Ubuntu :: Connect-Debounce Failed Port Y Disabled

Feb 21, 2010

I went to shut down a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, and about halfway through the little yellow/orange bar the screen went black and it said:
"xxx.xxxxxx hub 2.0: 1.0 connect-debounce failed port y disabled" (xxx.xxxxxx being a different number string each time, and y being a port number)

It gives me that message for 3, sometimes 4, ports--3 times (port 2, port 3, port 1, port 2, port 3, port 1, etc.). Once I got that while starting up. Near the end of that colored bar, it gave me the black screen, and then this big long list of stuff it was checking. When it got to starting Bluetooth, it started that connect-debounce thing for all the ports. Then there was some other stuff that disappeared faster than I could write it down. However, Ubuntu did a system check the next day, and that start up issue disappeared--at start up and shut down. A couple of days ago, it started the connect-debounce thing on shutdown again. Ubunutu did a system check, but it did not fix the shut down issue or get the USB mouse/items to work.

I post the below output.

OpenSUSE Network :: KNetwork Manager And Ethernet Port Disabled - Can't Connect

Oct 28, 2010

I did a fresh install of OpenSuSE 11.3 KDE 64-bit on my new laptop. Worked like a charm. But I brought it with me to work without connecting it to a wi-fi and now the network manager doesn't want to start when I'm back in range of my home connection. Also, whenever I try to launch KNetworkManager, it won't load up a window and I still can't connect. This is even disabling the Ethernet port also.

Ubuntu Networking :: Error - Remote Port Forwarding Failed For Listen Port 5500

Aug 7, 2010

When I use the following command:

ssh user@ssh_server -L 5500:localhost:5500 -p 22

everything works fine. I can log in, and local port forwarding is done. Otherwise when I use the command:

ssh user@ssh_server -R 5500:localhost:5500 -p 22

I get an error "remote port forwarding failed for listen port 5500". However when I try remote port forwarding in WinXP by use of putty there is no problem...

General :: USB Port Nn Disabled By Hub (EMI?), Re-enabling

Oct 31, 2010

getting this occasionally in dmesg USB port nn disabled by hub (EMI?),re-enabling and I would like to know: What does the message mean, exactly? What is the actual hardware error code from the USB subsystem? Under what conditions would the root hub disable the port?Is it related to the USB power or the USB data lines? If it's power, what aspects of the USB power does the root hub monitor? Voltage out of limits? Current spike? Ground bounce? Can this power monitoring feature be turned off in the Linux driver settings?

Ubuntu Servers :: Unable To Connect To System Bus: Failed To Connect To Socket

May 29, 2010

I tried to install vsftpd on my server and while the installation went fine, I can't run

Code:
restart vsftpd
As I the get error
Code:

restart: Unable to connect to system bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory Though I'm able to restart the service with

sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd restart with a warning telling me to use the service utility. Not only that, but despite the port being open it won't allow me to log in, it just hangs, and I have local users enabled (I've used the default .conf file). Does dbus not come installed in 10.04, and if I did install it would it make a difference for restarting the service? Are there further steps needed not available in the tutorial on the Ubuntu Server Guide for 10.04 to enabling local user authentication? -edit- Figured it out, dbus wasn't installed, vsftpd is working fine now.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Network Is Visible But Disabled - How To Connect

Jul 23, 2010

I have a weird problem that I can't find the answer for in the forums or docs. I can see the wireless network in Network Manager, but it is grayed-out and inaccessible. Other wireless networks are white and I can click on them and connect to them (or could if I knew the password).

My work computer, an IBM ThinkPad T43 running Win 7, connects.
My personal computer, a Dell Latitude C640 running Ubuntu 10.04, sees the network as grayed-out and therefore I have no option to connect to it.

I have tried the following:Checked for hardware drivers - the system says "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system"
Verified that the network security settings are the same on both my work and personal computers: WPA2-Personal
Why can I see the network but it is disabled/grayed-out?

