Ubuntu Networking :: PuTTY And VNC Access After Reboot?
Mar 23, 2011
I've seen other posts on this issue, but don't know if they were ever resolved. I've tried some of the suggestions but none seemed to apply.Flavor - 10.10 Issue - Access via VNC after reboot
All in all, I have had nothing but success with Ubuntu, being that I'm no to it, but knowing what I need, I can usually find the solution. My problem is accessing via VNC after a reboot. The issue is the keys (keyring)
Router is setup for SSH on 22 for PuTTY to work, 5900 for VNC to work. If I am at the machine and login, VNC is possible from outside. Should I be running a different server other than the Remote Desktop that is included?
Is there a way to login via SSH to unlock the GUI to allow VNC access? I would not even bother with GUI, but I'm not there yet with the CLI To all that have suggested I learn it, believe me I'm working on it. All of us out there that have the Swindows syndrome have an uphill battle. I can't be the only one up against this. If anyone who has serious skills could take 5 minutes and peek. I can't think of any other information that I could supply. If there is,
I am trying to remotely access a linux machine to run Cadence from my laptop.I downloaded Putty and Xming/XLaunch.I run Putty, enable X11 forwarding, then sign into my host address.I am successfully able to access and navigate through my home directory, however once I try and run Cadence, I get the attached error.
I am trying to setup a putty session to putty from one Ubuntu machine to another. I know how to setup to connect to the machine from Windows and I am using the same settings for the one I am trying on the Ubuntu machine but it fails to connect. It fails immediately so I believe that putty is not able to find ssh. Is there some configuring that I need to do.
I'm trying to open port 8080 on my application server. I've included it in my iptables; however I still cannot access through ssh nor putty and it doesn't show up when I netstat either. Here is my iptables-config:
-A INPUT -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -i eth0 -s xxx.xx.x.0/24 -j ACCEPT
I've read a number of web pages on this and scoured a few forums, but I can't seem to get it to work. Here's the low down so far [don't know if this matters] server has a bridge interface

I am trying to transfer a file from my work Win7 computer, to my Ubuntu home server. I can SSH into my server using PuTTY with no problems. The "Access denied" occurs after I type my password of course.I just want to push a file from my Win7 machine to my Ubuntu using SSH and PuTTY. PuTTY is what I have loaded on my work machine.
I am new to using Ubuntu but I have installed ubuntu karmic koala on my laptop and am dual booting ubuntu and xp on my desktop. I am wondering how I go about setting up putty so I can view my desktop from my laptop because I travel quite frequently.
I am access my linux box remotely using putty. I ran some build process on the remote machine. I lost my connection and now I had to re login using putty. I dont know if my process has finished or not. How will I check that.
I am trying to play my audio files at work from my home computer over ssh. The computer I use at work is windows and so I use Putty to make that connection. However when I mplayer file.mp3, the file starts to play, but I am assuming it's playing on my home computer.....so, I am wondering, how do I forward the audio to my remote computer?
and no, can't use a CD... I work in a car with no CD player, and the computer is a Panasonic Toughbook with no CD-ROM... options are limited.
I am using putty in my windows machine to access my Linux server terminal.
Code:
Putty works fine if I disable my Linux IPTABLES. My Windows machine IP is 192.168.1.249 Linux server IP address is 192.168.1.200 I don't know how to allow it through IPTABLES.The port which putty is using is 22.
I have Debian installed in embedded PC which is in a vehicle . This PC collects information related to engine .This pc is connected to internet using Verizon USB 175 modem.i connect to internet uing Wvdial. On connection it gets dynamic IP and uing this Ip i planned to login through Putty. This whole system Is in US , when i was in US i had laptop which is connected to internet using verizonPCMCI modem. from that laptop i used putty and entered dynamic ip in Putty and i could successfuly login to the system in vehicle. But when i came back to India i tried to login to the system , here i have different ISP not verizon , i tried to ping that IP ( technician called from US and informed the new IP ) in the Vehicle and i was successful in doing that , i got echo to my ping. Now using that Ip in putty to login but i could not login ,it gives time out
Can you find my blind spot? I had PuTTY up & running untill I did a reinstall of Fedora13.I can ping 192.168.1.163 fine. SELinux is disabled. Firewall is default (SSH allowed on p22).I have just disabled the firewall with same result)
PuTTY reports: =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= PuTTY log 2010.07.20 16:23:52 =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Event Log: Writing new session log (SSH raw data mode) to file: C:UserswimDesktopputty.log
I can't connect to my Suse server by ssh (using putty) cause console shows me this message: connection reset by peer some times, other times It let me type the user but when I going to enter the password It reset the connection. What I did?? Reinstalled the ssh, but everything was same, the problem still appears. So I reinstalled the Operating System, now but when I going to connect to server the problem appears again! What could be the cause of this behavior??
