I'm talking specifically about three functions that I'm missing from Windows world and could not find them in any terminal program in Linux.
1. When you select text in putty window the text is being automatically copied to clipboard - very useful.
2. When I move the cursor to another putty window and right click inside it - the text is being automatically paste inside this window.
3.When I click on a putty window with session running I can say: "duplicate session" - so great.
Why o why can't I get those in any Linux terminal ?I could get this wit CrossOver but surprisingly the Windows version of putty does not work under linux as it supposed to?
I am trying to setup a putty session to putty from one Ubuntu machine to another. I know how to setup to connect to the machine from Windows and I am using the same settings for the one I am trying on the Ubuntu machine but it fails to connect. It fails immediately so I believe that putty is not able to find ssh. Is there some configuring that I need to do.
I Just recently switched all my desktops to Linux from windows, on windows i used kitty URL...,but in Linux terminal i couldn't find any work around for some of its functions, like :-
1)Open Winscp client by right clicking the window border.
2)CTRL+SHIFT duplicate the window
3)Highlight to copy and click to paste (i know pressing the middle mouse button in Linux would paste the highlighted text, but thats not possible when i am using a laptop.
4)Also I use NX(URL...) to ssh to the Xwindow... i am wondering if there are any other programs that allow me to do that (except the vnc stuff)
I am using putty to interact with Linux server. I have started a process using putty. The process is running and will take 5-6 hours. I want that process to keep running after I close the putty session. How can I keep that process alive after closing the putty session? I do not want to keep the computer ON all the time. Is there any way to do this?.
I am having issues with putty going inactive during a session and the job failing. I do not want to run nohup but would llike a korn shell script to keep putty alive.
How can we put ssh/putty session running even after in standby or disconnected mode. The idea is to have run a long running job from my notebook, which may take 6-8 hours, and if i come next day, there should be interrupt with it.
I have X Window running on one of RHEL Machine 192.168.2.2.I have logined through putty from remote Windows Machine 192.168.2.5. Now What I need to open the xterm (if I run the command through putty it should open xterm in the linux Machine).
I am downloading a big file on linux VPS, and I am connecting remotely via Putty to do it? Once I initiated the wget command to download the file, if I close the putty window, will wget continue to download the file in the background even though the session is technically closed?
None of my daemon scripts work now, and the startup process displayed errors. Should I reinstall the OS and start from scratch, or is there a way to recover these files? Is there a way to rebuild the files I deleted?
I made a fresh install of Lucid, but I miss under status widget that controls the pidgin's status in the top panel near turn off button, a blank field where you can type in your personal status message. Like one in the attachment below. What am I actually missing?
=> "Automatically remember running applications when logging out" is no longer existing because of bugs with multiple sessions. Is there a way to enforce this option, even if it is bugged with multiple sessions? My system has only 1 user and I miss so much this feature.
I was about to test the new KDE 4.7 on my (default Gnome machine.) All I did was the following:
1. Add some repositories:
Core: Index of /repositories/KDE:/Release:/47/openSUSE_11.4 Extra: Index of /repositories/KDE:/Extra/KDE_Release_47_openSUSE_11.4
2. Go in to Yast; Software Manager.
3. Change the dropbox originaly set to "Groups" in the upper left corner to "Pattern". Voila; There you have two nice and tidy options to check both "KDE Base System" and "KDE Desktop Environment" However: Once I check the KDE 4.7 Base System I get a dependency break. The missing part is "kdebase4-session >= 4.7.0".
Of course I can probably go out and find this somewhere else. But I thought it would be better to add it to the repository for future users. Maybe there is a legitimate reason for it to not be there at this moment - or maybe someone just forgot to put it there. Probably this is not an issue if you are upgrading from a previous KDE environment, maybe this package has been distributed before? This is probably not the correct place to put this info, what I really wanted to do was to send in a "bug report" or something similar.
Note: There is no Dependency break once checking "KDE Desktop Environment".
Is there a session manager I can use with 10.10? I would like to try Openbox but am not sure how to select it as a startup session. I would like to be able to choose between kde, gnome and openbox.
I have a very bad attempt at hashing the components of an tcp session to assign/locate the session in a hash table bucket. I am pretty sure that it has a very high collision rate and when there are a very large number of tcp sessions my application is having to search a long linked list to find the session within the bucket.
All the hashing functions I have found take a single string input where I need to input several integers and hash them into a single result. My guess is that any real hashing function is going to produce better results than what I am currently doing.
