi. Its not in the uninstall programs or coming up and a boot option when i boot my computer anymore. So i went out and downloaded the newest version, and tried to install it. Cause i thought that it had been removed maybe by anti-virus or something. When i clicked on it to install it said i had a previous version that i had to uninstall. So i clicked OK. It started to uninstall and then i got an error message. I tried it again and got the some error message.
I'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on xp,but, after waiting around 2 hours per instalation I received a error message that says:" unbuntu installer : and error occurred: coercing to unicode: need string or buffer, none Type found. for more information see log file C:1customerlocals-1 empwubi-10.10-rev197.109. I tried on one particion make just for it then I even tried on xp on C: I even put it on a pendrive but my bios is old and do not provide for usb booting. The other thing I have to try is making a boot cd but for one reason or the other , my recorder do not want to recornized my cds- rw and right now I do not have any regular blank cds . That will be my next step. Note: Ubuntu appears installed on the the control panel "add or removed programs" but not in "all programs" list. I'm a novice on this so maybe the answer was posted but I couldn't find it. Looking ahead to try it and be part of the linux team.
I tried to install last Ubuntu distribution (11.04) in a laptop that fits setup requirements. I downloaded de Iso, burnt on cd and restart the laptop with the cd inside it.The hard disk does not have any partition, it's empty, I suppose installation gives that opcion.At the begining of the installation, before any interactivity, I get this error:
I understand this is a common problem but i can't seem to find a solution for it other than use gparted to partition your hard drive and install directly to the hard drive.
I am trying to load 10.10 through the wubi installer. I want to install the 64 bit version of ubuntu. My windows OS is 64 bit as well.
I download the wubi online and when i run it i get through the first step of picking how large i want the hard drive and my sudo password. I click next and it goes to download the 10.10 x64 ISO. After about 10 sec a firewall alert comes up and i say allow then right after that the wubi crashes and i get an error log that i will post below saying i dont have permissions. Ive also tried using the right click "run as administrator" option on the wubi from windows 7.
Ive also tried downloading the ubuntu 10.10 x64 desktop iso. i extracted it using winrar then ran the wubi that comes with that and i get the same issue. I find it funny that when your run the wubi from the install disk it still downloads another copy of the iso instead of asking for its location on your hard drive.
I like the concept of the wubi and i had previously installed 10.04 through the wubi and loved it. I had an issue with 10.04 after doing a lot of tweaking and I simply wanted to just remove it and install 10.10 fresh. I'm strictly using ubuntu for experimental and learning purposes so i dont want to install it directly to my hard drive.
I wanted to install ubuntu via wubi, but i had to format my partitions (can't do it on wubi ) so i used a crappy program(i don't remember the name) to get rid of Backtrack4 , because i wanted windows kept for my mom.So, that was the sorry, i've ended up with a GRUB error 22, and a Backtrack4 CD stuck in my DVD-rom.So my question is: Can somewone tell me how to fix error 22? (i've seen some methods online, but i obviously can't put a Windows CD in my DVD rom because the Backtrack4 DVD is stuck in there.
I used proprietary software (acronis trueimage) to clone an Opensuse 11.1 machine, onto another machine with somewhat distinct hardware (different motherboard, less memory). I expected to have to change entries in /boot/grub/menu.lst, /etc/fstab, etc. I was told a good way to do this was to use the Opensuse DVD's "repair installed system" feature.
When I ran the repair, I was informed that "bootloader configuration file contains errors". I attempted to re-install the bootloader, but received this unhelpful error: "An error occurred during boot loader installation. Retry boot loader configuration?". When I boot the system, I just see the text "GRUB ", followed by a flashing underscore character.
might cry soon, had so many problems and still nothing latest problem when installing sorry and error occured and it was not possible to install the boot loader at the specified location.
