So, I've got an Acer 5742G, and the silly thing is only built with one internal speaker. Ubuntu thinks it's my left channel, however Windows 7 'gets it' and plays both channels to that speaker.When I plug in external speakers or headphones, everything works fine.
View 3 RepliesFor a couple of days ago, maybe a week or two I beguinne to get a 'snap-sound' in my compurt sound, like an eletrick charge or someting. I comes with about a minutes period. I resently find out that it came from the center-speaker. I run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and have this sound-card: 00:09.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP73 High Definition Audio (rev a1)
My speaker system is Logitech X-530 I have located the problem to center-speaker, but the snap-sound only disappear if I mute the center, not lower the input, in the GNOME ALSA Mixer. I have tried to disconnect the antenna to the analoge-TV-tuner. Has anyoe a similar problem, and a trick to fix it? I don't know if it's related to any recent update of the system?
Bought a new yamaha receiver and have it hooked up to my pc via a y connector on headphone out.
problem: computer speakers work fine when connected to the same audio output described above. when connecting the audio out to my stereo receiver, there is no sound.
the receiver indicates that it is not receiving a signal.
I have a MacBook Pro 8,3 w/ Natty installed on it and noticed on the wiki [URL]... it says sound only comes out of the right speaker. I just want to share that I got stereo sound on my machine by adding `options snd-hda-intel model=mbp55' to the end of `/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf' and rebooting. I didn't see a solution anywhere else. I haven't done extensive testing, I just know that now I have sound coming out both speakers (and headphone speakers) at balanced volume levels.

No problems, but afterwards my sound is completely gone and under hardware when I click the sound option on the speaker icon I get nothing listed under hardware.
I am using the HP DV2810 US notebook PC. With this being listed as the audio device.
I will also list the updates from my synaptic history. I'm having to use Win7 . And i only wanted that for the few games that one run well in wine.

Until recently, when connected my laptop to the stereo via audio out, i had sound coming only from the stereo. I don't know why and when exactly this happened, but now when the stereo is connected, i get sound from the laptop speakers and stereo speakers simultaneously.Is this a bug? I'd like to mute only my laptop speakers but haven't figured out how. I've tried every setting in "sound" or "audio" or whatever it's called in english, but to no avail.Any ideas how to turn off the laptop speakers?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAlright, the lifehacker article about this Acer machine got me interested in revisiting XBMC as a media center. I bought the AR1600-U910H from Newegg and have been struggling for a couple of weeks to get it working correctly. I opted to install a full Ubuntu desktop to utilize the hardware fully with a standalone version of XBMC. I am currently running Lucid with NVIDIA 256.25 (was running 195 series) driver. Switched to 256 because I heard it fixes the no multi-channel output problem. However, sadly I can't get multi-channel out to work. I have the HDMI output going through my Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver for both audio and video. My problem is I can only get stereo sound out while running XBMC (or any application for that matter).
I've upgraded Alsa to 1.0.23. I've installed new Beta 256.25 NVIDIA driver. I've configured Alsa about 28 different times. I'm at my wits end. So, my question is - does anybody having a similar setup with the ION chip (or the Acer Aspire Revo in particular) where they can succesfully get HDMI digital audio pass through to a receiver (or at least digital multi channel out)? The best I've gotten is 2 channel audio, which doesn't do a lot of good on a 5.1 setup. If I would have known getting multichannel audio would be so difficult I would have rethought starting this endeavor. I don't care if I have to do a fresh reinstall of everything - if that means a different version Ubuntu so be it.
I just got a 5.1 Surround sound system and set it up. I found that it was only working as stereo, though (That is, only the two frontal speakers were producing any sound). I made sure everything was not muted in alsamixer and checked that the hardware was set to 5.1 in the Sound Preferences Hardware tab.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 64bit and my sound card is an onboard Intel DG41TY, Realtek ALC888VC codec.
I have updated my Ubuntu to Lucid 10.04 from 9.10.
Although my sound disappeared in 9.10 only, I thought maybe upgrading might help, but there is no change.
I guess everything is installed fine.
But still aplay -l command shows "NO sound cards.. "
Moreover the sound preferences shows no hardware, no input and a dummy stereo output.
I have banged my head a lot trying various things written in forums and all but no success.
One more thing : When I test "osstest" , I get sound in both the earphones , but altogether there is no sound. I am very much confused.
I bought this Radeon 4670 [URL] to improve my video. Although the description on ATI-AMD webpage [URL] specifies that this card can output up to 7.1 audio through HDMI, Sound Controls only shows the stereo and off option. ATI Catalyst does not have any controls for audio. Is there a way to get 5.1 audio enabled? Using 10.04.

My setup is as follows:
> HP Proliant Microserver
> Ubuntu 10.10
> Zotac GT210 card
> HDMI from GFX card to AV amp
> 5GB Ram
What I want to be able to do is:
> Play music from FLAC files I have ripped in either stereo or sudo 5.1
> Play DVD iso files that I have ripped in the audio format found on the original discs (DTS etc)
I have managed to get sound working before, but only in stereo and I couldn't get it working in XBMC (not the sound from the main movie I chose anyway). I have since completely broken the sound after trying various things found on the interweb and cannot get it back.

