Ubuntu Networking :: Guide To Use Share Internet Over Wifi?

Jul 5, 2010

My computer running Ubuntu 10.04 (latest) is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable. I would like other devices to connect to the internet by sharing its connection via wifi. Is there a guide to do this? I haven't been able to find one which works out of the box.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Create A Virtual WiFi And Share Internet Access With Many Others?

Dec 25, 2009

There is a new feature in Windows 7 that make u able to create a virtual WiFi and share ur internet access with many others.

I know there is ad-hoc but sometimes it has problems, for example I couldn't connect to my friend's ad-hoc network (he is using Windows 7) but I _could_ connect to the virtual WiFi he created, it appeared just like any other wireless network unlike ad-hoc

so is there any way to create a virtual WiFi and not ad-hoc in Linux?

Ubuntu :: Share Internet From 1st Ethernet AND To 2nd Ethernet And Wifi Card?

Feb 8, 2011

I am basically wanting to use my Ubuntu 10.10 computer as a router. Note: Before you say just get a router please note that I am poor/cheap. I have two ethernet connections and one wireless connection on my netbook. I want to share the internet connection that is going into one of the ethernet cards through the other ethernet card and the wireless card.

DSL-->1sr Eth --> 2nd Eth (currently works)
DSL-->1sr Eth --> Wireless Card (Adhoc) <--(connects with limited connectivity AKA no internet)

The 2nd Ethernet card already has working internet, but when I connect to the Wireless card (through an Adhoc network), it cannot get an IP (I believe).

Ubuntu Networking :: 9.10 - Share WiFi Between Desktop And Laptop

I want one of this these desktops to share wifi with laptop. I think that a wifi adapter is a way to solve this problem. I found a D-Link dwa-110. i've read on forums that someone successfully installed drivers [URL]. Is there any other ways to share wifi with laptop (only 1 laptop needs to be shared with)? Had someone connected desktop with D-Link dwa-110 and laptop (as I want)? Both desktops connected to Internet via wire.

Ubuntu Networking :: Share Wifi Connection With A Macintosh?

Jun 7, 2010

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Jaunty Jackalope. I have a good working wireless connection.

My daughter has a lot of iPod tunes stored on an old white chiclet Macintosh, which she needs to download to her iPod. Because the iPod is "corrupt" (meaning it was last connected to Windows!), we need to connect to internet.

Simplest way to do that would SEEM to be to plug an Ethernet cord between the two machines and let her Mac access internet via this Dell.

My experience with ethernet is, either it works out of the box, or it doesn't. If it doesn't, I have no idea how to make the connection work.

What do I have to do on BOTH the Jaunty and OSX sides to make the connection?

Ubuntu Servers :: Create A Detailed Guide For A Postfix Server Running On At&t Internet?

Apr 18, 2011

I currently have a personal use server setup in my home and would like to be able to send emails from my domain name.

At&t blocks the standard ports used so some form of forwarding would have to be used. I've looked at other guides and followed them to the key but it appears I'm always missing something.

So my question here is could anyone write a detailed guide from start to finish on how to install a postfix server behind an at&t connection complete with MX record and firewall configuration information?

Ubuntu Networking :: WiFi But No Internet?

Feb 17, 2010

I am new to Ubuntu, but because of my familiarity with Vista's Command Prompt, I was able to adapt easily. But there was a problem. My WiFi card didn't work. As it turned out, I was missing drivers. So I plugged into my dad's Gigabit Ethernet port and got ndiswrapper. That worked well, and my wireless card is working. The problem is that I can access the network in my house, but not the Internet. Everybody else (running Windows) can access the Internet wirelessly. But I have to steal my dad's wired work line. Is there any way to solve this? info about my computer, here it is:

OS: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
Computer: (Laptop) Dell Vostro 1000
Wireless card: Dell 1390 wireless
Router: Netgear... some model or another

Ubuntu Networking :: Could Use LAN And Share Internet Connection Between PCs?

Jul 10, 2010

I'm trying to connect two PCs to the Internet (or at least to create a local network) using a crossover cable. My main PC (the one that has two ethernet adapters and is connected to the Internet) runs Windows 7 and my secondary PC runs Ubuntu 10.04.Unfortunately, it doesn't work. Both systems send out packages but don't receive anything. How can I possibly fix this, so that I could use LAN and share the Internet connection between PCs? Does Windows need special software to recognize Ubuntu (or the other way around)?

Ubuntu Networking :: Share Internet Between Two Interfaces?

Oct 17, 2010

For a very special project, many hardware issues, unusual limitations, etc, I'm turning my ubuntu into an access point (temporarily) by sharing the Internet from one device to another. I found out that with the devices I'm using, this can't be done with the network manager.

I need to get the internet from a device called 'tun0', to my 'wlan0', so it can broadcast it as a very special access point. I've read that there are ways to do this with the terminal.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Connects But No Internet / Why Is So?

Nov 23, 2010

Let me start by saying that I am new to ubuntu, and that I always use forums as a last resort.

I installed ubuntu 10, and immediately after the Wifi card deected my network name, and actually connected to it, but then I opened up firefox and....no internet.

Since then I have been trying to fix this problem, and after some research I found out that my card (PCI Cwp-905) is RT2760 based, and I downloaded the linux RT2760 drivers for it.

The driver folder contained a readme file with commands you should enter to install it, and other setup files.
The problem: every command I typed in didn't work. I tried "make", and then "sudo make", but just got permission denied each time. I am now at a dead end. (Please note that I changed my directory to the folder location before doing this)

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? If you want I can attach the driver files.

Ubuntu Networking :: Sharing Internet Through Wifi From LAN

Dec 12, 2010

The place I will be staying at (Japanese Guesthouse) only offers internet through cable. What I'd like to do is be able to connect my other devices through wifi (Cellphone for example) to the Ubuntu machine connected through this ethernet cable in order to access the internet.I've searched for a good hour but I'm getting extremely confused about the gateways, bridges or whatever else people suggest. Most of what I've been able to find actually only covers getting internet through wifi and then sharing it through lan (I'm trying to achieve the opposite).

So if anyone could point me in the right direction, or at least tell me what terms I should be using for my searches, it would greatly help. Some computer info might be useful. I'm using a Dell XPS M1210, the network adapter is an Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG and I'm running Ubuntu Desktop Edition 10.10.