I receive these messages after I enter my user_id and password in Ubuntu 9.04;
"An error occured while loading or saving configuration information for update notifier. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly." then clicking on details box this can be seen;- {Failed to connect configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBIT, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Could not send message to gconf daemon: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus))}
then there's another error message;
"An error occured while loading or saving configuration information for evolution-alarm-notify. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly." then clicking on details box this can be seen;- {Failed to connect configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBIT, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. Whenever I try to change a user full name, through System / Administration / Users and Groups, I get the following error: The configuration could not be saved - An unknown error occurred. Running Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS 64 bit, freshly installed.
I just installed Ubuntu. I like it so far. After installing like 10 apps, I started getting this error: Quote: An unhandlable error occured There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks. I am facing the following error while running the newly installed software ZEKR. I have already installed the latest version of Java.
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no pulse-java in java.library.path at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(ClassLoader.java :1681) at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Runtime.java:840)

I just installed Fedora 12 and while I was trying to install Skype, there was a system crash and since then I cannot install any other software or cannot even access 'add/remove software'. Whenever I try to install a software or try to open the 'add/remove software' or, 'Software Updates' I get the message 'An internal system error has occured'. and inside it contains this-
Code: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py", line 2956, in __init__ self.repos.confirm_func = self._repo_gpg_confirm File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/__init__.py", line 717, in <lambda> repos = property(fget=lambda self: self._getRepos(), File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/__init__.py", line 496, in _getRepos self.conf # touch the config class first .....
I tried these using the terminal- yum clean all yum metadata sudo yum clean all yum clean metadata and all of these gave me the same result-
Code: Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit Config Error: File contains no section headers. file: file://///etc/yum.repos.d/skype.repo, line: 1 "su -c 'yum -y install skype' " Everything else is working fine, but I just can not install or update any more software.
I've had a problem doing updates to Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic for months. I'd like to upgrade, but figure I should solve the update issue first. The output of "apt-get update" is:
I have just tried to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.10 from 10.04 using the update manager
It asks me for me password and then a window opens saying "Upgrading Ubuntu to version 10.10"
It gets to "setting new software channels" then a message pops up saying "third party sources disabled" next a little error icon appears in the Notification Area then another message saying: Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
This can be caused by: -Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu -Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu -Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.
Gives error message permission denied. I've seen this in your forums but I still haven't found the fix. I've tried the latest release Wubi downloader too. This one is ran from a CD. Version 10.04
I have a backup of /oracle in redhat linux advance server 2.1,i have taken that backup by tar -cvzf command when untar this backup by tar -xvzf command the following error occurred-"Error exist delayed from previous error"
I switched from Ubuntu to Fedora and I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding why I cannot update my system. Fedora seems to be a little bit more complicated than Ubuntu to update and to do other things... I'm still willing to try it because it has a good reputation and good reviews so I will go ahead and give it a shot but before I do that I need to update it. I have an HP pavilion notebook dv2000. Just installed Fedora 15 and my system is telling me that I have over 700 updates! when I click on install updates I get an error:
Transaction error An unspecified transaction error has occurred. More information is available on the detailed report. Then on the details this is what I get:
This Windows installer (Wubi) will help you to run Ubuntu within your current system.
What exactly is meant my this? Does this mean it is an easier way to install the dual boot with Windows? (I am using Windows-7 on a new PC.) Or does it mean it will install Ubuntu under Windows? I assumed it meant the latter.
In any case, I downloaded it - a mere 1024K, scanned it and ran it. I get a stubborn error box with the message:
Quote:
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive
And that box will not go away - no matter what I press, including the [X] button in the upper corner, the box reappears. I had to go into Process Explorer to kill pyrun.exe and its parent, pyl5E39.tmp.exe before the [Cancel] button would close it for good.
I could not find doc on this so I don't know what it really wants as a prerequisite to running wubi.
I have insatalled Kubuntu using wubi (in windows). But when I am running Kubuntu it is showing the following error. try(hd0,0) : FAT16 : NO WUBLDIR try(hd0,1) : NTFS35 : NO wubldir try(hd0,3) : NTFS35 : What should I do???
I'm emulating Ubuntu using VMWare and I've upgraded it to Maverick version. When I boot the system I get this error (below the Ubuntu logo): "an error occurred while mounting /mnt/hgfs" I have to click S to continue and the the OS seems to work well.