I researched a long while and could not find an answer to these problems, so here I am. I have a debian server running on my home network. I have it running LAMP and it has a live website.
I have samba running and share files with my windows 7 machine, so they do connect.
When i try to use putty it always refuses the connection.SQLyog tells me off too, but it only cays it cannot connect.
I was checking into SSH, since that is how they are both trying to connect, but I can not find adequate info online for my problem.
I have debian lenny running, I was pretty sure it has ssh running, but i couldnt locate 'sshd'
Is SSH on there by a different name or do I need to install the service.
(ps - getting samba running was a nightmare, but i think it was windoze fault, i tried setting up the debian machine exactly how the guides said to do, but it never could connect and denied passwords constantly, then the next day after a few windows reboots had happened, all of the sudden it worked. Don't know what the deal was there. Could that be instrumental? Sorry I am a web dev and not a networker so this stuff is not my forte.)
I installed ubuntuserver edition 10.10 on my old p3.Installation went fine and i installed LAMP and SSH along with it.*everyhting i do past this point is via LAN on my laptop using root account on putty or winSCP.*I installed phpmyadmin, loged in with root, duplicated the root acount and gave the duplicate any host (%) access. Next i created an account with access only to the users database (for use in my php to check username and password).Next thing i did was change the apache2 config 000-default to disable indexing. After that i changed the php.ini file to allow 6GB uploads (for movies).Rebooted... and thats where the problems start.I CANT:Acces phpmyadmin with any acount.Login on my website.I CAN:login to mysql using root.I HAVE:Checked if the mysql database and table for websitelogin still existed, they do.Checked mysql useracounts and they are still there. So something changed after the reboot, because it was working fine before i did.
Dual Boot Win XP Pro with Fedora 14 32 bit All ok til update today which included a new Kernel hence asked to reboot On reboot get to following message with no menu to access either Fedora or Windows
Quote:
GNU GRUB version 0.97 ( 638K lower / 3406528K upper memory ) [Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device /filename.] grub> _ (flashing cursor)
Is there any way to grant access to non root users to use some commands like reboot and date and some other commands that root user can work with .I tried chmod on their binaries and added them to root group but nothing happened.
1st I am relatively new to linux (but not to *nix). I have 4 disks assembled in the following intel ahci bios fake raid arrays:
2x320GB RAID1 - used for operating systems md126 2x1TB RAID1 - used for data md125
I have used the raid of size 320GB to install my operating system and the second raid I didn't even select during the installation of Fedora 14. After successful partitioning and installation of Fedora, I tried to make the second array available, it was possible to make it visible in linux with mdadm --assembe --scan , after that I created one maximum size partition and 1 maximum size ext4 filesystem in it. Mounted, and used it. After restart - a few I/O errors during boot regarding md125 + inability to mount the filesystem on it and dropped into repair shell. I commented the filesystem in fstab and it booted. To my surprise, the array was marked as "auto read only":
[Code]...
and the partition in it was not available as device special file in /dev:
I have a SSH server "SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-6ubuntu2" running at IP 1.1.1.1When I try to access it from another machine on the internet which is at 2.2.2.2 every thing goes fine. However when I try to do the same thing from 3.3.3.3 it does not work and Putty throws me this error "Server's host key did not match the signature supplied". I went inside HKEY_Current_userSoftwareSimonTathamPuttySshHostKeys and tried to remove all the known host and still the issue is existing, I am literally scratching my head as to what is going wrong.I Googled about this error and I saw many were having problem similar to mine however none were able to give some conclusive results so far.
Right now I have a machine set up running Fedora. I have configured inittab to accept Console Logins, but I am having problems getting my netbook running PuTTY to connect. How would I go about finding the Host Name and Port to connect to?
I've had my wireless networking (on an Acer Aspire laptop) working perfectly well for at least six months. Now, quite suddenly, after a reboot I get the message from wicd, "No wireless networks found". I probably was running a week or so before that without needing a reboot. Windows wireless is fine (I'm using it to send this post). In addition, my sound stopped working and I see a fleeting message to the effect that the sound system is reverting from analog to digital.I'm running Kubuntu 9.10. My guess is that something in a recent round of updates knocked me out of the box. How can I proceed to set things aright?