I am putting together some new systems for my customer and I'm having some trouble with a script that we use to back up files to a DVD R. The problem is that I can't write a 2nd session to the DVD unless I eject the disk and reload it. The drives are slimline type drives, Sony BD-5730S and Teac DV-W28S-V93, so they won't reload without human intervention. Opsys is CentOS 5.4 or RHEL 5.4. I've tried both AMD and Intel based mother boards. If i try this on Fedora 11 or 12 it works fine. This works on IDE attached drives but not a SATA attached drives. Fedora appears to use something called genisoimage instead of mkisofs. I can't get genisoimage to run on CentOS or RHEL.
Here's the code to setup the test files:
rm -f /tmp/BDtest/* mkdir /tmp/BDtest dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/BDtest/blank.iso bs=10M count=1 for NUM in {1..160}
I am currently in a project to set up an LTSP server with 10 thin clients. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic).
Installing server and booting clients are working fine. Now, according to the need, I have to restrict user session numbers and allow resuming previous user session.
I have achieved to do the first one, but still could not able to setup the second one. As per requirement, if some thin can have power failure, the same session should be restored back. I am confused here, if I need to focus on saving xsessions or saving gnome sessions. I am looking for a concrete solution as I am running out of time.
I have a Dell Inspiron Duo. Running Ubuntu 10.10 On my laptop, the enable/disable wireless and my F2 key share the same space and I need to press the Fn key to use F2 (I know supposed to go other way). But sometimes, they trade places. Where I that If I press the Fn key, it would enable/disable the wireless connections instead of doing F2.
What could be causing this and how do I stop it. This happens with not only my F2 key, but all the F functions. Also does anyone know how to reenable wireless after disabling it in Ubuntu. Pressing the enable/disable button does nothing after disabling and would require a boot to windows to reenable it.
The following message comes up when I boot up: Logging in user Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 0. When I press OK, the system completes the start up and everything looks normal. But when I try to connect to internet, I get the following message:
KNetworkManager cannot start because the installation is misconfigured. System DBUS policy does not allow it to provide user settings; contact your system administrator or distribution. KNetworkManager will not start automatically in future. If I reboot the system, I logg in successfully. So far the problem has appeared approximately upon every second time I boot up. Rebooting the system seems to take care of it.
Don't know what info is of interest. I'm using
Opensuse 11.2 KDE 4.4.2 (Factory) After upgrade from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 it worked fine for a week or so.
I do a clean install of slackware64 13.1 beta1 with KDE and switch default runlevel to 4 in /etc/inittab.
I try to login in kdm, I always come back to the login....
I try this with default runlevel 3 and an .xinitrc with "ck-launch-session startkde" .. works without problems, so I switch back to default runlevel 4, now i can login and only get the error "Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session..."
I have an Msi Wind u100+. Between the right hand Alt Gr and CTRL keys there is a key that looks like a menu. It seems to have the same function as a right mouse click. I want to know how to change this specific keys' function, such as use it to launch a terminal or another Super key. Ive tried Keyboard Shortcuts but its main right click function prevails. Also, searchng the forums and google only brings up how to change the entire keyboard layout to DVORAK or something and that's not what I want to do.
while writing my codes in g-edit, how do I know the in built library functions? Like in turbo C we can see the library functions? Is there any such features? How can I do that?
i have lost left and right click functions in mouse and touchpad. This only happens when in a window - as in running App. when on top or bottom bar L&R click function normally and on cairo doc too. but inside any APP window left click turns into a hand and grabs it and moves the whole window around. Right click pops up the menu to close it , move workstation Right or Left etcetc So it is like the whole window is now like the title bar area
i have to hold Shift+control down to have normal mouse/touchpad function
I was playing with the Sugar App and its an emulator an educational toy for kids
it tells you to hold shift+control down so you can move the mouse out of the sugar window
and to hold Shift+control+any key for keyboard function
god knows what keys i hit
get my mouse / touchpad functions back
i have already removed all the SUGAR apps via synaptic
What is the easiest way to use SSH over the internet with Putty? I have a Symbian phone with Putty installed and I was hoping I might be able to run some commands remotely on my 10.04 desktop with it. I've found a few tutorials but it seems like they deal with local networks and not over the internet.
I would like to have a linux server for Using SSH Tunnel with PuTTY ! May i can use ubuntu desktop edition for this ? or it is bether to use server edition ?
