Slightly concerned as 10.04 is still suffering from the slow window restore, same as 9.10. Are we going to be looking at running another patched xserver-no-backfill (xorg-server) package, which was well out of date on 9.10? [URL]
View 7 RepliesHave to say I am loving the new Ubuntu (Lucid), however I have the same problem I do every time I upgrade and that is the maximize/minimize delay in Firefox or any open window for that matter. In the past I have installed a deb file called xserver-nobackfill and it fixes the problem, but I cannot find one for Lucid. I try an older version and it tells me a newer version is already installed. I know Lucid just came out yesterday, but I wondered if someone knew where to look, or something to try

No heavy CPU usage when restoring from minimized and a general performance boost were the results of that use.But recently made an upgrade and realized that xserver-xorg-core package (check it from synaptic manager) has been upgraded to a jaunty-proposed version and the problems started to appear again!So using Synaptic I selected this package and hit CTRL-E key in order to choose the nobackfill version. This way things got back to normal!

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded the motherboard/processor on my computer (as in quadrupled the processor and octupled the ram). The new board has a built in GPU (intel) and from searching the forums, I think this is part of the problem. Every time I boot up the computer, I need to open the Compiz icon and use it to reload the window manager before I see any title bars, borders, etc. 've tried the .bashrc hack (metacity --replace), but that doesn't do anything. In fact, whenever I open the terminal, I need to have two tabs open in order to use it, and when I close it all the borders go away again (even when I haven't done anything). Also, the onboard sound card (intel) doesn't work, but that's another task (I at least have a compatible card for that).

Also when i place my mouse on the top right of the screen it brings it to a choosing window type mode where you can pick which window you would like to open, is it possible to get this on the top left of the screen instead? Lastly when I use Kdebluetooth4 to send a file to my computer where does that file save to?

This means that I get normal open window animation on these pull-down menus instead of the menu-theme. Inside the CompizConfig you can specify exactly which window types the different animations apply to, and you can use "grab" to probe your window for this info. My problem is that I can't "grab" the info for the pull-down, since it leaves "grab" mode once I try to open the menu (and grabs the info for the parent window instead of the menu). How do I get to know the window properties of the pull-downs, so that I can map them to the relevant window animation theme?

i typed down this commands to download the compiz unsupported plugins
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:compiz/ppa

but after all i got some new plugins(they are few only) and every thing is set to false
and now all my desktop is as *! can't even do any thing
i can't work with any GUI because of this
how to download and install all compiz plugins the supported and unsupported one's with command line too
to back-up and eventually restore compiz settings, is it enough to back-up and restore the .compiz directory in $HOME? Reason is that the setting in my classic gnome set-up are different and partially conflict with the unity settings. Since I want to be able to run both environment (to give Unity a chance) I'd like to be able to switch settings easily.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am dual booting natty and linux mint debian edition. I have noticed in LMDE compiz is far, far, far, far smoother. In natty scrolling, resizing, and animations are all noticeably laggier. In LMDE I can use the normal resize with no problem, in natty its so laggy I need to use rectangle or stretch. Animations are also glitchy (fade animations have white flicker) In lmde there are no visual hiccups.
I am using the same driver and kernel in LMDE, the major difference is LMDE has a much older compiz (0.8.4, before the compiz++ rewrite I believe.) Does anyone know why the newer compiz in natty is so much slower? Does anyone else expereince this? my video card is an hd2600 using the cat 11.4 driver, but I experience these same issues with the oss driver.
Has this feature been removed from the version of Compiz that comes with 10.04?I was running 9.10 for a few months and I configured a feature for zooming out windows into a kind of preview mode.I remember setting up a key combo and when I clicked on any window and pressed the combo, it would cycle between 2 preview sizes of around 25% and 10% and then back to it's normal size.I could drag a zoomed-out window around the desktop but obviously it would not be usable until it was restored to normal size.
The window contents would still update though and it was a great way of keeping an eye on many windows at once.I have looked at every single setting in CompizConfig Settings Manager but it's nowhere to be found and I really miss it!
I couldn't find a section for visual customization. Is it possible to make it so that windows not being used have a certain opacity, and windows being used have another? Also, how can you change the opacity of menus? I used to be able to do this, but it seems I've forgotten.

suppose an Ubuntu or Linux user is using GNOME and he/she has opened too many folders , suddenly he/she has to shutdown/ switch off machine due to power failure or some other unexpected reasons , now when he/she reboots the machine he/she can't remember the folders he/she had opened earlier so there should be a window restore feature for nautilus in Ubuntu or Linux in general
Ubuntu or Linux should implement the same window restore feature in nautilus similar to the one existing in Mozilla firefox

Just upgraded to 11.04 and compiz runs like absolute dogshit.I'm using ATI Proprietary drivers which worked amazingly before the upgrade.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was hoping someone could tell me how to turn off the basic windows effects in compiz but keep it turned on so I can use something like Docky.
The reason is because nautilus takes a few painful seconds to open up with the effects turned on and some times I end up clicking a folder etc a second time thinking it hasn't opened.
(This started after I upgraded from Ubuntu 8 ) Everytime I enable desktop effects (system -> preferences -> appearance) compiz replaces the pretty New Wave window border with the ugly Emerald glass window border (custom border) that I used on Ubuntu 8.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded from 10.04 -> 10.10 and my 'scale' plugin is not working properly in compiz (the rest works well).I do have the effect working with "super+a, super+w" , but "edge" does not work.I can modify values via gconf, I have: "initiate_all_edge" set to "BottomLeft" but this doesnt respond.The weirdest thing is that the compiz scale options part instead of giving me 4 tabs of options -> gives this.(image below) i tried reinstalling a few times & purge compiz + install back, but result remained the same.

Before, I could move windows between screens by pressen "Strg-Alt-Enter" (a shortcut I configured myself). Now that does not work anymore.
I remember configuring this shortcut somewhere in ccsm, but now I can not find it anymore.
I'm running Compiz with the Classic desktop in Ubuntu 11.04. I've noticed that doing the slightest thing will make the window decorations disappear...enabling desktop cube, clicking the menu icon in the titlebar, whatever. I'm running two GTX 570s (not in SLI), could this be an nvidia driver problem or something else?

(x86-64) What I did:installed my nvidia driver, enabled secondary screen (twinview) Installed some extra compiz plugins using aptitude. Tried to enable the desktop cube, and with that automatically disabling the desktop cube. And bang, no more window frames.. I tried with GTK window decorator and with emerald. It doesn't make any difference. Now I am running meta-city and emerald without any desktop effects.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently done a clean install of Lucid Lynx and set everything up the way I had it in Jaunty (skipped Karmic). However, I am now having problems with the Compiz Cube and Firefox 3.6.
Whenever I rotate my workspace that contains a Firefox window that is active, the animation is very jerky and slow. It is fine if Firefox is a background window. This was never a problem in Jaunty with Firefox 3.0.
Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how I might be able to fix it? I have tried disabling all addons in Firefox.
My PC: Core 2 Duo E7400, Geforce 7010 (onboard), 2GB RAM
UPDATE: starting Firefox in Safe Mode seems to help a little. Not sure why though...
I'm upgrade my Compiz to 0.8.6.. but it turn run extremely slow on my system (11.2 Gnome)and Intel GPU. Got it from here: Index of /repositories/X11:/Compiz/openSUSE_11.2
Now I'm downgrading to 0.8.4.. Question is, do really I need to upgrade, because I read that theres no new features only bugs fix and speed improvement.