I managed to configure my W890i phone to get access to internet through an ubuntu-based computer. It's very easy to use the phone to give internet access to the computer, but the opposite is quite more tricky. For that I've done the following
----On the phone---
-Set the USB network option to "through computer", so that the phone uses the computer's internet connection and not the opposite.
-Decide and set "Shared Network" parameters: user, pasword and workgroup.
-In "conectivity-> internet connection" set "allow local network" to "yes"
----On Ubuntu 10.04---
-Install samba, samba-client, smbfs, smbclient, firestarter and dhcp3-server
-Configure Samba (System-> Administration-> Shared folders): same workgroup as in the phone, add new user (the phone), passwd this new user. In my case the user was called "w890i" and the password given was the same.
-Once the phone is connected to the computer through USB (then select "phone mode"), a new connection appears in NetworkManager: usb0.The aim is to create a shared network that gives internet access to this device. Edit the IPv4 parameters of this new connection, set them to Manual and give an IP adress (192.168.0.1) and a subnet mask (255.255.255.0); the rest of the fields are left empty.Connect this network.
-Set firestarter to use dhcp3: sudo ln -sf /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server /etc/init.d/dhcpd
-Launch firestarter and follow the wizard. Set "allow internet shared connection", choose the device for the primary internet access, and then the device for the shared network (usb0). Then change the settings for firestarter: activate DHCP for local network, set IP to the one we gave before (192.168.0.1).
-Open dhcp3-server config file sudo gedit /etc/default/dhcp3-server And set INTERFACES="usb0"
-Set the policies of firestarter: in incoming connections, allow connections from the IP adress given to the phone (192.168.0.1). Then add rules for the ports that need to be open for this connection. I opened HTTP, HTTPS, SMB, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, IMAPS, DHCP for all the connections in the local network.
-Apply policies and start the firewall.
------------
After all this, the phone can access the internet through the computer. Two problems appeared:
1. I couldn't get access to https sites, like webmails. The phone gave a "communication error". But then I tried with Opera instead of the browser built in the phone's firmware, and I could finally get to https sites.
2. I couldn't retrieve mail, neither POP nor IMAP nor IMAPS. I thought it was a firmware problem again, and I tried out several mobile phone email clients written in java, but none of them worked.
So this is at the moment the problem. If I connect from the phone to the internet directly through 3G, the email clients work for all my accounts. I don't think it's a firewall problem, because the ports are opened for this connection
I connected my laptop running with Ubuntu 11 in the LAN but I couldn't access internet. But I could ping to the other computers connected in the LAN. I tried the same thing with windows 7 in the same laptop and I could access internet.
I have 2 computer: 1 computer install ubuntu v9.10, in this computer already installed openssh-server and openssh-client, and 1 computer install windows. In computer with windows , i used putty connect to computer with ubuntu, but i can't connect. I don't understand what's error. In the Putty , i configured: IP : IP address of computer Ubuntu. Port 22 Connection Type SSH
This is error: "Network Error: Software caused connection abort"
In computer with windows, i can ping computer with ubuntu and in computer with ubuntu i can ping computer with windows.
I've been running a Samba server under RedHat 8 for five years without a hiccup. I want to cut over to a F10 box but cannot get shares accessible. smbclient attempts fail over NT password error. SELinux is disabled. Server is visible on the network. Users require no password access to shared data.
smb.conf follows:
# Samba config file created using SWAT # from UNKNOWN (>) # Date: 2009/06/12 14:15:15
I have a linux domain (FEDORA CORE 1) and two laptop's which are part of my domain with windows xp pro service pack 2.I have given two ip's to both the laptop's being primary as global and secondary as local.I have configured printer in one laptop and shared.Till last week i was accessing that shared printer from my other laptop and every thing was working fine.Last week i formatted one laptop,(which dose not have shared printer) from then onwards i am not able to access my other laptop. I get the following message when i try to accessmy other Laptop,"you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request"P.S : If i have only local IP i am able to see both the systems and i am able to access my printer, this problem comes only when i add global IP to both the machines. And also i have stopped the firewall and other things.
I have a problem w/ the LAN connection: the MAC address appears to be different after every reboot. I checked it w/ the ifconf command and looked for the eth0 hardware address. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 on ASUS K51AE laptop. The Fax/Modem/LAN/WLAN interface is integrated 802.11 b/g/n (I only have problem with the LAN connection).
Currently I cannot use my modem internet connection, it is really annoying. I would like to keep on using Ubuntu, but if I cannot find a solution I will have to return to windows...
