Ubuntu :: Firefox Goes Grey
Sep 28, 2010I have a normal ubuntu installation installed on my netbook.Annoyingly for some reason Firefox regularly goes grey on the background, I am unable to get any input to it. After a few seconds the colour returns and functionality returns.This does not happen after a period of inactivity so I have no idea why this happens or for what reason.I've seen a similar post dated 2008 so it is surprising it is still occurring.

Jul 15, 2010While using FireFox the application will sometimes turn a shade of grey. Almost as if the entire application is locked. Most times if I wait for a while it will "colorize" itself after a moment or two and I'm right back to doing whatever I was doing.,I was just wondering if anybody could tell me why this happens?
I have noticed that the AutoTen program does the same thing while an application is being installed. The terminal-style window will open and start doing all the important stuff, and the GUI will grey out until it's done... I just don't understand why FireFox would be doing this...
Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Fsync Updated Status Of 'gtk2-engines-pixbuf
Feb 17, 2010ive been trying to move myself away from windows, but it seems like ubuntu just wont have it, either that or win7 puts some curse on ubuntu Just done my 3rd(3rd time this error has now happened) fresh install of ubuntu 9.10 onto my second hard drive(first hard drive has win7), install seemed fine, boots up nicely into grub, got the internet working fine(worked out of the box, wireless), other programs run fine, all seems to be working wonderfully well!
Until I tried to update, started up the update manager, clicked on check, its finds loads of updates so I let it download them, downloads all 200+ updates, starts to install them.
The updates are installing fine but then about three quarters of the way along the progress bar for installing it gets an error.Heres the details it showed at the error: (the rest of the details just looked like successful installs/updates)

Ubuntu Installation :: Jaunty 9.04 Updated And Now Firefox Died
Feb 8, 2010I have Jaunty 9.04 and I was sitting online yesterday and the update manager came up. I let it do its thing as usual, but it seemed to have an issue with some firefox related package (having to do with branding?) and then the little flipping-out icon showed up in my tray saying that a package broke. It did not, and the firefox launcher turned into a missing puzzle brick and clicking it causes a small window to come up with the following message:

So I might have tried to uninstall firefox from synaptic or something, but this just created more errors and I don't think it worked properly anyway. Inside Synaptic, there is one listed as a "broken" package in the broken filter. It is something to do with Firefox Branding AMD64 and all that goodness.
Ubuntu :: Lucid Lynx Will Not Boot After Firefox Updated
Sep 17, 2010Problem occurred after attempting to update firefox and configure evolution. Attempted to update firefox last night, it froze, attempted to open the system monitor to end the unresponsive process, and got a message saying the system was unable to support a new process because it couldn't fork. Did a forced reset, and the following now happens upon starting up. After selecting ubuntu (as it's a dual boot system with Windows XP) at the grub loader, blank screen, to this:

EDIT: Nevermind- I'm going to try the methods listed in [URL], and hope the gods of fsck smile upon my lowly hard drive.

sound works great everywhere else, including mp3's on web through firefox. i searched the forum, of course, but didn't find anything that seemed relevant or up-to-date.
Slackware :: Security Page Been Updated To Include Latest Firefox?
Oct 5, 2010I'm on the Slackware Security mailing list and I check the Slackware Security Advisory page daily because the mailing list, for me at least, is unreliable. After Firefox nagged me about a security update, I went to one of the FTP mirrors to check for an update and the Firefox update was there, but it still hasn't shown up on the official Slackware Security update page.

Aug 10, 2010I havent used Linux in a long time. I dug up an old copy of Suse (version8.2), and installed it on an old 599MHZ PC. Ive been trying to update the various libraries to be able to get a updated version of Firefox installed. Is there any chance that this can work? I need to know if Im wasting my time and should just put winxp on this PC. Also, I cant get any repositories working. I assume the default ones I have on the Suse installation are bad and the ones for the later versions will not work.

