Dec 25, 2010Is there is a way in compiz to open all the minimized windows in the taskbar? Since I want to use the "scale" feature in compiz for all of the windows. As what you already know is that, the "scale" feature only works for the open windows not the minimized ones. So I want a way to open all the minimized windows with a shortcut(using compiz or any thing else) and then use the scale feature again.

I have now marked compiz-fusion bcop & Emerald & installed them. Both turned green in Synaptic. While Emerald Manager is seen in the System Preference list, Compiz is not seen anywhere. How to launch Compiz?

Apr 30, 2011I have been doing some research on problems I have been having and I have narrows Compiz down to being the problem. I am running the prop Nvidea driver. I can use Unity 2d fine however I cannot use Unity at all I just get a blank screen with the mouse cursor no desktop ever loads. I have tried switching between gdm and kdm. I have now worked out that compiz looks like the problem. If I issue a compiz --replace at the terminal I get the same sort of problem I get when I log into the Unity 3d. I loose my left hand monitor (it goes black but I can move my mouse around) and on my right hand monitor I can operate things using the keyboard but when you click with the mouse it does not work although you can move it around fine. Never used Compiz and I dont know if anyone knows any troubleshooting I can try I have exhausted what I could find on the Internet (A few exports of global variables but none fixed anything).

Oct 30, 2010What it does is, if you do something to change anything on the screen, for example, highlighting text, or switching from one tab/menu in an application to another. The screen doesn't show the change. The only way to SEE the change is to do something else to the screen, like grabbing and moving the application around, or scrolling the page of a website, etc. If you don't do that, you won't see what's really on the screen, but rather what WAS on the screen.
Another example:
*) say you have an application open with 3 tabs: tab1, tab2, and tab3.
*) Switch from tab1 to tab2 and you see no change on the screen.
*) Switch from tab2 to tab3 and you see tab 2 on the screen, NOT tab 3.
*) Switch from tab3 to tab 2 and you see tab3 on the screen, and NOT tab2.
Or, if you're typing in this box to make a post, and you hit ctrl+a to select all, you see no change. If you click in the box to deselect all, then it looks like you've selected all text still. The only way to see what's currently on the screen is to scroll the text box or page just a bit, or, if you're using an application, then you'd have to move it around on the screen a bit.
As i've said, the nVidia drivers are installed and working, as well as compiz, etc.

Also, i did BOTH the dracut thing, and the extra kernel paramter in the grub.conf. So, nouveau is blacklisted. Oddly enough though, i do NOT have this problem when using the nouveau driver...
Also, fwiw, i think that i should mention that i'm not using the "Desktop Settings > Enable Desktop Effects" method, because i always seem to have problems with getting certain features to work, like the background for the cube skydome, etc. How i do it is that i install a package called compiz-manager, and i have it set to run at session start. This makes all of the compiz features work fine. One thing that i've noticed though, is that on my other workstation, i haven't set that up yet, and it seems that is is NOT having the same issue. While compiz-manager was running, i tried to use the "desktop settings" method, and it crapped out and reverted back to the old school desktop. I then tried it again, and it reloaded compiz, and there is no screen update issues now. So it seems that you have to have both of them running in order to get all of the compiz options to work, and not have the screen refresh issue?
Ubuntu :: Nothing Appeared After Login?
Jan 19, 2011I use ubuntu 10.10 Last night when I use my laptop I hangs and when I shut it down the last thing I see is there's a not responding app called at-spi register (or at-sys or something I don't really remember) and the next time I log in to my account there's only login sound heard and the wallpaper I set before, and the mouse cursor. There's nothing else. No nautilus, no panels, nothing. Nothing happened when I press alt-f2, ctrl alt L, etc. There's even nothing happened when I press the power button (unless if I press it a long time it will shut down). the only thing I can do (that I know) is press ctrl-alt f1 & ctrl-alt-f7 to change to tty. And only through tty and recovery mode I can access my account. I decide to create new account using adduser and I can login into the new account successfully. but then again in my new account I can't access all the data from my original account. and I can't use root or sudo command in my new account.
I've tried to reset gnome and nautilus using rm -rf but apparently nothing appeared but login sound, wallpaper (that change to default ubuntu maverick wallpaper), and a mouse cursor that can't do anything.

Jun 20, 2010A new directory (Desktop with uppercase D) appeared in my /home/mark dir and my icons disappeared. Upon further looking, I see there are 2 directory's in my home, one called desktop (all lower case,) the other is Desktop with uppercase D. I copied the stuff from desktop to Desktop and my icons are back. Where is this information kept so I can fix it back. I guess I need to tell Linux to use desktop, but I don't know where that is.

Oct 24, 2010About 2 weeks ago i installed ubuntu 10.10 and downloaded fresh network drivers. I ran autorun.sh, the module was compiled and installed, i could see it with lsmod. But after rebooting the old module appeared again, but no file for him were in modules directory because autorun.sh removed old module file. Some time passed and I figured out that it is initrd who is guilty. I couldn't check it because i already deleted ubuntu and installed Fedora 14 Beta. Today i tried to repeat my steps and installed new network module on Fedora. But when i rebooted and started again i was surprised - new module works instead my old one. Everything is fine So, my question, does Fedora use initrd? I saw some files in /boot that which are initrd files (as i think). Or may be not every fedora system uses initrd or something else?

1. Grub did not appeared.
2. Vista decided to loop on start and I could not boot it nor in fail safe mode.So I recovered Vista with an recovery disk, but now I only can start in Vista from HD.
Now I am using a f14 Live CD in order to apply some solutions I have read in the tags but the partitions of Fedora do not appear with fdisk, although I can access them from Live.

Then I saw that it was just the tail-end of a longer line which had stretched the page width to max, and by deleting backwards I arrived beneath my intact notes.
