I'm using Fedora 12 on a Virtual Machine (VM Player).
How do I configure the display monitor to set 256 Colors in Linux Fedora?
I just installed fedora 12. during the installation, i used a different monitor (as when i used the one that i want to use with the system, not all of the page displayed - so i could not click on the buttons) . now it only works with the display that i temporarily connected.
i want to use the system with a sony tv via hdmi. the system dual boots, and the tv works with windows 7 (at 1280*720, 60Hz, "generic PnP monitor").
when i try to boot fedora with the TV as the display, the TV is showing stuff right up until the login screen appears (X starts, I guess). then the TV loses the input.
I can SSH into the system with the TV connected, or use it normally with a temporary monitor. I have no experience of successfully configuring HAL or X. how should I go about it?
Looking for a newb-type step by step process for configuring ubuntu to 1) recognize both the onboard video card as well as the PCI graphics card and 2) how to set up three displays with separate desktops (able to mouse-over from screen to screen). So far the 20+ hours searching online has yielded excessively complex instructions, inappropriate instructions, or ancient posts. Is this config even possible? Again, I am learning so the instructions need to be very deliberate. PNY GeForce FX 5200 PCI 256 MB 2 Port VGA + S-Video Graphics Card VCGFX522PEB and an onboard display apdapter (Intel P4 Chipset 845GV).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there was a way to invert screen colors on fedora 15. I came across compiz-fusion but it is in conflict with Gnome3 and the whole display crashes. All i am looking for is to invert colors.

I've just installed OpenSUSE 11.2 on a new machine. Because I was still using another machine as my main box while building the new one, the monitor attached when it was installed has a resolution of 1280x1024 @ 77Hz. I've now moved it to be my main machine and the monitor is a widescreen 1680x1050 @ 60Hz model. When I boot it normally the screen fails to come up - even GDM doesn't show. If I boot in failsafe mode the system comes up fine, but in 1280x1024 mode. The 'Configure display settings' icon shows the monitor as 'Unknown'. Couple of things I tried:
1) Switched to runlevel 2 and logged in as root. Ran Xorg -configure and looked at the xorg.conf.new that was installed, but it just had generic info for the monitor:
[code]....
2) While still in runlevel 2 and logged in as root I did a startx. This brought up the X display in 1680x1050 ok, and clicking on the 'Configure display settings' icon showed it had correctly identified my monitor and had set the size and frequency correctly.
3) Given the results of (2), I then tried logging in as myself in runlevel 2, did startx again, but this time the display failed to come up again.
I am new to this forum. I am a both rhel5 and fedora user.I can not configure my Samsung syncmaster 632nw monitor to display full screen at 1360X768.There is huge blank space on left and right portion of the monitor. The maximun resolution is 1024*768 and minimum is 640*480.
I have tried many times to solve it using xorg.conf but still unable to do it.
Here is xorg.conf's content :
I am facing problem with the fresh installation of Fedora 11. (I have moved from Fedora 9). When I try to view videos on ..... or use the Cheese Webcam Booth, I get blurred lines on the screen and I am unable to see any video or pic.
Also I noticed that the when i go to System > Preferences>Display, it shows me UNKOWN MONIOR.
However, if I got to System>Administration>Display and enter the su password, it shows me correct monitor and the graphics driver.
I am not sure if my original is related to the Unknown Monitor.
I also tried to install Nvidia driver but it crashed the xserver and I had remove the driver.
My Monitor is LG 700E and Graphics card is from intel. as I am not able watch any video.
I have a xterm which can have 256 colors. How can I configure the prompt colors and ls output colors to take advantages of the 256 color values?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to Linux (Ubuntu 10.4 LTS on a Thinkpad T40), now just two days, and had everything working nicely. But since I wanted a better higher resolution I tried to set the monitor resolution to a higher value. After selecting a higher resolution first the screen went black and now it has a white background and is steady but has flickering areas. The system is still working. How can I go back to the resolution that was working?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have this weird problem; When I change the monitor preferences in the 'System > Preferences > Monitors' dialog, the colors and fonts of much of the text on the screen get messed up. The issue is best seen in the attached figure. All applications seems to run as normal, and there is no other trouble than the visual.
It happens in the moment i hit apply. It happens every single time. The desired changes is applied as they should. To turn my PC back to normal I have to restart it, and then it will start again with the new settings without any problems at all.
The problem occurred for the first time yesterday. I think it may have to do with some updates (advised updates through Update Manager) I have done lately (I tend to mindlessly install most updates). Other than that I have no idea what is causing the problem.
Have anybody experienced a similar problem? Does anybody have a clue of what is causing it, and what I can do to solve the problem? PS: I am running Ubuntu 10.10 32bit on a 5 year old Dell Inspiron 630m.
I just installed Xubuntu 9.10 on my iMac and it works perfectly...except for one thing. It is stuck in 8 or 16 bit color and I can't find a way to make it millions of colors. I've tried using the xorg.config...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have CentOS 5.5 installed and I'm having the problem of no display, though everything is working perfectly besides that. When I don't use the mouse for a while, the monitor flashes green, but then when I do finally move the mouse, the monitor turns solid green, just that no display is seen. How the situation came about is as follows. The display was working perfectly. I was trying to fix a friend's machine, so I unplugged the VGA cable from the back of the monitor (so that I can hook up the monitor to my friend's machine). Afterwards, when I re-plugged in the VGA cable from my linux machine to the monitor, I had no display.
