Red Hat / Fedora :: Can't SSH Or Telnet Through Putty..
May 26, 2011
I am using RHEL 5.4 in vmware and its working fine I configured ssh in rhel and tried to login through Putty from host machine (windows xp sp3) am not able to login, so what should I do fo it frndz.
I am trying to setup a putty session to putty from one Ubuntu machine to another. I know how to setup to connect to the machine from Windows and I am using the same settings for the one I am trying on the Ubuntu machine but it fails to connect. It fails immediately so I believe that putty is not able to find ssh. Is there some configuring that I need to do.
I am trying to find the difference between the above two services. Both are under xinetd and can someone please explain the difference between them (is one more secure than the other one?)
We changed ip's the other day and now ssh is not working. SSH/Putty was working fine before the ip change. Everything else is working fine on the machine. The sshd_config file has not been touched at all since I've been working on the machine.
var/log/messages shows this: Code: bind to port 22 on 0.0.0.0 failed address already in use netstat -an shows that tcp is listening on 0.0.0.0:22 with no port conflicts.
I have a virtual dedicated server, running - Linux Red Hat Fidora core 6- Pentium 4, 3ghz
I'm attempting to use Putty to log in SSH, but I'm getting an error.
Saying the sever unexpectedly close network connection.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it. This is a new computer, that hasn't logged in using putty before. Also I'm on a home wireless network. It dosen't seem to be a firewall issue, the error message pops up, when the firewall is disabled.
And I just had Go Daddy do a reboot. Oh, and I think I might have entered my password incorrectly a few times, last night.
I remember the Go Daddy rep, saying that my IP address may be flagged, but that it would unfilter and unlock it self within an hour or so. It's been over 24 hrs.
Before the password issue, i was able to log in.. But i can't now.
Others can log in. So there unable to duplicate the problem.
I am not able to connect to server through putty, my collegue is able to connect to same server from his desktop through putty.
I am getting ssh session and after providing user id an password its stays still and no error message. firewall and se linux is disabled and also i checked tcpwrappers there is not restriction given.
I am trying to remotely access a linux machine to run Cadence from my laptop.I downloaded Putty and Xming/XLaunch.I run Putty, enable X11 forwarding, then sign into my host address.I am successfully able to access and navigate through my home directory, however once I try and run Cadence, I get the attached error.
when I try to connect via PuTTY from a windows machine I get " PuTTY Fatal error connection timed out. I try to do so via a router redirecting IPadr:86 to local adr:22 on the Linux machine.
I seems not to be a routing issue since the router is setup to redirect apparently correctly.
Well I have stopped iptables and selinux is disabled. The sshd deamon is running. I can logon with ssh locally "ssh webcamATlocal adr".
I have a fedora13 server running and for some reason cannot telnet using the hosts ip address. I have disabled the iptables firewall as well as selinux. I have a soap server app that needs to telnet to the fedora13 server. Strange thing is, I can telnet to localhost, just not to hostname or host ip address
Can you find my blind spot? I had PuTTY up & running untill I did a reinstall of Fedora13.I can ping 192.168.1.163 fine. SELinux is disabled. Firewall is default (SSH allowed on p22).I have just disabled the firewall with same result)
PuTTY reports: =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= PuTTY log 2010.07.20 16:23:52 =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Event Log: Writing new session log (SSH raw data mode) to file: C:UserswimDesktopputty.log
I am having issues with putty going inactive during a session and the job failing. I do not want to run nohup but would llike a korn shell script to keep putty alive.
I gannot connect to my Linux server using ssh and get Server refused to allocate pty message. Before it was working fine and today the problem appear, i don't know why this problem. Not that i'm new on linux system. my linux version is Linux 2.6.18-8.el5. I only found the same topic in this forum but not find solution, i try ssh with -T but still not working.
I am accessing a LINUX cluster machine via the internet from my PC. My PC is using Windows XP. To access the cluster I use VPN Client and PuTTY. I can access the cluster from my PC without any problems as long as only the command line and no graphical interface are involved. To allow for graphical interface I installed Xming and I enable X11 forwarding for PuTTY. However, the graphical interface/output of the program I am using (GrADS) does not appear. Instead I get the error message ?Segmentation fault?.Does anyone know what what I need to do in order to see graphical interface/output via PUTTY
Does anyone know of something similar to SecureCRT for linux. Id like a program that keeps a list of devices and when i click it, it would open the session in a tab.
I can access the files I need by using the telnet command, but I need to have access to the files in my local file system. Is it possible to mount a shared drive over telnet in the fstab file?
SSH is initially installed and activated. What are the steps in activating FTP and Telnet on Fedora 10. I know they are non-secure and probably shouldn't be used at all, but I need to know or at least pointed in the right direction.
I need to make a test on Fedora 8, with a Telnet... and seems NOT to beenabled. The package is installed, but if I have a look into /etc/xinedtd thereis no TELNET file ?Is there any changes into FEDORA 8 ? How to I configure Telner in Fedora 8 ?
i have to install app server on VM of Linux box. am able to connect Linux box via puTTY and Xmanager as root user. but am not able to connect as a normal user. in Xmanager i see network error. In puTTY console gets disappear
Sent an email by using telnet on port 25 from the terminal. Telnet states my message was sent but I never got it. Is it on the hard disk somewhere. Is there a log file? Where did my email go? Did it go into the ehter? I opened port 25 on my firewall through gnome by selecting 25/smpt checkbox as a trusted service.
I'm a computer technician and I'm interested in learning Linux. I did some research about the different distributions last night decided to try Fedora. I downloaded the latest version of it and installed it onto a brand new machine in my office. Is there a website out there that I can use as a guide for all of the Linux commands. I know that if I wanted to I could just learn my way around the gui, but I want to REALLY learn Linux. I also want to be able to telnet into the machine so that I can access it remotely. How can I set that up? I installed Fedora with all of the default settings and didn't change anything.
I'm running Telnet Server, VFTP, and VNC on a Fedora 14 box. The box's internal IP is 192.168.1.222 This machine is configured to live in the DMZ, The firewall is up on both the router and this box. I can remote in from home using our external IP. I can FTP. I can Telnet. All using our external IP. When i'm in the office, i can remote in using our external IP. I can FTP. I can Telnet. Again, all with the external IP. If i attempt to telnet 192.168.1.222 i get a connection refused. i can ping the 192.168 address
nmap tells me that all 1000 ports on 192.168.1.222 are closed nmap tells me that my expected ports are open on the external IP.
.... This is a relatively new conundrum as it "used to work", and only appears not to since our last reboot (power outage). I know i have to be missing something simple here, but i differ to the experts.
I have a sendmail daemon running on Linux, I can telnet @ port 25 from local shell, however if I telnet from a remote system @ port 25, it doesn't work. There is no firewall in between.
I've a Windows 7 host OS and I've installed Fedora 11 as a Virtual OS using Virtualbox.I want a friend of mine to connect to my Fedora server using telnet from internet. What I would like to know is how do i configure my Virtualbox to allow my friend to connect to my server. Also, is there any setting I need to change in Fedora to allow this?
I have just a one line script that runs telnet, and even thoughI've looked around I thought maybe someone could just tell me if there is a way to automatically login to the telnet server without having to type it in everytime. It's more of a hassle type of thing, but no matter what I've tried, I can't get anything to work.