Everything was fine until I upgraded to the Beta 2, now the sound only comes out of my left headphone speaker and stereo speaker. My sound settings are the same and I have double checked them.Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know how to fix it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI thought the message received sound was too quiet in Empathy 2.32.0.1 and figured out that it was playing the file located here:[URL]...I replaced this file with a more suitable sound file but I have since noticed that the sound is only playing through my right speaker. I don't know if this was happening from the start or if I caused it by changing the sound file.
Playing the sound file manually proves there's no issue with the file as it plays correctly, through both speakers. I have no other sound issues.
I have a HP Compaq dc5750 desktop pc, which has a internal speaker for audio playback. My problem is that I can only get audio from this speaker, when I plug something into the rear jack stick, the sound still comes out of the internal speaker. I have tried to install alsamixer and unmuted AUX and Line IN, and increased volume to 100%. Sound is working, but only on internal speaker!.

On my windows machine, my mic works just fine, but it's not in very very good place for recording (a bit too echoey). So I thought I'd use my netbook running ubuntu.I can plug my mic in, and it does record sound, but there is no available sound profile that allows me to just have two-channels of input. Can I install a driver or edit a file somewhere that lets me have stereo input?

in fedora 11 that was not possible , this adjustment of volume had become more complicated, however there was this "advanced volume control" or something ... i dont quite remember its name , but thanks to that i could still adjust volume of each of my speakers individually ...

In the current release of Debian, is there a reason that I can only hear sound through one speaker. With any other distro, the sound can be heard through both.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis may seem like a stupid question (if not completely ridiculous ), but I was wondering if there's a way to configure audio events so that I can use a wav/ogg sound instead of the PC speaker's default beep for small events like hitting backspace in a text editor when it's the beginning of the document (or any other illegal keyboard action), or in Wine applications when it calls for an "asterisk" sound (it just beeps the PC speaker).
I've looked at similar threads, but they mainly just talk about either the beeps that the machine does when it boots up, or simply turning off the beeping completely. What I want to do is substitute the beeps (that are caused by the OS) for an actual sound that's played through the ALSA/OSS/whatever audio device.
There`s no sound in headphone jack, if I plug a headphone nothing happens, the speaker doesn`t stop. BUT if i boot slack with the headphone plugged the opposite happens, the heaphone works but if i unplug it no sound come out from speakers.

One of the left speaker on my macbook 2,1 has no sound. The channel is not muted in alsamixer. If you go into sound preferences and change the card to a surround 4.0. The both the front and rear right speakers work. Front is higher sound (tweeter) rear is the lower sounds. (mid-sub) however on the left side the left front does nothing. to the naked ear you can tell not as much sound is coming out of the left side. one speaker is not functioning. is there a fix for this?

(Vostro V130 owners: after the reboot into the new system, there is no GUI. worse, after log in, a startx means the screen goes dead. fortunately, a power key event is still detected, so reboot still works cleanly. after I did a full apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade, and apt-get upgrade, the screen and remix worked.)
I would now like to increase the bass, systemwide (so that ..... gets sound that is a little better). the speaker icon on the top right gets me into sound preferences, but I do not see an equalizer.

With headphones everything is OK . I have unmuted everything and searched forums but nothing so far. In windows I get speaker sound so it is not hardware problem. In alsamixer it appears I have 2 soundcards, one HDA -intel (chip Realtek ALC272) and a second one HDA nvidia ( a virtual one propably from my nvidia VGA ) that lacks controls . With lspci -v , it appears both use the same driver :Kernel driver in use: HDA IKernel modules: snd-hda-intel . Tried to disable the first one from bios but it didnt help I also tried sound adjustment in preferences -> sound and gnome-alsamixer, nothing From gnome alsamixer, when I mute speakers, the headphones also get mute so may be the system doesnt recognize speakers and headphones separately ? May be it has to do with config files but my linux knowledge is low

I've look at Alsa Mixer. There are two tabs (IDT ID 76c7 and ATI R6xx HDMI). I turned the second one off, since I don't have any HDMI sound output device connected to the computer. On the other tab, there are five sliders (Master, PCM, Front Mi, Line and Mic). They are all turned on, and the first two are at maximum volume.
It seems to me that Ubuntu is not recognizing whatever controls the rear speaker jack.
originally my sounds worked completely, but now I only have sound out of the headphone jack. I used all the OEM software originally, but ended up following this step-by-step guide to run all pulse audio. After installing that I noticed that the sound keys on my laptop still showed that they changed the volume, but didn't have any effect in PulseAudio Volume Control... fixed that by changing the keyboard layout. While that bugged me the sound still came out of my speakers and headphone jack, but just recently the speakers randomly stopped working.
