i have no /etc/ssh/ssh_host_key file and try to comment it but with no success. All other lines at the config file was commented.
I have a problem in connecting a new Linux box using putty.I have recently set up a new virtual machine using oracle virtual box , and in the virtual box i installed Cent OS 4.8 . I gave NAT connection.When i try to connect the Linux box using putty , i get Network connection Timed out message . When i try to ping from the host OS i get request timed out.

If I have 20 files, each with a shared prefix, on pressing tab, zsh will fully complete the first file, then continue going through the list with each press of tab. If I want one near the end, I would have to press tab many times.
In bash, this was simple - press tab and I would get the prefix. If I continued typing (and pressing tab), bash would complete as far as it could be certain of. I find this behavior to be much more intuitive but prefer the other features of zsh to bash.
Is there a way to get this style of completion? Google suggested setopt bash_autolist, but this had no effect for me (and no error message was printed upon starting my shell).
I can't figure out why I keep getting kicked out of the ssh session almost immediately after login to an ubuntu 9.10 server (32bit).See the screenshot. I just installed this server and didn't make any ssh config options. I thought it would work right away.When I ping that server I get sporadic responses where some packets are lost. It's an old Dell poweredge 1400.where should I start troubleshooting? Authentication? Hardware?

I know how to setup to connect to the machine from Windows and I am using the same settings for the one I am trying on the Ubuntu machine but it fails to connect. It fails immediately so I believe that putty is not able to find ssh. Is there some configuring that I need to do.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having a lot of difficulty trying to use tab completion while working in my FTP server from a terminal.I access this server with other Linux distros and OSX and the completion works fine. I've tried changing a lot of Debian config, but it seems to only affect the completion within the local scope.
Tab completion does work for system related tasks, no problem.
System:

I am not able to login to server from console attached to server, every time i enter username & password but it again asks for username & password. But when i try to login to server from remote machine, login happens properly.
View 4 Replies View RelatedENV: openssh-server-5.4p1-1.fc13.i686 Problem: I am unable to ssh using Putty (when using ssh-auth/pki) to a fedora box . I get the message: Server refused our key. Here's what I tried so far:
- Tried generating rsa (as well as dsa) keys on the linux server and put the generated public key in the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys. Then I converted the private key using PuttyGen.
- Also, tried generating keys using PuttyGen and then converted the public key and placed it on the server
- Configured the sshd server (ssh_config) for using RSAAuthentication=yes. Tried all combinations and purmutations; however, I still get the "Server refused our key" error.

I setup logging in through putty client with keys, and password disabled, could log in from all machines on my network (xp and 7) with putty.When I finished hut down the server.Today I turned on the server box and thought I'd try logging in through putty. It kept telling me the server was rejecting my key.I plugged in a monitor and keyboard into the server and logged in via password then had no problem logging in through putty client.Question is, every time I shut the server down do I have to plug in the monitor and keyboard, then login, to be able to login remotely?
View 8 Replies View RelatedAre there shell versions that have a more intelligent tab completion? I'd like to be able to type cd foo-<TAB> Then it would show me the possible completions along with numbers that I can type to select one of them:
cd foo-<TAB>
(1) foo-bar1 (2) foo-bar2 (3) foo-bad
So, after <TAB> I would type 3 and it would take me to foo-bad. Alternatively, using the arrow keys instead of typing the number would be fine.
I wondered if theres a way to do rotational style completion in bash similar to the behavoir on cmd.exe, I've found it speeds me up in regard to entering commands
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using ubuntu 9.04. I created new users, & users logged in with their name & password. Everything is working fine. But when they open gui terminal or when they login using CLI(using ctrl+alt+f1), they will get only "$" symbol, instead of full path like pwd, hostname, etc. And if I do ls, it is listing the content, but command completion is not happening, i.e $cd Des(pressing tab). These all things can be fixed only after pressing "bash". So I don't always want to press "bash". So is there any way that I can fix this issue.

I am writing completion function for one PHP framework called symfony. It has command line interface with syntax:

But nothing happens if you want complete after : symbol. I've found out that for readline there is three words because it splits line with $COMP_WORDBREAKS

I played with $COMP_WORDS array and tried every thought I had to make it work, but failed.
What I should do to escape colon and make readline consider it as one word? Or there is way perhaps to workaround it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI began by first installing Unbuntu Server (this was yesterday evening). After configuring and reconfiguring and reinstallation, I finally got it installed the way I wanted, so I thought! Today, I decided to give Debian a try. Read many posts concerning its stability, etc. D/L and installed. No problem, First I was met with permission denied error when trying to perform a simple 'cp' command. Jumped back to the forum and searched found a solution type 'su and enter password that worked perfectly I type some things in the smb.conf file (according to other instructions) then return to my XP machine to try connecting again. I know this isn't exactly 'rocket scientist' stuff, but WTH is going on? When the login screen appears in XP, I provide the proper credentials and still can't connect!! Also, how can I grant myself permissions other than using 'su -'?
Trying to build a simple file server for home use. Nothing fancy, but honestly, I've installed Novell servers much simpler than this.
