View 1 RepliesI have downloaded the i386-DVD.iso image and have burned it on a DVD using Nero Express 6, when it boots from the DVD, it give me an error message "Could not find kernel image: Linux" and the boot: prompt after that. I have burned another DVD using Infra Recorder with minimum write speed but with the same problem. I have Ubuntu already installed on the computer.

After restarting, old kernel is booting, however from booting menu under advanced GNU/Linux options i can choice 3.2.66-grsec linux-image to boot, unfortunately it 'panics' (kernel panic - not syncing: grsec: halting the system due to suspicious kernel crash caused by root) and only way to turn off the computer is to hold down power button.

During the "installing the upgrades" section, the upgrade always stops or freezes in the same place. The Terminal message stops at "Configuring linux-image-2.6.31-21-generic". "update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-21-generic". I have a new DELL laptop computer that came with Ubuntu 9.04 pre-installed. I am using the Update Manager and have previously updated all files for 9.04 before clicking on upgrading to 9.10.

I'm currently trying to get my wireless card to work with ndiswrapper after installing backtrack4 today, BUT.When I try and use the make command it tells me that some or another file is missing. I've checked and the output is right, There is no file of that name but there is neither a folder of that name.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI decided today to try Xubuntu on my netbook.I downloaded an ISO of it, formatted my old 2GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro, and used Unetbootin to copy all the stuff onto the drive.Of course with flashing cursor after "boot:". So I tried rewriting with Unetbootin, and then even tried writing an ISO of Kubuntu to the flash drive.Each and every time, I get the same message.

Initially the installation got failed at the start giving following error :
"Could not find the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Installation CD. Activating Manual setup program."
What is interesting to notice is , if we use SLES 10 SP2 to boot the system upto the Installation menu and then replace the CD with SLES 10 SP1 media, the installation proceeds as normal without any error.
Not sure that could be the problematic thing over here. Does it mean with SP1 , no cdrom/cd or hard disk gets detected ?
I have a server x86 architecture and my problem is lost my username & password. Hope anyone can help about this matter as i need to log in to the server for maintenance purpose.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been running a dual boot set-up with Win XP and Ubuntu 9.10. The old 40 gb drive was showing signs of impending failure, so I replaced it with a new 120 gb drive, after saving an image of the old setup. After restoring the image from the original drive to the new one, Windows boots fine from the GRUB menu, but Ubuntu doesn't. I briefly see the Ubuntu "circle" then the screen goes blank. If I hit any key, I get a console screen of error messages (I can provide details if needed).
I think the problem is caused by the fact that the restore process scaled the saved image to fit the new, larger drive, with the result that the Ubuntu partition doesn't actually start where GRUB expects to find it. I'd like to recover the Ubuntu installation, but if is too big a deal, I'll just wait until 10.4 is released and do a clean install.
I just downloaded the newest version of Ubuntu onto a USB drive. I put it into my computer and when it was loading Ubuntu, it said "Could not find kernal image: vesamenu.c32".

I downloaded Fedora-12-x86_64-DVD.iso and placed it on a 16GB USB drive using the Windows LiveUSB creator which had downloaded when I first download Fedora 11.The USB boots fine and I choose the language and the the keyboard layout. I tell it the image is on the USB drive it displays /images/install.img as the image.
However after going through all the steps up to choosing where I want it throws an error saying cannot find image #1 on the hard disk.Now if I boot again and instead of choosing the USB drive I hit F2 and then choose the USB drive then /Images then the install.img and press O.K. it says it isn't and just cycles around the choose drive/image.

Seems that I've seen both, and I've done several searches using parameters/error messages that I'm seeing and can't seem to find a post that relates.
I have results of "./getinfo.sh network", and other necessary config file info ready to post, but want to make certain on correct forum.
I am having trouble both installing or even just booting the live CD. I have to interrupt the boot to give the nomodeset boot option.
Once I get the Ubuntu splash with the oscillating red and white dots for several moments, I get the Busybox with the error message "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system"
If I do a dmesg I then see a lot of sr0 errors. I have an onboard SCSI controller but no scsi devices. I am not sure if this matters.

I've been trying to get a live stick of OpenSUSE 11.2 running and I continuously get a script of "boot: could not find kernel image: gfxboot" running down the screen. Any other version of Linux will run fine off this same USB and I have not seen this error cited anywhere on these forums or Google.
