What is the easiest way to use SSH over the internet with Putty? I have a Symbian phone with Putty installed and I was hoping I might be able to run some commands remotely on my 10.04 desktop with it. I've found a few tutorials but it seems like they deal with local networks and not over the internet.

I know how to setup to connect to the machine from Windows and I am using the same settings for the one I am trying on the Ubuntu machine but it fails to connect. It fails immediately so I believe that putty is not able to find ssh. Is there some configuring that I need to do.

Fine.I can start it via /opt/teamviewer/ teamviewer/5/bin/teamviewer.If i connect to the box via ssh and putty, i still can run those commands but nothing happens.My goal in this is to be able to start teamviewer remotely via putty.

I just installed this server and didn't make any ssh config options. I thought it would work right away.When I ping that server I get sporadic responses where some packets are lost. All in all, I have had nothing but success with Ubuntu, being that I'm no to it, but knowing what I need, I can usually find the solution. My problem is accessing via VNC after a reboot. The issue is the keys (keyring)
Router is setup for SSH on 22 for PuTTY to work, 5900 for VNC to work. If I am at the machine and login, VNC is possible from outside. Should I be running a different server other than the Remote Desktop that is included?
Is there a way to login via SSH to unlock the GUI to allow VNC access? I am trying to transfer a file from my work Win7 computer, to my Ubuntu home server. I can SSH into my server using PuTTY with no problems. The "Access denied" occurs after I type my password of course.I just want to push a file from my Win7 machine to my Ubuntu using SSH and PuTTY. PuTTY is what I have loaded on my work machine.

It kept telling me the server was rejecting my key.I plugged in a monitor and keyboard into the server and logged in via password then had no problem logging in through putty client.Question is, every time I shut the server down do I have to plug in the monitor and keyboard, then login, to be able to login remotely?

View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I tried using PuTTY to set up a socks proxy on my local machine, a procedure I used to do when I was not using Ubuntu which used to work flawlessly and out of the box... however, apparently putty is not able to set up a port on my PC, but if I use ssh -Dport, everything works smoothly. Again, this used to work out of the box on other distros... any hints?
P.S.: This is the third problem I'm having with standard operations in Ubuntu: pinentry-qt4 does not work, the scanner needs manual setting to permissions, now this... isn't this distribution supposed to be user friendly? I'm resorting to the terminal more than I ever did.
I can log in when using the keyboard from the server no problems but when I try and log on from my laptop this morning using putty I can connect type in my user name but when I put in my password it says access denied now I also can not FTP and webmin does not connect to the server but I can get to the web pages no problem with a browser so can this be fixed or do I have to start from scratch again to get me logged in with putty and webmin somehow the password is not working in ssh.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am new to linux and I purchased a Linux Dedicated server, however my experience for Linux is 0 and my pc's at home are Windows 7. I am trying to install TightVNC server on my linux dedicated server but I can currently only access it through Putty as far as I know.
Is there a way to install TightVNC through Putty from my Windows 7 computer? Because I have no clue how else to put TightVNC on my dedicated server.
I'm talking specifically about three functions that I'm missing from Windows world and could not find them in any terminal program in Linux.
1. When you select text in putty window the text is being automatically copied to clipboard - very useful.
2. When I move the cursor to another putty window and right click inside it - the text is being automatically paste inside this window.
3.When I click on a putty window with session running I can say: "duplicate session" - so great.
Why o why can't I get those in any Linux terminal ?I could get this wit CrossOver but surprisingly the Windows version of putty does not work under linux as it supposed to?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed the CentOs 5.5 on my laptop (windows7 + vmware workstation 7), I used host only, the centos could connect only with my laptop. After installation , I 'd like to admin CentOs by putty or ssh client, so I configured the sshd_config. I configured the file like this:
UsePAM no
UseDNS no
PasswordAuthentication yes
but I could not log in successfully , the connection was refused all the time. I can ping the Centos from my windows7; I can telnet ip 22 , the Openssh could appear; the /var/log/security looks no problem ; but I just couldn't log in the system. How can I do?

I have a VM with RHEL 5 without an X server. My host has Windows 7.
I need to connect to the VM and redirect the X11 output of the commands to my host.
I know that if my host were a GNU/Linux machine it would be as easy as ssh -X .
I'm ussing PuTTy to connect by SSH to the VM, I tried enabling X11 forward option in PuTTy config, but nothing happened.
I am access my linux box remotely using putty. I ran some build process on the remote machine. I lost my connection and now I had to re login using putty. I dont know if my process has finished or not. How will I check that.

We changed ip's the other day and now ssh is not working. SSH/Putty was working fine before the ip change. Everything else is working fine on the machine. The sshd_config file has not been touched at all since I've been working on the machine.
var/log/messages shows this: Code: bind to port 22 on 0.0.0.0 failed address already in use netstat -an shows that tcp is listening on 0.0.0.0:22 with no port conflicts.