Fedora Networking :: SSID Broadcast Disabled - Cannot Connect To Wireless Network

May 6, 2010

I have just installed FC12 on my machine - and gone Windows free for the first time ever. Now I do use various flavours of Linux on a daily basis but not from an installation/sys admin point of view so my questions here may seem a little basic but pleas eindulge me if you will!

Now, my network connection works perfectly well under the following scenarios.

1) FC12, wired to router
2) FC12, wireless, SSID broadcast enabled
3) Ubuntu (laptop), wireless, SSID broadcast DISABLED

The only scenario that does not work is FC12, wireless with SSID broadcast disabled.

I can only assume that it is an issue with my USB modem (a linksys WUSB54GS) since the same set-up works fine from my laptop running Ubuntu with an internal wireless card.

Now, I know from reading the forums that it's pretty easy to get around a disabled SSID broadcast but this is an itch I just have to scratch....what the hell is causing this problem?

nm-tool ouput is as follows:

I have tried using wpa_supplicant but I am not sure which driver I am using here - is it ndiswrapper per chance?

(Driver: rndis_wlan)

How I can connect once again to my wireless router with SSID broadcast turned off.

Ubuntu :: Stop Mouse Clicks Being Repeated - Minimum Delay For Double Click / Debounce Setting?

Jul 7, 2010

When I click once with my bluetooth mouse (Logitech M550b), about one time in three ubuntu receives two clicks.I'm not sure if this is a problem with the mouse or a bug in the OS, but even if it is a problem with the mouse these two clicks arrive at the same time, way too quickly to be a genuine double click.I have searched everywhere (including all the options in gconf-editor) and cannot find where the debounce delay is set for mice. Debounce should ensure that two clicks occurring in rapid succession are interpreted as a single click and thereby solve my problem.

The mouse settings window and gconf-editor both have a setting for 'maximum double click delay', but nothing for 'minimum double click delay' (AKA debounce delay). Does anyone know how I can change the setting so that two simultaneous clicks from the same mouse will be interpreted as a single click?Alternatively, does anyone know of an ubuntu bug which might be causing a single click to be interpreted as two simultaneous clicks? I suspect that the mouse is not the source of problem but have not had a chance to test it on another machine to confirm.I've searched the forum history and found lots of other people having the same problem of phantom double clicks, but nobody has found a solution in any of the previous threads.

Ubuntu Networking :: Cant VNC Over SSH - Error: Connect_to 123.243.**.** Port 5900: Failed

Feb 4, 2010

I have successfully connected to my ubuntu server from XP using VNC over SSH from within my internal network. But when I try from an external network I can SSH but VNC times out. Using netstat I see vino server listening on 5900. Using ps -ef I see vnc and vino-server and vino. In auth.log I see :

Feb 4 17:07:25 DellD600 sshd[8754]: error: connect_to 123.243.**.** port 5900: failed.
Feb 4 17:11:14 DellD600 sshd[8754]: error: connect_to 123.243.**.** port 5900: failed.

These entries coincide with when vnc times out, after a minute or so. I have tried realVNC and TightVNC with similar results. Im connecting specifying localhost in VNC and port 5900 in and out in putty - same as I do when connecting locally. The error messages dont give me a lot to go on. Im assuming the problem must be on the ubuntu server itself since Im getting in through SSH and hitting the logs ?

CentOS 5 :: Unable To Connect Through Ssh Port 22?

Jun 3, 2010

My config :
Dell PowerEdge 2900III
16Gb RAM
2 arrays RAID1 (2*(2*500Gb))
CentOS5.5
VMWare 2.0.2 (with workaround of downgrade glibc to CentOS5.3)

Since the upgrade from CentOS5.4 to CentOS5.5, it seems the sshd is crashing every other day.I can access to the VMWare webserver, but no way to connect through ssh port 22.The only "workaround" is a hard reboot of the server, and with luck, I can access to the server through ssh.I checked /var/log/secure, it looks like time to time when the server start, it does not start the sshd service, there is no entry at all for the time the server started up. For instance today, the server has been started early this morning, but the first entry was found after a hard reboot this evening : Jun 3 18:19:14 hercules sshd[3617]: Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 22.
