What program should I use to access my wireless network in KDE Trinity? I'm used to using KNetworkmanager (KDE frontend for network-manager), but apparently, KNetworkmanager doesn't work in Trinity. What's the next best thing?

I've been trying to set up my wireless connection since. After 2-ish hours of searchingupport forums, I managed to use network manager to connect to my home wireless network via WEP, I will say now that I've had lots of trouble.
I've finally been able to connect to my network, to a point. The NetworkManager in openSUSE says that the wireless connection is active. I can verify this by saying that on the other conputers in my house (winXP, win7, and Ubuntu v9) I have been able to ping this openSUSE computer and my router recognizes it as part of the network. Here is where the problem arises: I cannot access the internet from the openSUSE machine, with a domain name or by trying to type in an ip address, and I cannot ping other computers on my network with it.
I don't know what I did but I can't connect to the network any longer. KNetworkManager finds it but I can't connect. It stops at waiting for authorization. I've been connected before and it still works in xubuntu but something happened here. Here is what /var/log/messages/ says

Today I changed my home router's security setting from WPA to WPA2, and my openSUSE 11.4 Tumbleweed system's network stopped working.It is very strange, because it can connect to the wireless no problem and it gets ip address and everything, but I cannot access any websites. I tried to revert the router setting back to WPA, but still the same.Funny thing is I can actually open the router admin page.
Even I plugged the wired lan cable to my laptop, but still the same. It connects, but no internet.Where should I look? My the other laptop with openSUSE 11.4 connects to the same router without any problem.
I got a development machine with Apache installed. Everything was configured correctly, machine was running perfectly for some time, but today, suddenly I lost connection to my Wireless network.
Now I simply...can't access it. All details are correct, I even turned off MAC Addresses validation to make sure it's not my AP configuration fault. Nothing helped.
Any ideas what could happen? I did not update any libraries/packages. Just got disconnected from my network and cannot access it anymore.
To give more informations: I'm using Broadcom wireless device and b43 driver but I don't think this can be an error. Logs tell me nothing.
I just installed Opensuse 11.2 dual-booting with Windows 7 on a laptop. I have the wireless set up and connected, but I can't seem to be able to connect to any websites or ping Google, etc.I'm kind of a Linux newbie, so I'd like to get some advise as to what I can check to get it working? (Windows 7 on the same machine is able to connect - I'm using it now)

So I finally successfully installed Ubuntu 10.10, but I can't access my home wireless network. I dual booted with Windows 7, and it detects my local wireless network, asks for the key and connects correctly. In Ubuntu, I have to plug in an ethernet cable to access the internet (like I am now). Ubuntu doesn't detect the network, and I tried "Create New Wireless Network..." up the top right, but it doesn't connect.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new install of 10.04 on a Dell laptop (about a week). Everything was running well, connecting wirelessly to the interneet through my home router (WPA/WPA2). Today, for some reason, I lost my connection to the internet. The network manager tells me I'm connected to my router, but all the lines on the wifi indicator are gray and there is no internet access. I reinstalled the 2 sets of packets for my BCN4312 (bcmwl-kernel-source and b43-fwcutter ), but no change.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two wireless access points in my home network. A Linksys upstairs and a Watchguard Firebox downstairs. The Firebox acts as the gateway for my network to the internet (well, the ISP's router anyway). I invariably use my Hardy Heron installed HP laptop downstairs, less than 10ft from the Firebox. The signal bar for the Firebox shows three bars, the linksys just one. So, why the heck does my Ubuntu insist on connecting to the Linksys everytime?! I can manually switch it afterward but still, it's annoying.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup a wireless AP with my old asus eeepc, so it can act as a repeater to connect my android device on the other end of the apartment. I've already created the Wireless Access Point using hostapd. It took very little configuring, just changed from mode 'a' to 'g' and changed the channel from 60 to 1 and It was all set. Next I setup a dhcp server. Also simple enough using yast.
Up to this point, I was able to connect my android device to the newly created wireless network. However It doesn't have internet access. I guess I have to configure iptables for this, but I find it incredibly confusing! Here are a few specs to help with any examples: The laptop is connected to the internet through eth0 with IP 192.168.2.120 Hostapd is using wlan0, and I'm pretty sure it created mon.wlan0 So, to sum up, when I connect my android device to the network I can, for instance, see what ever pages apache is currently serving on the laptop, but can't access the internet.
I'm unable to get into my university's WLAN network. LAN works just fine, but sometimes it's quite convenient to be able to access stuff wirelessly. It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, because if I configure my computer according to our computer department's instructions it works fine with Ubuntu (currently I carry around a stick to get into the Internet when I really need it and don't have a cable). The drivers are installed, I can get into normal private networks, but have never managed to get into the university network except for with Ubuntu.
The university instructions tell me to use the following settings:
Security: WPA Enterprise
Authentification: TTLS
Inner Authentification: PAP
Username: My username
Password: Password
CA Certificate: Deutsche_Telekom_Root_CA_2.pem
In the KDE instructions, they tell you to write "anonymous" into the anonymous identity field, but in the GNOME instructions it says to leave it blank. In Ubuntu, I leave it blank and it works.
I've got the recommended settings, which also work in GNOME.
I'd ask the tech support here, but I am the tech support We've got it working with other systems, like I said, but not with SUSE, and I'm a SUSE fan.
I have had a heck of a time trying to get my laptop running ubuntu to connect to my home network. I have managed to get it to work at my university which would seemingly be more difficult than getting it to work at home, so I know for a fact it isn't a hardware or driver issue. If I try to connect via ethernet cable from my router, it detects that I connected the cable but says "disconnected" and never lets me connect. If I SKIP the router and go from my modem directly to my laptop via ethernet cable it works great.
Using the wireless network tool I can see all of the wireless connections in my area. When I go to connect to my network it prompts me for the WEP key and when I enter it and hit connect it just keeps cycling and eventually times out and finally again prompts me for my WEP key. I know this network works as it works just fine on my Windows 7 partition. Another interesting note - both my wireless and ethernet connections both worked flawlessly and stoopid easily on the live cd but don't after the full install.
If I manually enter in the information for my wireless through IPv4 settings and enter in the Address,Netmask and gateway I can connect to my network - but then I have no active internet connection. Same deal with my wired connection. Is this because choosing this manual method grays out the DHCP?
I am trying to connect to the college campus wifi network, but having difficulties in Linux.I am dual-booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10, and I use Google Chrome web browser on both. When I boot into Windows, my laptop connects to the network (as I can see from the taskbar icon) and I can (and currently am) connect in Chrome.However, in Ubuntu, it connects (or so the icon indicates) but Chrome doesn't load any pages.The campus network is unsecured, but once you open the browser, you are prompted with a log-in page (student ID and password) to actually connect.Here is my output for iwconfig:

I have had this configuration at home for years, but I just changed my line provider and I cannot get it to work.
I have a desktop machine with two ethernet interfaces, eth0 and eth1. Etho is connected to the cable modem and that seems to be working fine - well, I'm posting here, right? Eth1 is connected to a Linksys WAP54G wireless access point. I have eth1 set to 192.168.1.240 and the AP set to 192.168.1.245 (the default). The desktop runs CentOS and I have dhcpd running, and I have focused on the dhcpd.conf file, which I have changed many times. Here is the latest incarnation:

Objective is simply to be able to allow wireless clients access to my network based on their MAC address (I have about 10 WAPs around the country which I need to be able to manage user access centrally). Not interested in LDAP or dishing out keys/certificates etc.
I have been trying to follow the guide here. Sounds like it's exactly what I need but I'm not sure about a few things.
1) For each of the conf files am I supposed to be replacing everything currently existing in the respective file with what is suggested?
2) "raddb/modules/file" does not exist, so I assume I should use "raddb/modules/files"?
3) If I uncomment the line:

I am unable to access wireless network from my notebook. My configuration is Dell i5, 4GB RAM and 1397 W-LAN and I have F13. I can still access Internet through Ethernet using a LAN cable but the network monitor doesn't show list of Wireless networks which my room mate's windows 7 machine easily detects.

I have installed Suse 11.4 from the Gnome liveCD, and I "can" access my home network when it is unsecured, however, I can't access it when WEP is turned on. Now, I know that WEP is insecure but there are devices on the network that only supports WEP so the router settings can't be changed. Also just for testing purposes i have tried the WPA2 encryption method to no avail (dmesg reports that the connection timed out). The only encryption method that looks promising is the open-wep encryption. When trying to connect to the network (with open-wep turned on) I have performed a bit of checking to see what is going on, now I don't know much about in-depth linux and stuff but, below are the outputs from lsusb, dmesg, iwconfig, and ifconfig.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can connect to my school's wireless network using the standard network manager, but often (not always) it repeatedly disconnects and reconnects every few minutes. Occasionally it also prompts me for the security information again (even after it previously connected successfully).
By running iwconfig when it's on the fritz, I can see that it's often switching access points for the network - which is what I think is causing the problem. It disconnects and reconnects even when the signal strength for the current AP is fine, and it will often switch to an AP with a weaker signal strength.

But I am having an odd issue with the theming of various pop up appearing as KDE 4 rather than as Trinity. Can I uninstall KDE 4 without removing anything from Trinity? Can I isolate the two environments better so I can avoid removal of kDE4?

View 6 Replies View RelatedHas anyone successfully installed Fedora Core 11 on a system with a Tyan Trinity KT-400 S2495 motherboard? I have two systems with this motherboard. I tried to install FC11 from the live CD. Both systems have AGP video cards based on the Nvidia GForce-2, although the cards are of different brands. On one system, FC11 installed, but after the machine is booted and I log-in, it runs slower and slower until it is effectively frozen after about fifteen minutes. Somtimes a "Kernel Failure" window will pop up. A momentary press of the power butting will bring up a shutdown window and shut the machine down after a wait of 60 seconds.) By doing several reboots, I did manage to update the installation. (My complements to the developers on the fact that the package download will pick up where it left off).
However it still freezes. On the other system, when the Live Cd has booted, the keyboard and mouse don't work, so I can't do the installation. I tried a different keyboard and mouse, tried rebooting several times. When I boot the machine from SystemRescueCd (kernel 2.3.29) the keyboard works in the text mode. I used the "wizard" command to try various graphical modes. In the default Xorg graphical interface, the keyboard works but the mouse doesn't. In the "Vesa" graphical interface, neither the keyboard nor the mouse work. I tried the Ubuntu 8.04 live CD and the keyboard and mouse don't work. I tried an FC 8 install Cd, the keyboard works in the installation screens but the mouse doesn't. I replaced the Nvidia AGP card with a Voodoo 3dFx PCI video card. The system won't finish posting. It hangs on the second screen. This system formerly ran Windows 2000 OK and before that it ran Window 98. But perhaps it's now defective?
I installed Kubuntu 10.10 Trinity, ran the updates, installed a number of programs, and somewhere along the line all the device icons disappeared from the desktop. I didn't notice exactly when it happened because I couldn't see the desktop most of the time. They're all still checked in Configure Desktop / Behavior / Device Icons; I can check or uncheck whatever I want there, but it has no effect. How I can get them back?