Ubuntu :: Twitter Status / Update Pidgin Status In Lucid
Jul 5, 2010I have just upgraded to Lucid on Ubuntu. I am a long time Pidgin user. I tried using Empathy with Gwibber, but I can't get Gwibber to update my IM status(es) in Empathy, so I want to go back to using Pidgin. (Additionally, I can't get Skype to work with Empathy.)I installed pidgin-microblog and pidgin-mbpurple, and they allow me to view my Twitter feed in Pidgin and update my Twitter status in Pidgin. However, in Karmic, I was also able to specify certain "status availabilities" (one named "Twitter-Available" and one named "Twitter-Away", for instance) to have the IM status message for these statuses become populated with my Twitter feed. This capability seems missing in pidgin-mbpurple in Lucid (and it seems to be the only thing missing from Karmic).
Is there a way to have pidgin-mbpurple update certain "status availabilities" in Lucid (and I'm just missing something) or is this no longer possible?Equivalently, is it possible to have Gwibber update my status message in Empathy? (I just want to be able to update my status once on one of my three computers - and have it propagate to all my other accounts (IM and social networking) and computers).
Ubuntu :: Nothing Appeared After Login?
Jan 19, 2011I use ubuntu 10.10 Last night when I use my laptop I hangs and when I shut it down the last thing I see is there's a not responding app called at-spi register (or at-sys or something I don't really remember) and the next time I log in to my account there's only login sound heard and the wallpaper I set before, and the mouse cursor. There's nothing else. No nautilus, no panels, nothing. Nothing happened when I press alt-f2, ctrl alt L, etc. There's even nothing happened when I press the power button (unless if I press it a long time it will shut down). the only thing I can do (that I know) is press ctrl-alt f1 & ctrl-alt-f7 to change to tty. And only through tty and recovery mode I can access my account. I decide to create new account using adduser and I can login into the new account successfully. but then again in my new account I can't access all the data from my original account. and I can't use root or sudo command in my new account.
I've tried to reset gnome and nautilus using rm -rf but apparently nothing appeared but login sound, wallpaper (that change to default ubuntu maverick wallpaper), and a mouse cursor that can't do anything.

Jun 20, 2010A new directory (Desktop with uppercase D) appeared in my /home/mark dir and my icons disappeared. Upon further looking, I see there are 2 directory's in my home, one called desktop (all lower case,) the other is Desktop with uppercase D. I copied the stuff from desktop to Desktop and my icons are back. Where is this information kept so I can fix it back. I guess I need to tell Linux to use desktop, but I don't know where that is.

Mar 16, 2011After a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.10 I uninstalled empathy (im using skype). The empathy menu in the evolution indicator was gone after that.I also uninstalled gwibber. But the gwibber status indicator remains within the about-me panel... Uninstalling the gwibber package also removes the me-menu which I want to keep actually. Especially the shutdown/restart... part of it. See attachment.I know there is a shutdown panel-app...but its butt-ugly and it doesnt allow to logon/off.
In another thread I read that the gwibber status shouldnt be there if no account for it is configured... which it is not... I do use ubuntu-one though which is in the same menu... I saw that this issue was addressed at some bug report before, but not fixed yet...
Does anybody know a good workaround to get rid of the gwibber status in the panel while keeping the about me and the shutdown button?
Fedora :: After Rebooting The Old Module Appeared Again?
Oct 24, 2010About 2 weeks ago i installed ubuntu 10.10 and downloaded fresh network drivers. I ran autorun.sh, the module was compiled and installed, i could see it with lsmod. But after rebooting the old module appeared again, but no file for him were in modules directory because autorun.sh removed old module file. Some time passed and I figured out that it is initrd who is guilty. I couldn't check it because i already deleted ubuntu and installed Fedora 14 Beta. Today i tried to repeat my steps and installed new network module on Fedora. But when i rebooted and started again i was surprised - new module works instead my old one. Everything is fine So, my question, does Fedora use initrd? I saw some files in /boot that which are initrd files (as i think). Or may be not every fedora system uses initrd or something else?

May 21, 2011I have received an ACER Aspire 7720 with Vista and I am trying to install F14. Really I installed it but, when restarting, there were some troubles:
1. Grub did not appeared.
2. Vista decided to loop on start and I could not boot it nor in fail safe mode.So I recovered Vista with an recovery disk, but now I only can start in Vista from HD.
Now I am using a f14 Live CD in order to apply some solutions I have read in the tags but the partitions of Fedora do not appear with fdisk, although I can access them from Live.

I recovered the mbr record from my boot partition, but because that record dose not include the ntfs partition, that partition appears as unallocated space. so how can I make that ntfs partition recognized again so I can update grub and boot to my windows 7 partition? Jan 27, 2011Well, the problem here seems to have started after I installed Gnome color changer and followed some directions on gnome-looks.org to install a certain theme (This one). Well after a while of messing around, and this not happening (I was never able to install the skin), I rebooted. When the desktop loaded, the background was covered by a big gray rectangle that covers the desktop. I say it covers because I can still see the original wallpaper through the transparent panels. Also, when I try to change the wallpaper, the computer becomes unresponsive and I have to force it to restart.
Anybody have any idea what it could be?