Also, note that the machine is working perfectly. When I reboot, it boots up completely (I don't need to login as I turned this off) so I can ssh into it from another machine on my network. Another interesting point is that this linux machine is currently using a cheap graphics card and this is what the VGA cable is attached to on the back of the tower. However, the motherboard does have built-in graphics card, and I also tried hooking up the VGA cable to that... still no display. I should also mention that I tried testing the monitor by hooking it up to a laptop as an external monitor and it worked nicely. So the monitor is, in fact, working.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm a new Fedora/Linux user and I've just setup my first laptop to use Fedora 14. However, I've come across an issue and I've done a lot of searching on various forums etc and basically I'm going around in circles. I've had my PC hang already after I tried to create a xorg.conf file. I have since removed the changes I made.
I have a a SIS 771/671 PCIE VIA Display Adapter (rev 10). I got this info via the lspci command. The problem I have is that it's not letting me select a resolution above 1024 * 768. I know it has higher resolutions as when it was a Windows XP and Vista PC I had higher resolutions. There has to be an easier way to set a screen resolution that manually editing cryptic files and knowing refresh rates etc.
I installed Karmic on an older PC I had laying around, and the only trouble I am having is with screen resolution. It uses an old ATI chipset (onboard) for video, and it doesn't seem to do EDID correctly, so I can't display anything higher than 800x600. I have tried creating an xorg.conf, but it's still not working. How can I tell Xorg to ignore the fact it can't detect a widescreen monitor and display something larger than 800x600? I noticed the log says the sync's are out of range, but I am not sure how to fix it.
Here is my current xorg.conf.
Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "X.org Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to configure Internet connection in my linux os but don't know how to do it. In Windows XP the method is quite simple but in linux I know know what to do about, It has been very challenging for me to do it but don't knw how ot do it.This file I have to type at run "RASPPPOE.inf" to get list of available Internet providers.
In windows I do it in this way-
1.First go to My network places ->View network connection->Local area network->Properties->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)->Install->protocol->Microsoft TCP/IP version 6(select)->Have disk->(then browse to get RASPPPOE.inf file from PPPOE folder)->click OK->select PPP over Ethernet protocol->Click OK->>continue anyway(two times if asked)-> Apply->OK.
2.Then got to run ->Type raspppoe (Enter)->one window will open->select the LAN card (where internet cable is connected)->Click on Query available services->Select Internet provider name and->Click on Create dial up connection.-> Then dial up will be created on Desktop where I enter my username and password to start internet.
I tried troubleshooting this on the Ubuntu forums, but my thread went nowhere, so here I am! I'm REALLY hoping someone can help, because this is immensely frustrating.I just moved to a new house, with a new ISP. All of a sudden, all the machines running Ubuntu (there are 4 of them on my network) are having trouble rendering websites properly. Some websites are perfectly fine; some render with things missing (e.g., no photos or no CSS); some render as text-only; and some won't display at all - I get a "server not found" error. If I boot into Windows on any of these machines, there's no problem. To complicate matters more: Sometimes the "server not found" sites will decide to connect, then they'll fail again. This has been changing day to day (sometimes even hour to hour). Anything within the google.com domain is a good example of this. Two of the affected machines are desktops (one running headless as a server), and two are laptops. All four are running Ubuntu, but they're all running different kernels. The ONLY things these machines have in common is that they're running Ubuntu, and they're all connecting to the internet wirelessly.
Because things work properly in Windows without exception, and because (at least on the laptops) things work fine in Ubuntu on any other internet connection, I can rule out wireless network adapters. I have tried using two different wireless routers - no change. I have tried using 4 different web browsers - no change. I have tried plugging a laptop directly into the incoming connection, bypassing the router entirely - no change. I have tried purging and reinstalling Flash on one of the laptops - no change. I have tried to connect to affected websites using their IP addresses to rule out DNS issues - no change. This one has me completely stumped. The only thing I can think is that this is something to do with my ISP, but I can't imagine what it would be. I called the guy who runs the ISP (it's a local outfit run by one or two guys, as I'm living in the middle of nowhere), and he said there's nothing he's aware of at the ISP level that would be causing a problem like this.
I want to configure my SUSE and Ubuntu distros for MP3, Flash, and MPEG support. What plugin should i download and install.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI successfully installed linux mint 9 and at the same time update the system. Now that everything is running, I returned the pc to the owner, but when I power it on, no display. You can see the post but no display after that. And 1 more, I press the shift while loading grub2, nope nothing happens. And also tried booting the CD installer, same results.
I installed the system using an old 15" CRT monitor and the owner had a AOC 1619sw LCD monitor. I found this thread from ubuntu which I think was the same problem as mine, [ubuntu] Help! No display/keyboard on boot with differnet monitor - Ubuntu Forums, but no solutions yet.
I recently tried to configure a second monitor on 10.4. Since then I have not been able to log into the desktop. I get the video card at boot, then the ubuntu splash screen and then nothing!
How do I correct this? The video card is nvidea and I guess the configuration file is corrupt but I can see no way to reset/install this.
